Artist’s Painting Gets Mistaken For A Van Gogh, So She Creates Brilliant ‘Starry Night’ Series (Part II)
One thing is certain, if your painting is confused with one by Vincent Van Gogh, you really have a talent. Do you still remember New-York based artist Aja Trier, who mashes up pop culture elements with Van Gogh's expressive style? Well, a year ago she proved to us that she is extremely talented, and now she is back!
Everything started when an educational blog mistakenly shared her painting of the Eiffel Tower and branded it as a painting by Van Gogh by mistake. It is worth mentioning that this painting of the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 and the famous artist died in 1890. He spent the rest of his life in the south France, therefore, it's not quite possible that he even saw the famous tower.
After this happened, Trier decided to have some fun with this situation and created a whole series of Van Gogh-style paintings that show the things that the famous Dutch painter never got to see before his death. This is how the 'Van Gogh Never' series was born.

Wonderful use of color. It looks like it's lit from within. I'm jealous (in a good way the way that encourages you not to quit).
Aww, love Lil Bub - I'd recognize that derp-tongue anywhere! She's captured Bub's permanent look of wonder.
Beautiful : the black cat sitting on pumpkins under the moonlight gives this one a Hallowe’en flavour.
This is so vivid, you can almost feel the wind through the trees.
The picture in my view shows a dog who has lost a fallen comrad in battle and is looking to the stars hoping one day he will be there too. This picture hit me hard
Lonesome Shore with a truly striking night sky. Lovely indeed. Thank you .
The starry sky is one of my favorite of Van Gogh and I really like all that she has done with the painting .
Looks like she added paper for a 3-D effect? Or else it's just ultra-thick paint. Either way, very cool.
You're amazing! Such bold and fluid gestures and the homage is beautiful.
Load More Replies...I love them. I can see how one of her paintings got confused with one by Vincent Van Gogh. She made the best of the situation and I love the resulting series. She really got his style down and successfully combined it with her own style and with pop culture.
For anyone interested in purchasing the art, you can find it at https://www.etsy.com/shop/SagittariusGallery Thank you again, it means so much to me!!
Thanks for the link! I'm trying to find the one of the Eiffel Tower that sparked this series, and you have so much art! (Full disclosure: I am just curious, not trying to buy it.) Can you give us that link as well?
Load More Replies...This is super cool! Like i can't even use words to express how i feel! it's too cool like mixing halloween + Van Gogh; batman + Van Gogh!!
Oh WOW! I love all of these so much! Heading to the Etsy store asap - Thanks for sharing!!
A few years ago an educational site teaching people about France posted it and attributed it to van Gogh. People shared it on Pinterest with the attribution and then paint and sip places started using it for their paint parties. One literally 2 miles from me had a fight with me via email, adamant that I was insane for attributing the painting to me when it was "clearly a van Gogh". The whole thing was insane.
Load More Replies...Not sure if you already do this, but I think people would love personalized portraits of their pets -- these are wonderful!
I ask people on Instagram to tag their great dog pics #starrynightdogs and if I use them, they get first crack at the original painting and a free print. That's as close to a custom work as I get these days.
Load More Replies...I don't know much about art, but i know what i like. "Starry Night" has always been a favortie--something serene about it. Being a farmer & camper, I loved the ones she did in that genre. They are all great, though.
Now I have to watch the Doctor Who episode 'Vincent and the Doctor'. Your work is wonderful, he's my favourite artist.
I love these paintings! The Halloween themed ones are my favourite, love the studio Ghibli ones too. Definitely buying a few paintings soon. ❤️❤️
I love how she has something for everyone. Each picture the same but so different. Congratulations on a job well done. Thank you for sharing.
