I have never learned how to ride a bike.

When people say "this will be as easy as riding a bike" my brain always immediately thinks "yikes".

I hate having to park, battle crowds, hope what I want is in stock and then wait in line to buy it. Generally, if Amazon doesn't have it, I don't need it. I have Amazon Prime to get free shipping and I get a delivery almost every day.

Not a difficult task. Interestingly, I changed three tires in my life, despite never owning a car. Turns out there are a lot of people out there that have cars but don't know how to do it and are completely helpless as a result. I only knew how because I had watched my grandpa do it as a kid once.

It can be trivial if annoying, but sometimes it’s not trivial at all. I had to call AAA to help when I had removed all the bolts and the wheel still wouldn’t come off. The guy that came to help had to use a mallet to separate the wheel from the car. Apparently this happens sometimes. A virtual weld between surfaces develops.

This was a requirement from my drivers Ed teacher who wanted all us girls to learn so we would never be stuck! I still appreciate it to this day, although luckily its the only time I had to actually change one! lol

Good luck even finding the spare on a modern car. Our Dodge minivan, it's under the car, under the drivers seat, and you have to remove the center console to access the part that lowers the spare tire holder. In order to find the tool to do that, you have to remove a storage compartment in the rear and then remove a panel behind it. The jack is in a similar location, but on the other side. I had to watch a Youtube video just to determine if the car even HAD a spare! Oh, and there's no way to check the air pressure in the spare without doing all of the above, which takes about 20 minutes. Crazy. If that spare ever has to come out guess what? We will then have a spare stored under the 3rd seats in the back, where it ought to be. Changed a lot of tires in 50 years, most, back when it was easy to find the tire, the spare, and how to do it, unless you forgot the right side tires removed by turning the wrench the "wrong way" (look that up.) Easiest change ever was on a 65 MGB, knockoff hubs. no wrench needed... Rubber mallet instead. And the spare was mounted on the trunk lid.

Everyone should know how to change a tire. It might not ever be needed, but when it happens, you NEED to know.

No wonder, you don't seem to get it. You don't change a tire when it's up, youl change it when it goes down.

I know how to, and have, but if I can stand on the roadside and look, helpless, and have someone else come along and do it for me, I will. It’s a dirty job.

My father taught me how to change a flat tire, but I don’t have the strength required to change it anyway. Last flat I called AAA and the guy had a lot of trouble unscrewing the bolts. Nope, don’t have the strength.

It's not difficult. I was changing tires, replacing my water pump & bandaging my exhaust all on my own in college. Handy Scottish lady here...hehehehe - thanks dad for bringing me up with practical skills.

A spare tire maxes out at 50mph. Driving 30 miles home on slow roads with stop lights and stop signs in the rain took 2+ hours. I keep tire plugs and a can of fix-a-flat in my car now.
