30 Of The Freshest Jokes About The Pandemic And New Covid-19 Variant “Omicron” To Make You Laugh Or Cry
On the 26th of November, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 named Omicron. It was first discovered in southern Africa and was labeled as highly transmissible. Though there’s not much knowledge about the actual risks and effects of the new strain, it’s considered to be the next big thing in the COVID-19 pandemic story.
Yet again, this has left the world in shock and some countries have already started tightening travel rules with a few already announcing lockdowns. However, even in the most difficult situations, people still find a way to carry on laughing. A new wave of Omicron variant memes has taken over social media in order to ease up the anxiety with a light dose of humor.
Bored Panda has collected some of the funniest memes and jokes that are floating around the Internet. Make sure to check them out below and upvote the most hilarious ones!

While this new Omicron threat opens up the mental trauma we only started to let go of with the help of vaccination, internauts decided to deal with it straight away. And the method they chose is definitely closest to our hearts—by creating countless hilarious memes and jokes in reaction to it. This time, mainly about the fact that many of us already have big plans for the future and the fear that we might need to cancel them once again.
Throughout the whole pandemic, we’ve had plenty of stuff to laugh at: from toilet paper hoarding memes and funny Zoom fails to the never-ending jokes about life in lockdown. All of this really helped because instead of just sitting around and feeling the anxiety creeping in, people were able to break into a smile. In fact, Mayo Clinic Staff states that laughter is a great form of stress relief, and that’s no joke.
There’s plenty of short-term benefits: a good laugh can enhance your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulate your heart and other vital organs. It also activates and then cools down your stress response which leaves you feeling relaxed. Lastly, "Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress."
Thinking about long-term effects, laughter is known for strengthening your immune system. Plus, it’s a great way to relieve pain, since it makes the body produce natural painkillers. Not to mention that it significantly improves your mood: "Many people experience depression, sometimes due to chronic illnesses. Laughter can help lessen your stress, depression, and anxiety and may make you feel happier. It can also improve your self-esteem."
Having a good chuckle helps you to cope with sometimes hard and difficult situations. If you’re scared that you’re missing out on all of these benefits because you have no sense of humor, don’t worry, humor can be learned. You can start by watching funny movies or TV shows and hanging out with friends that make you laugh. Looking at funny images and reading jokes can also help you improve, and if you’re scrolling through this post, you know you’re in the right place.
A study published in the Psychology of Popular Media journal found that memes helped people cope with life during the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers with Pennsylvania State University and the University of California Santa Barbara found that those who looked at memes during the pandemic reported having "higher levels of humor" and feeling calmer and more content.
They conducted an online experiment with more than 748 participants to see how looking at funny pictures will affect them and influence the way they're coping with the pandemic stress. These people reviewed a variety of memes and were asked to rate the cuteness, humor, and emotional responses prompted by the materials. Also, report if they made them think about COVID-19.
"Compared with viewing other media content, viewing memes resulted in Internet users experiencing greater humor and positive emotions. When Internet users viewed memes with captions focused on COVID-19, they reported lower COVID-19-related stress levels than if they viewed memes focused on other topics, suggesting that tackling a stressor directly with humorous popular media content can benefit our emotional state and stress levels."
Yeah it's kinda unfortunate they chose the Greek alphabet because "The Omega Variant" sounds like it's gonna be a zombie horror movie
The lead author of this research, Jessica Gall Myrick, Ph.D., said that "as the pandemic kept dragging on, it became more and more interesting to me how people were using social media and memes in particular, as a way to think about the pandemic." They found that viewing just three memes can already help you cope with the stress that a global pandemic causes you.
“This suggests that not all media are uniformly bad for mental health and people should stop and take stock of what type of media they are consuming. If we are all more conscious of how our behaviors, including time spent scrolling, affect our emotional states, then we will better be able to use social media to help us when we need it and to take a break from it when we need that instead,” the professor at Pennsylvania State University explained.
One of my "friends" on fb told me, that there is not a letter omicron in Greek alphabet... And that they named it after some guy (forgot the name, sorry) who produces Graphene, which is in vaccine and which cause infertility :D
If you already scrolled through the list and still feel like the dark cloud of the pandemic is looming over your head, we’ve got you covered. There’s plenty of funny things to laugh at, from "My Plans vs. 2020", the best Covid vaccine memes to jokes about the first year of the pandemic.
Honestly at this point if aliens came I wouldn't be shocked. I'm just expecting these things to happen at this point.

Funny how if everyone got the vaccine when it first came out, wore masks and socially distanced than we wouldn’t be at this stage. But hey! Freedom over life right?
Even if everyone was willing to get vacinated, vaccine hourding by rich countries would have gotten us here.
Not if there was any semblance of restricted travel.
Europe sent several thousand doses into under developed countries to the point we hadn't enough to vaccinate everybody in the beginning
It's not about sending thousands of vaccines, or millions for that matter. It would be about waiving intellectual property rights so other countries could manufacture them freely. That would have changed a lot. But what do you think is happening instead? We're protecting commercial interests over human life. And don't pretend Pharma hasn't made their investment back by now.
Several thousand doses isn't going to make a difference when the world population is 7.5 billion.
Well, the people from the rich countries also need vaccines, giving everything away would have been a desaster. Shows perfect the problem with 3rd world countries, though. If the rich countries can't help them they are screwed (something that didn't change since decades and will stay so)
Countries like Canada had enough doses to vaccinate their population twice over. Also, rich countries had started booster shots when many in developing countries still hadn't gotten their first shot.
What about the wealthy of those countries, which there are many, do they spend anything on vaccines or just take the free ones first. ?
You are stupid.

Yeah, keep blaming everyone who isn’t vaccinated. Please stop and think for a few minutes with me! Some of us are in medical situations where we simply can’t be vaccinated. With any vaccines and not just Covid. I can’t even get a simple flu or tetanus shot. But I’m still one of those being blamed for the ongoing pandemic. I didn’t start this mess. Nor did anyone else I know of who can’t be vaccinated. You know how the flu varies from year to year with a different type and different mutations? COVID’s doing the same thing, just a bit faster. And there’s no real off season for this virus so we’re stuck with it year round. Please don’t tell me again how I need to be vaccinated to save the world. I can’t do I stay home. I’m close to being bedridden anyway. I wear masks when I do happen to get out. I’m honestly more concerned about how I can protect my service dog from it. I depend on her for so much but there’s so little info about protecting her out there.
Being medically unable to receive a vaccine is worlds away from refusing to get it because somehow your rights are being violated. I hope you're able to get through this mess safely. Your service dog as well!

Except no, because the jab is barely effective, 90% of masks even in hospitals are rubbish (only ffp3 are effective), social distancing isn't enough, people are grotty and don't wash their hands, and most importantly importantly that's not how viruses work otherwise flu wouldn't exist anymore.
Thus far, the vaccine has been extraordinarily helpful - not perfect, by any means - but has prevented many, many deaths and extreme forms of symptoms. I'm not sure where your information is coming from.
It seems very "all or nothing". The vaccine doesn't prevent all infection or all deaths, therefore rubbish. Most masks don't block the virus 100%, therefore rubbish. In reality, a layered approach of multiple techniques is having a good effect. Vaccines, which moderately reduce infection and greatly reduce severe disease and death, combined with masks and distancing which moderately reduce transmission (and viral load when it is transmitted) are keeping the infection, hospitalization, and fatality rates lower in the communities that are using them. I live in a county that is among the most vaccinated in the US where we still mask indoors in public. Our case and death rates are 1/4 the national average and about 1/10 of of our low-vax red states. That doesn't look like rubbish to me.
And "masks don't work"... 🙄 I've never quarantined, always went to work, even during the first wave (in Italy, and you know how hard it hit us). Always with precautions: masks, sanitizing hands, social distancing...Every year i get one or two strong cold, like a clock. Well, nothing in 2020, nothing in 2021... Masks are not perfect but they work enough
Can you try being wrong about something less harmful?
I think you have been misled.
Just came to the comment section to see if there were any anti-vaxxers left alive that still have the balls to come here and post about how the vaccines are fake. Lmaooo
Anti vaxxers have balls. Actually, sperm from unvaccinated men is highly sought after these days.

People who travel are the ones spreading this. The only people who can travel are vaccinated. I hope you see where this is going...
I didn't know republicans travelled? I was under the impression they thought USA was the entire world.
This is also factually untrue Greg. You can get on many flights without a vacation. On arrival, many countries have different testing and isolation rules for non jabbed - but you can still get on the plane.
Time is an abstract concept and has no influence on real life events, so who knows how long we'll be stuck with all these things happening. :(
Well we do know that if everyone would just do their part, it would end a lot faster.
Objectively incorrect. Google "dimensional analysis physics"
Welp, I stand corrected.
