The idea for “#ThingsThatiHear” arrived when I was visiting a cookware store in Los Angeles. A young woman was looking at her phone and gave a big sigh, turned to her friend decisively and exclaimed, “He wants to go to Bali. But I say Fiji!” I couldn’t help but laugh. The absurdity of this “first world problem” was too much. From that moment on I started to catch all sorts of real-life conversations, that eventually turned into these illustrations.

The characters in the world of “#ThingsThatiHear” are people we all know: They are our office mates who complain to us about the daily grind. They are the awful online date we are trying so hard to forget. They are the people silently stalking our Facebook. More than anything they are the US when we think no one is listening.

Based on the incredible support I’ve received on social media I am inspired to create a #ThingsThatiHear Book!

I've never understood people who hate on super-positive personalities. I get that we don't always wanna hear the sunshiney comments, but there's nothing wrong with being optimistic and friendly.

Lunch from home. Saved so much in not buying lunch every day, it paid for an apartment in Buenos Aries for two weeks for myself and my SO. Yeah, I'm such a loser.

All the time I hear, "Uh, Amanda always brings her lunch. It alway look so good, but she *always* brings her lunch". Yes, I do always bring my lunch, because I refuse to eat that veritable "garbage from a box". I save a ton of money and I'm super healthy because of it. Yes, those are good targets snobby criticism...*dramatic eyeroll*

Spending a good chunk of your paycheck on junk food that is over priced and heated up in a microwaved and served by people with dirty hands is for losers. Enjoy that sketti.. Bet it tastes amazing! ..........and call your mother.

good for him, he'll be the one who wins in the end....he'll have no debt or financial worries...they will be drowning in debt caused by trying to 'keep up with the Jones's' and a £1K+ bill each year for starbucks!

F**k them two, i work night shifts and have to bring my own food anyway, you save lots of cash and eat actual homecooked food as opposed to mcdonalds, subway, f****n sandwich meal deals etc. One of the regular meals i have is spaghetti and meatballs with loads of parmesan cheese, yum-yum.

Haha I thought people would think the same thing at my job so I hesitated to do it. But eventually gave in and now I bring lunch everyday. Best decision I've made :)

Plus if you bring from home you're less likely to get crappy food like McDonalds!

Bringing home food as your lunch is an act of love. Either you have someone who cooks for you or it is an act of self care for you yourself know how to cook.

The way my husband cooks, you'd have to go to a Michelin starred restaurant to even get close to what I'd be bringing for lunch.

This is interesting for me. I live in Asia n it is relatively inexpensive to eat out excluding restaurants. We have lots of coffee shops or cafeterias that give u a decent meal between $3-7 with or without drinks. Actually, it is more expensive to cook for 1-2pax at home. Please do share the typical food expenses in the countries u stayed. 😊

Depends which part of Asia. Singapore it’s standard to eat meals out. But not in all Asian countries. Tiffins are big in India, and “baon” in the Philippines.

He saved money and probably calories too. Also, he got more work done since he didn't leave to go somewhere else for lunch. All in all, I'd call him the winner!

I feel the opposite when I see people bring in home cooked meals I just feel that they've got their life together and I'm a mug for spending ridiculous amounts in the city.

Making your own lunch takes quite some efforts, time etc., so you are certainly not a loser. And, if someone else makes that for you then you have a person who loves you to the moon and back. So, guess who's the loser here?

My Mom made us kids' lunch everyday during 13 years of school. We couldn't afford school lunch and mom said it was slop anyway. I still bring my own lunch. I make it so I know what it is. I get compliments on how good it smells and I just smile.

Lunch from home is all I could ever afford. No going out either. Glad when UK brought in minimum wage, huge (and only) pay rise

The artist's name is AVNER GELLER -- I am going out on a limb to say that Avner is probably Jewish and not cruelly stereotyping these characters, instead merely illustrating them.
