People Are Applauding How The Owner Of The Store That Called The Police On George Floyd Reacted
Mahmoud Abumayyaleh, the owner of the Cup Foods store that called the police when George Floyd allegedly used a fake 20 dollar bill, has condemned police brutality and says that he wishes the call to the officers was never made.
Minneapolis state policy requires businesses to call the police when somebody tries to use counterfeit money. However, when a store clerk at Cup Foods called the officers, this led to the death of Floyd. The store owner Abumayyaleh wasn’t at the store at the time of the call but he is devastated about what happened.
“We want to share our feelings about what transpired and led to the death of George Floyd. He was murdered and executed in cold blood. Thankfully, it was recorded and there needs to be some accountability of those officers who were involved,” Abumayyaleh told theGrio in an interview. People are applauding the store owner’s response to what happened.

Abumayyaleh is known as Mike in his community. His family has owned the Cup Foods store, found on the corner of 38th and Chicago Avenue, for 30 years—this is the first and only job that he has ever had.
According to Abumayyaleh, the local community is close-knit, people support one another and nearly everyone knows everyone else by their first names.
Abumayyaleh spoke to theGrio in a video interview
The Cup Foods store released a statement claiming that Floyd did not resist the officers who arrested him and also stated that the man “likely never knew” that he was using a fake dollar bill. The store has been keeping in touch with Floyd’s family nonstop and will be doing its part to cover the costs of the man’s funeral.
“The police brutality and racial injustice in this country must be stopped,” Abumayyaleh called out the abuse of power, adding that the protests and outrage will continue until justice is served.

Abumayyaleh knew Floyd as a customer and said that he was someone who was always pleasant. However, the owner of the store didn’t find out about Floyd’s death just outside Cup Foods until May 26, the day after the police confronted him. “We were all outraged,” the owner said.
Ever since Floyd’s death over a week ago, Abumayyaleh and his 3 sons Samir, Adam, and Mahmoud, have gone into hiding. They have been receiving threats and even had to disconnect their landline phone and take down the store’s Facebook page.
Here’s how people reacted to Abumayyaleh’s response
Internet users supported the store owner and his demand for justice
Some people stepped in and defended the store for calling the police, stating that it’s the routine thing to do

What's wrong in the US is that the president calls black people that are protesting for their right not be killed randomly by cops "thugs", but supports white people that want to break a lockdown during a pandemic to get a haircut.
IKR? It's too stupid to be true, but unfortunately it is. My hat off to the store owner for making a powerful statement, despite now fearing for his own life. Those racist cops ruined so many lives. I'm proud of all the people peacefully protesting. May Floyd rest in peace. If there had been another president, something could change, but alas, the Tangerine is what we got... I hope the mayors and governors back the protestors and that we in Europe will back them, too.
Load More Replies...One of the best people that I know was an officer for 32 years. He said a few things about policing that always stuck with me. #1. Good cops don't have high arrest rates. They are out on the streets helping people solve problems not throwing people in jail for back talk or trumping up charges to make their numbers better. #2. Good cops don't have egos. If a person has a huge ego, policing isn't for them. The purpose of the police is to help people and keep them safe, not make the officer feel powerful. #3. Putting someone in the system is a LAST RESORT not the first choice. He said, "Don't get me wrong, some people have to go to jail. Someone held up the liquor store, put a cigarette out on their child, stole a car, yeah, they have to go to jail. That is a given, but for most people, if the police would just talk to them, so much could be solved and no one has to go to jail." The world needs more police like George and trained by George. He is a great guy.
Your friend sounds like a decent honourable officer. Unlike the beast who kneels on a man's neck
Load More Replies...I really feel bad for anyone who feels that they are responsible for the brutal murder of a human-being by simply calling the people who are supposed to protect them. It's pretty horrific that shop owners in a country like America in the 2020s are scared to call the police in case on of the officers murders their customers in front of them.
It's absolutely tragic and absurd that FOUR POLICE OFFICERS were deployed to deal with this.
I was out looking for my lost cat at 9PM, someone called about a prowler - I was walking on the sidewalk at all times. Three cops were sent. The first one had me with my "hands where I can see them". Thank Goodness for the second and third, who listened about my cat. There are a******s in every job, and I met one. Two of my uncles and my nephew were and are NYPD, and they are the best of the best. They would never do what that POS, and the others who watched him slowly kill Floyd, did. The reason multiple officers are sent is because they have no idea what they'll be facing.
Load More Replies...I grew up very Redneck. We never called the police for any reason. This is exactly why. This isn't a new thing, it has been going on forever. I hope we can change it, but I remain cynical.
I wonder... if I'm a cop and I took that job because I really, truly want to do good, help people, uphold the law. And there are cops in my city or even my precinct that are known to be bullies and racist, how awful would it make me feel to go to work every day when I KNOW that nothing will be done about them? I'm not trying to belittle the fear that coloured people have of involving the police because there might be a racist a*****e who might kill me, but I'm still thinking: there have to be good cops. Those that want to do good and help people. Why is it possible that such raging a******s who calmly kill a person or shove a woman or shoot a driver etc are even able to exist in the force? The saying goes "A rotten apple spoils the bunch". So the right thing - the ONLY thing that should be done is take out the rotten apples before everything is spoiled. And the way trust in the US police has been disintegrating, I'm not sure the bunch isn't already lost :-(
If the squad think along the same lines as the dumbfck murder, then in their eyes, the good cop is the bad apple. Hard part about getting bad apples out is ranks and fear of retaliation.
Load More Replies...It's not the store's fault he was killed, it was the police and the buck stops with them. The store did the right thing. Saying they'll no longer call the police is going to have very bad consequences, they're going to become targets now.
More than ever, he was well known in the store, and by the owners, who were not on duty as the police was called, which likely would have been not called, how many times we ohappen to get a fake bill ? You can take it to a bank which will operwte the necessary checks in the area if too many cases arise, however, not the case here. How pride can be a cop for acting like this for such a small matter ? Now he faces the charges and the conseguences of his actions nationwide. We all heard nyc police stating protesters would not have been hit by a nyc police van if they didn't put themselves in that situation in first place, would like to ask him if this is a statement also for Derek Chauvin actions and what followed in terms of civil war, nothing less.
This murderer may eventually face up to what he did, but it takes a special type of person to squeeze the life out of someone while they plead for their life. Anyone else and serial killer vibes would be used here along with lets look for other bodies
Load More Replies...Blah, blah, blah....he just doesn’t want these animals to burn down his store.
It is b******t to call the cops over a fake $20 bill. YOU JUST REJECT THEIR PURCHASE!!! I’ve been in retail customer service for 18 years, and in ALLLLL of my years. I have NEVER called the cops over a fake bill. Even a fake $100!!! All you gotta do is pull up your panties and reject the purchase. Smh
Did you even read the bit where it's a state policy that requires any business which also cashes cheques to report counterfeit currency for investigation?
Load More Replies...I highly respect this store owner for his statement. I hope that the police officers who were involved in this incident are punished to the fullest extent of the law. I have had both good and bad experiences with the police. The bad experiences are: My father was throwing newspapers on a Saturday night and had the police called on him. Four carloads of police showed up. A police officer followed my sister all the way to our house(without his lights or siren by the way). He finally turned the lights on in our driveway. When my dad went to inquire why his minor daughter had a police officer behind her, he was told to go back in his own home and let the officer handle the situation. My dad wanted to support his teenage daughter during a traffic stop in our driveway. The good experiences I had with the police were: My sister hit a puddle of water and crashed her car into a telephone pole. Given that she was going a little fast at the time she hit the puddle she could have been issued.
I had a bad experience with a cop at my driveway but really it was a good cop move. Doing something stupid when young. Got pulled over. Cop knows who I am. Tells me he is going to follow me home amd hadle it there. I pleaded with him to just handle it here. Nope, get to driveway and popo lights it all up and loud as hell until he saw lights come on and porch door open. Then calmly drove away. Popo knew I would have more of a "life lesson" dealing with family then with him. But that cop you wrote about I believe would be in the wrong because they were a minor and mostly have rights to have an adult with them. I could be wrong on that. Either, bad popo.

Many here in Switzerland are stunned, saddened, outraged, and don't understand the USA's government treatment of minorities. Afro-Americans were slaves and continue to be treated as such. The white European majority don't want in advancement of equal rights for the Afro-Americans. From the beginning European governments and the citizens have always considered these Afro-Americans and Africans as cattle. Make no mistake it's is not finished by all means. The whites that rule won't give up their so call supremacy or share part of the wealth of the country. One must remember that without slaves never the USA would of progressed so quickly. History is a passionate subject, much better than soup operas. I remember the westerns movies and series back in the 50's to 60's, the American Natives were always depicted as blood thrist savages. I've learned otherwise when I study American history. I've read on the subject of USA'S minorities and felt ashamed of being white European.
So, after the harm was done he wants to look good by apologizing? Will that bring back Floyd back? If it was a false call, it should be also considered a crime and be punished by it. This idiot caused the death of your black 'hero' and condemned a good cop for doing his job. Not fair!! Again, my heart goes to Officer Derek's family. I feel for my own as you feel for yours.
Another thing, folks: we're not out of Covid-19 yet; stop gathering over everything. One of you could be infected and i don't wanna die because of your self pride to complain.
Kitty Genovese. This woman was murdered and nobody did a thing to save her life, even doe many heard her scream. It's what all this case remind me of. People saw Floyd in distress, but didn't do a thing to save him neither. Talking s**t about the police or calling white folks racists won't bring this man back. We all need the assistance of the police force one way or another, not crime doers. None of you would've shed tears if it were a black police officer on Floyd's neck or if Floyd were white. You only want to form part of a situation like a fake hero or an influencer looking to look good in the eyes of strangers. Kitty was murdered by a black man because he could. Please, stop blaming the police, if Floyd never resisted his arrest, he'll be alive. You may see me as a creep because you don't like people that remove your masks. Don't crime and the police won't bother you. Every downvote that you give me, will be an applause to the Police.
BOO! Cup Foods has been harrassing and calling the cops on black ppl for years. Fake apology. Even was molesting little girls. Look it up.
When a society is inherently dumbed down, paranoid, wilfully ignorant and with zero drive to broaden its collective intellectual horizons, most of the government officials and law enforcement will be filled with what I can only call, primitive personnel, who are a mirror of the nation. Feer is so deeply inbred in the collective minds thanks to brainwashing and systematic erosion of the education for the last 80 years, the situation we see now in the U.S. is a logical result of a far more menacing institutional failure. Planned and systematic failure. Let me emphasize; I do not condone in any shape or form police brutality. That being said, the cops reacted the only way they knew how. People want to blame somebody. They should start with themselves and congress.
While I admit you have a point, I refuse to believe that the man kneeling on George Floyd's neck acted "the only way he knew how". I refuse to believe that he didn#t know that it was wrong, or that every other cop would have done the same thing. I simply refuse to believe that the police is rotten deep, deep into its core. I'm still holding hope that those who aren't will prevail and that change is possible! But it needs to start with police-accountability, prison-sentences for offenders inside the police and a better training for recruits (and better evaluation-tests)
