Parents Tattoo Their Legs With Daughter’s Birthmark So She Won’t Feel Different
547Kviews
Large and obvious birthmarks can make school life hard for children, but a couple of caring parents in the UK have found a controversial way to combat this issue. Tanya and Adam Phillips got huge tattoos stretching up their right legs to match the birthmark that their 18-month-old daughter, Honey-Rae, has on her leg.
Read on to get more of the story, and then let us know what you think about their decision in the comments!

“Although in our eyes she was perfect, I knew people would cruelly point and stare at her”
“I was stood at a check out till, when I saw an old couple whispering and staring at Honey-Rae’s leg. I was distraught. It was first time I had taken her out without covering her up and it confirmed all my worries and fears. People are cruel without even realising”
“We had talked about having duplicate tattoos done for a little while but that day my mind was made up”
“When the swelling went down, I showed Honey-Rae, and she gently touched it and smiled as she said ‘Match,’ pointing to her own leg. If I’d have needed any reassurance that I’d made the right decision that was it”

I would do everything for my girls too, so a big like!
I think this is showing the parents true love to their child! It shows their are different people but also the fact that she is not alone!
I have a large port wine covering half my chin. People could not resist pointing it out every time I was in public. What amazing parents!
People are so ridiculous. How would THEY like it if people pointed and whispered?? If you notice something different, keep it to yourself!!
as you put it 'different' in my eyes is natural untainted beauty
or better yet, approach the person kindly and personably and ask politely. my daughter is albino and i would rather that then pointing. :)
i totally agree
When they do it, point at them and say out loud: "Look! There are judgmental people just right here!". They will go away with their head low
I love this response... HOpe I have the nerve to do it one day when apt.
when they will see that at this moment they are the ones facing stares and that they don't like it one bit. Shame on them!
Except for the fact that you're a hypocritical fuckwit.
call it what you want, just still keep it to yourself. "Oh hey that little mole on your nose, i totally dig it!"
Why not put the port in your chest.
What lovely parents to do this for your beautiful little princess. <3
it's a bit overboard, how about teaching her that people are different and she needs to deal with it as she grows up?
It will forever be a symbol that her parents had her back. She'll learn plenty of harsh lessons outside the home. Big dumb world that it is.
Ah, yes. Be an asshole an criticize someone else's parenting Dr. Spock. How many children do you have?
And do either of your kids have obvious physical deformities? Or are you judging others when you have no idea what they're going through?
I feel like teaching them to be proud of what makes them special. My sons underdeveloped ear is his lucky ear!
Excuse me.. this person was just asking a question and making a suggestion.. Why do you feel the need to insult?
@DarrenMaxwell-Reeve - But they're together.

My son has a couple of physical deformities. One being, his right ear is under developed. I'm not going to cutoff my ear so he feels"normal"

The parents are idiots. If my folks did that I'd be embarrassed. They will all get pointed at now. I have 2 kids.
DaveMcDonald logic: Kid shaves head cause his friend is having chemo. Kid's an idiot. Should rather teach his friend that life is tough. hmm
shaving your head is a bit different to getting TATTOOS that last forever
Who are you to say it's over board! I think it's beautiful that a parent would go this route to make sure their daughter feels comfortable.
How is like showing parents' love overboard?? -_- As long as what they did do not hurt other people, this is not wrong.Pfft!
Seriously screw you dude, that's touching as hell! And, probably the only tattoo that would make you EASIER to employ.
Don't be a douchebag.
And who told you that they won't teach her that when she is old enough to understand?
Exactly.
Their heart was in the right place, their brain...not so much.
i wouldn't worry what other people think- thats a better lesson!
Good thing she wasn't born without arms
:-)
Very touched
I LOVE them!
Amazing and deeply moving. I normally hate tattoos but the pictures of objects either seen or imagined byva child are truly precious.
That's so sweet!
I think that this is wonderful. And also, if they wanted to do both teach her about being diffrent and the tatto, they can. I would do this!
Whilst I think what they have done has felt right for them, I think we need to deal more with the unacceptable attitude towards it
That is what I call decent loving parents & if anyone thinks it's o.t.t. have a screw loose or aren't parent's of a child with birth marks
Do they know that birthmarks can also disappear while growing up?
many birthmarks stay and can grow like my child's
What a beautiful story. I love these parents for doing this......every parent should....
if it were permanent, maybe but most strawberry birth marks are laser removable, she may want to remove them when she's older & now U can't
as a kid that suffered for having a much worse skin problem, this was terrible. the sooner she gets that the issue isn't w/ her, the better
My cousin's birthmark faded over years. When she was born, her Dr. note it very clearly. These are often reported as abuse.
Birthmarks tend to resolve over time. I get they did this to make their daughter feel better and I guess it's just going to have a great story behind it when her birthmark fades.
Um. Birthmarks typically go away. So this is going to be awkward in the future.
How about DONT MAKE FUN OF ANYONE!!!! ESPECIALLY BABIES!!!
I met my bff when we were 11, and became inseparable immediately.. 5 yrs later a fairly new addition to our group of friends asked me about the port wine mark on her face. I had no clue what she was talking about. When I saw her next, I saw the mark but I never remembered it before, and I asked her about it. She said she'd had it from birth, and used to be self conscious about it, but I never mentioned it or stared at it, and when I gave her a makeover once (she never wore make up and I was curious) she said that when I started I looked at her face close and said that she had porcelain skin and didn't need foundation. She said after that, she stopped thinking everyone was staring at it. It's been 23 years since we met and she's still my bff, but we're in different states now and don't get to see her that often. Writing this now, I can see her beautiful porcelain skin, but I wasn't able to remember which side has the mark. This girl is beautiful too, and lucky to have loving parents...
I have severe eczema in fact I have seen several dermatologist and am seeing the best dermatologist in the United States. I love this family and little girl and love the family she had
This is astonishingly courageous. And besides, she's a little girl, only idiots would point and stare. Be proud you had the guts to do this.
I can only say "Woow" This is a true love and dedication..
I think they did the best thing they could do... I love this so much it made me smile and if I was the parents I would have done the same!!!
I find it very hard to believe that anyone pointed and whispered about birthmarks on a toddler's legs. These usually fade as they age. Hmm.
These kinds of birthmarks are easily removed with laser or IPL treatments, for around the cost of tattoos the size her parents got.
That is hands-on parenting. Big thumbs up!
Would do the same. Go mom and dad
That very meaningful
so sweet!
How beautiful is that? Thank you for sharing how awesome some parents are.
That is stupid because there was nothing wrong with the little girl in the first place !!!
Respect. I hate tattoos, and would have done the same for my kid.
Outstanding parents!
This is so sweet! I wish my parents did this for me; I am the only one with an exception of my twins, who has blonde hair in my family.
Wonderful.
That was AWESOME!!!!
Love makes us all do weird and wonderful things. In this case, I think it was a wonderful thing to make her feel comfortable in her skin...
Wow jetzt weiß sie sie ist nicht alleine. ...klasse Aktion :)
You both deserve the "Parents Of The Year Award" totally amazing.
There are so many damaged people that point or stare at people's differences; they must of been drop on their fucking heads.
Awesome!!!
Definitely a big like good job Mum and Dad you already have the approval of the only one who really matters and that's your kid
They could've just removed her birthmarks. My son had the same thing. The removal was painless and cost less than a tattoo.
Your both really wonderful... I hope everyone worldwide gets to see this story and your showing us all how loving parents should be.
STUNNING!!!!!
The best parents in the world!
That is sweet
I would so do that for my kids
Those are very caring and wonderful parents!! :)
beautiful!! that's the true meaning of love and being a parents. we'll do anything for or kids.
It's sweet, however her birthmark with most likely fade as she grows and become a lot less noticeable. Good for them.
Awww that's true love :)
Love love love your story!
aww that was really nice of the parent and sure enough there are many people who like to judge others
I think that they are wonderful parents.
Thats real love !!! <3 <3
Pure of heart but you could have had a tattoo in her flesh color to cover her. I have seen people with port wine scars that had it done.
well...the marks on the little girl's leg don't seem too bad ... the parents' tattos are exageratted instead!
My sister has strawberries on her legs too. We never thought more than it looked like strawberries and that's what we called it.
Loving parents - the best
Dare we hope something like this developing product might be adaptable to treating birthmarks, as well?: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/no
Are you a mixed race couple ? That marking looks like a Blue Spot which is common in mixed race children .It will fade if it is .
There is absolutely nothing wrong with her. And I believe Parents bit exaggerated their daughters condition! I have same birthmark on arm!
Its super over board....
Awesomeness!
Awesomeness!
I wouldn't worry about what other people think - thats a better lesson!
Awesome! Making sacrifices is what parenting is all about.
:-) :-) GREAT FATHER.
such awesome parents. this little angel is so lucky to be raised with mom and dad like these two!!! beyond words.. <3
such awesome parents! beyond words.
See that's so sweet
Tears came to my eyes the moment I read the caption matching the photograph. Well done Mom and Dad.
I think that they should go to Cynosure and have the birthmarks removed and the tattoos too! Their products work 100%
I think they should check out Cynosure laser which removes all birthmarks and tattoos.
I don't mean to sound like a prick but it looks like a false sense of security to me.
I think people are more likely to take the piss for her being called "Honey-Rae"
Fantastic parents.... Best thing they could of done
Honey-Rae will know how much her parents love her to endure the pain from those tattoos just so she would have some normalcy at home.GREAT!!
That goes to show you that parents will go above and beyond for their kids. It can't get any better then that. I'd do the same for mine.
Each to their own. I personally wouldnt go to that extreme but i have 2 physically normal children so who knows what i would do tbf.........
thumbs up for the parents!
Love it makes her feel special in a fantastic way
That is awesome... Makes me want to go get it to show support against bullying...
Wonderful and lovely parents :)
Loving parents! Love it!
Great parents, she is a lucky girl!
thats awesome
