Someone Mocks Person For Being Just A Package Delivery Guy, Gets Perfect Lesson On Respect
With high street stores struggling and online sales booming, your friendly delivery guy has found himself at the center of the modern economy. Business is booming for companies like FedEx and UPS, and I know from personal experience that being out and about on your route, getting some exercise while meeting people and picking up a good paycheck is certainly nothing to be sniffed at.
However, some people are just snobs and tend to judge others based on their idea of ‘worth,’ rather than more human traits such as character, warmth, and personality. Examples of snobs’ favorite ways of judging you include wealth, ‘class,’ appearance, taste in art and fashion and… profession. Someone, commenting on a Reddit thread about UPS drivers, decided that it might be fun to mock delivery guys by suggesting that their job is ‘nothing to be proud of.’ (Facebook cover image: dirkbaltrusch)

Needless to say, it didn’t go down well. For Seinfeld fans, the irony of HellooNewmann coming to the rescue to stand up for delivery drivers is delicious, and this response was as poetic as one could expect from the portly postman. Because come on, shitting on somebody for simply trying to make an honest living is lame. Through our work, we are all contributing to society in one way or another and deserve to be respected! And besides, as Newman himself once said about postal workers: “Just remember. When you control the mail, you control… information.”
“My mother is a USPS Mail Carrier, and a good friend of mine is a UPS Driver,” Corporate Accountant HellooNewmann explained to Bored Panda. “My Mom likes and dislikes her job, it can be tough but is it made tougher by lazy coworkers. If everyone came in and did what they needed to do, it wouldnt be as bad. Sometimes there are little things like the trucks not having AC and holiday overload that make it bad, but then she just gets overtime pay and better routes.”
“Everyone on her route knows her birthday and gives her gift cards for it and Christmas. Overall she likes it. It really just comes down to getting out what you put into it. How there anyone try and degrade a person doing honest work? I don't understand this mentality. So would it be better that he was dealing drugs but had a nice car and a big house (not that you can't have these things in manual labour). Jobs come and go like money, however; decency, respect and manners are specialist skills not very one can have.

And how do you know your pizza driver doesn't have a PhD and 2 post docs? Because I have hired people who were immigrants who when they first came here who were in fact pizza driving PhDs with 2 post docs (and many other similar people), for a lowly entry level chemistry prep job...who is now a well-respected (in the company) highly technical expert. He had to do what he had to do when he got here to support his wife and kids. Good for him. Who doesn't read that and think "good for him"? As opposed to, "dude, you were a $100k brain doing grunt work? What's wrong with you". "Nobody", said anyone who is not a total mean jerk.
The shittier the job, the more respect they should get for doing it. (Someone's gotta do it). Always tip your pizza guy.
If truck drivers/delivery people went on strike we would be screwed. They are the backbone of America in my opinion.
I admire anyone who is gainfully employed. My UPS and FedEx drivers have always been wonderful. My house isn't easy to find, and it's on a dirt road. The delivery people have always been very nice and very helpful.
"NEVER FORGET WAYNE" honors the UPS driver who was murdered in a stupid workplace shooting (by someone ironically going 'postal') after serving the Haight Ashbury neighborhood for over 22 years. Wayne always looked busy but never looked rushed. The stickers are still up all over the neighborhood after 3 years. He had keys to countless apartment buildings, knew the names of all his customers and made every one feel they were his primary concern. Only after his death did many people discover that they shared that feeling with all of their neighbors. I printed up 500 buttons that said that and every one was gone in a couple of weeks.
A month ago during our traditional "Sinterklaas" (Netherlands), our deliveryman drove through the street i live in. 8pm and his van was filled to the top, so it's obvious he's not going to enjoy his dinertime with his family! I know this man to be extremely hard working, always friendly, just a great guy. I just stopped him, grabbed some money from my pocket telling him to enjoy a nice meal and drink on me. Also i told him he did a hell of a job and deserves to be paid a lot more, because without him most of the kids didn't get their presents.
I am a receptionist on a college campus. The DHL delivery guy is the highlight of my day! He's funny, friendly, educated, and full of energy...just what my afternoon needs. If he left for a "better job"...I'm pretty sure I would cry.

Yeah anyone who tries to belittle low wage workers are a******s, for example the rubbish collectors, if they didn't pick all of our waste up every week the streets would be soon swarming with rats and disease etc, just as one example. I cleaned offices for a few years while doing my degree, i still took my job seriously and did a good job. Not everyone is meant to be a high earner, it's how society works.
I love my ups guy. Hes kind, funny and loves animals. He always brings my dog a treat. I emailed them and told them that he was absolutely wonderful. This douchecanoe probably doesnt have a job
I worked 7 years as a clerk at the post office sorting mail to the different carriers in town. My husband was a postal carrier. The job itself was great. The problem was with management. If you sucked at working 'on the floor' (where carriers and clerks handle the actual mail), you were promoted to some office job or postmaster in some distant town. People would get jealous of those promoted until we figured out that the postal worker's motto was "F**k up, move up!" Those who actually did a good job were kept on the floor to keep the mail moving to where it needed to go. So the next time you look at a lowly mail carrier, UPS, Fed Ex, or other, remember that he is one of the best and most important employees you encounter. All those 'lowly' jobs keep America connected. Order stuff online? How does it get to you? Don't do online billing? How would you get your bills delivered? Don't do online banking? How would you pay those bills? Sending something overseas? How?
I would have up voted this, but so many of the comments were almost equal to the original when they made it about money. What I think should be taken from this is to give credit where credit is due, i don't care if you scrub toilets for a living, if you do a good job and earn whatever money you get honestly, no one should ever disrespect you for it.
I worked at FedEx for 33 years. Yeah I was just a delivery guy. I retired at 59 with no debt what so ever. My wife was just a bookkeeper at a nonprofit for 38 years she retired at 59. We just the folks in the background who made good decisions.
I date a guy now who delivers papers. I went with him for the New year cards. Then they give some money. He uses that for orphan kids in Indonesia that he's gonna visit. Most ppl were lovely. Its a real rich neighbourhood. Hes 68. Young ppl dont want to deliver papers. Doesnt pay much and get up at 4, hard work. One couple was absurd.They flipped out at him like he was a 13 y o, because he gave one wrong newspaper once. Unbelievable. You have to be really humble for such a Job.
I made ALOT doing loomis. it was not easy work. I know a guy who works for Fedex with a Range rover.
Pretty funny that the author would misconstrue the guys intention, especially considering the author states their mother works for USPS. If you actually look at the full comment thread, the individual he was trash talking? He was literally implying that another guy was stupid and THAT was why he works for the USPS. It's pretty obvious the other fellow was pointing out that UPS is by no means a far stretch more of a viable career path than UPS and that the guy insulting the other guy was a douche.

He was given an opportunity to join management and turned it down because he made more driving and still had the same benefits as management. He has a nice home with all the trimmings and is sending the third of his three daughters to college. If only everyone could be so fortunate.
I would NEVER put anyone down for doing honest work. I actually was a "city carrier" which is what USPS calls a mailman, for a year and a half, and I found it to be absolutely mind-numbing work with zero sense of accomplishment. Others LOVE IT and I'm truly happy for them!
Oprah was fond of saying " It don't matter if you're a . . . ditch digger . . . " . As a ditch digger this kind of hurt my feelings . Not in a crying, never watch her again kind of way but sometimes I might throw a Cheeto at the television .

I'm sorry but a driver/delivery job is not necessarily easy. They have to drive in snow storm or freezing rain, wind storms or severe thunderstorms with massive downpour, it's not easy.
