With the pandemic having put our lives on unprecedented hold, many are dreaming of returning to norm… Who are we lying to? The sole, okay, one of the little things, we truly miss badly is traveling. And I can bet that at any given opportunity, you’d be up and rolling with a fedora to any place in the world just to sip on a pina colada and forget the comfort-turned-hell of your four home walls.

And it’s no secret that many thirsty travelers have must-see travel bucket lists somewhere in the drawer waiting for the borders to open up. For some, it’s Times Square and Hollywood, for others, it’s all about dinner with a view at the Eiffel Tower, but as you’re about to plan your next big post-pandemic trip, you may as well take some good advice from people who have been to those places, but would likely travel back in time to not go there.

So below, ladies and gents, are the most overrated travel destinations shared in one r/AskReddit thread to help us reflect on our sightseeing must-dos before its too late.

People Share What Travel Destinations Are Absolutely Overrated (30 Pics) The Mona Lisa in Louvre in Paris. It's just a small painting hanging quite far away in a really crowded room full of tourists. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful, iconic painting, but it's not worth visiting the Louvre only for the Mona Lisa. The majority of the other artworks in that museum are more impressive than the Mona Lisa.

Yes! From a business travel point of view, it was great as everything was easy and you can get anything you might be missing from home, but anything to do for leisure or tourism just feels completely synthetic.

This is true. Pisa is wierd and kinda cool but very much a tourist trap. That said, I had one of my best Italian meals in a tiny restaurant in Pisa. I asked my taxi driver where he takes his wife for thier anniversary. It was reasonably priced, really nice atmosphere and amazingly good food.

You see that little chunk of land on the right hand side, just up from the flag? You can stand right there and feel the ground shake! I disagree. The downtown area is Tourist City (great for kids and teens, though), but the Falls are magnificent. Especially during the holiday season in December. They have the most wonderful light show, you can walk or drive along them, with carols playing. Bundle up and take a thermos of hot chocolate!

I disagree. I was so captivated we stayed and ate at a restaurant that oversees it. I found it so mesmerizing I could have stayed and watched for hours

Plus the Canadian side is like a cheap carnival. The US city of Niagara Falls is a complete dump but at least they have a full access State Park that takes you right up to the falls.

The Canadian side has beautiful gardens and is well worth the effort.

I wholly disagree. I go at least once a year, sometimes twice. The actual falls never cease to amaze me. Tons of really fun interactive museums and funhouses that are open til 1 or 2 am. At least 3 haunted houses, a 4 level go kart track, giant observation wheel, 3 really cool mini golf courses... basically Lundy’s Lane/Clifton hill will make anyone feel like a big kid! Hershey’s chocolate factory is combined with a vintage style Coca Cola store which I never miss. 2 huge casinos, zip lining in the dark with the American falls lit up in the backdrop is fun too. All within reasonable walking distance for most people too. I just love it!

Grew up in Niagara and surrounding cities and never understood why people bothered - it's the epitome of a tourist trap and so over crowed in the summer. Locals stay away from it, because of this.

I've seen it in every season, accompanying visiting relatives and friends. Stayed over in a cheap motel only once and NEVER again.

Actually the American side has a really lovely park. There is a lot more to see than the Falls

agreed. I can stare at the water for far too long. It has this hypnotic 'hey, maybe you should jump in' quality to it that is...disturbing. But once you have done that, the rest of the place, no matter which side of the border you are on, is a frickin eyesore

Went in 2000, the Chinese tourist were the worst! Pushing and shoving, no thanks. The revolving restaurant: you have to pay to get up and then spend a specific amount to eat there. I’ve never had bacon bits on a Caesar salad before either.

I don't get the last sentence. Is it that you've now got noting to look forward to? Because there are limitless places to put on your bucket list, often close to home.

I thought they meant that once you've seen it, there's nothing else to do there. I've never been, but I imagine & also see from comments here that you can look at it for ages.

The mermaid show at weeki wachee springs in FL. Their show looks great on their website, but the images you see with silicone tails were used or photo shoots or special occasions. Any normal day the show is very lackluster and I super disappointed.

I'm not sure I've ever considered that the inside of a working office would be something you could just go and visit.

People Share What Travel Destinations Are Absolutely Overrated (30 Pics) The Statue of Liberty. Takes forever to get on a crowded ferry.
Once you get there you have a great view of her back but there is no room in the front to get a good picture let alone be in the picture.

I cannot relate. I loved the ferry ride and I got great pictures of the front of the statue with myself on them too. If you go there, go up to her head, it is a great experience!

Expensive, cheesy, absolutely packed with tourists. I have been twice because the people I was with really wanted to go, and all I remember is kids running and screaming in the “torture chamber” themed room, and the ravens which were the only interesting part.
