16 Stunning Works Of Origami Art To Celebrate World Origami Day

November 11 is Origami Day in Japan, where the paper crane has become a symbol of peace, but did you know that Origami isn’t an entirely Japanese invention?

Ancient Japanese origami used cut or marked paper, and was first mentioned in a poem from 1680. In Europe 100 years later, German pedagogue Friedrich Fröbel taught kindergarten children simple mathematical forms by folding whole pieces of paper. This system was imported to Japan after 1860, and is the basis for what we consider modern origami.

Are you adept at folding paper into beautiful forms? Share some of your creations, or vote on your favorite below!

Should mention that this is wet folding origami and is much more difficult to make than regular origami. The wetness makes it possible to make softer edges and curves. Really pretty though.

This is some AMAZING examples of origami. Hopefully people will start too realise it's not just folding paper - it's creating examples of life with paper, and teaches you patience.

This art simply astounds me since the best I've done is a paper airplane which didn't fly too well. These are freakin' amazing!

Most of these are done with help of water so they most likely don't have any instructions. :( If you want to do something really beautiful I would suggest you to try and do a peacock, here's a pretty good looking instructions: http://xinjingrushui.com/node/2035 Remember to take your time, think about what you do and you'll have good looking piece done in no time. For the next try you could try to do the same but with some beautiful paper with some sort of pattern maybe? :)

Unfortunately, most of the stuff (if not all) is KIRIGAMI and not origami… You should be exact about that when you do a post like that…
