57 Times People Had No Idea What They Were Looking At, But The Internet Knew What It Was Right Away
The world is a big place, and sometimes you don't have all the answers to all the random questions. The Internet does, though. There's even a subreddit called What Is This Thing? where people post photos when they have no clue what they're looking at, and others try to identify these interesting things. Can you believe it? A place on the Internet where you can ask and not be afraid of getting ridiculed for your ignorance and asking questions? Unbelievable, I know. That's why Bored Panda has compiled a list of some of the most random stuff and interesting facts found on that page, and you will surely learn a thing or two. From an unorthodox public bathroom door design to a hole in the sky, these cool photos and the explanations behind these random things are real eye-openers. Odd Square Metal Imbedded In A Rock. What Is This Thing?
Once a large pyrite discovery was made. Few people and their leader (can't remember his name) found something that was old, shiny and... well, it was obviously gold. They brought tones of the thing back to Europe just to discover it was a common pyrite. Everyone laughed at the poor men. They remained "fools" in other people's eyes for the rest of their days. Since then, the pyrite came to be known as the "Fool's gold".

Load More Replies...what about that law that prohibits exposing yourselves in public places? doesn't that make this kind of illegal?
That's... well I 'm always surprise how much imagination some people can use to be mean to others. Just like when I discover the anti-homeless street furniture. It's different of course but usually the places where commodities are mandatory, are places that sell food and drinks. I would boycott places like that: poor interest for the people spending money in their shop.
I don't see any difference in anti homeless furniture and anti privacy doors... Both are making life to somebody else more difficult than necessary... -.-
Load More Replies...If you've seen what I've seen in public bathrooms, you may change your mind.
Load More Replies...That is very degrading to those of us who HAVE to use handicapped stalls.
Disabled person here, if I had to use that stall, I would immediately photo graph the view from inside and outside, find an attorney and file charges for indecent exposure, violation of my right to privacy, and a violation of the ADA laws, and anything else the attorney could come up with. Sick, dishonest, and twisted. Those stalls are required by law for a reason.
I'd raise bloody HELL if I ever went into a restroom and found this. I'd go grab something from SOMEWHERE in the building to block the view in an emergency. What the hell is wrong with people that they would think this was a good idea?
What a useless effort to even make a toilet like this! Ticks the boxes, but ultimately useless. How absurd. The stuff that anxiety dreams are made of!
is this the same reason why public bathroom (in northern america) have those hugh gaps between the door and the wall? as a european i find it very strange and leck of privacy.
I experience the same quandary every time I have to use a public bathroom (i'm in the US)! I don't know which is worse, being in the stall trying to cover yourself from whoever's on the other side, or being on the other side desperately trying to look ANYWHERE but those gaps.
Load More Replies...Hello Architect - the best use of time and money would actually be not to spend out on having a door at all. That idea is copyrighted to me if you wish to use it ;-)
Unnecessarily causing more humiliation for a disabled person ! <:-o inexcusable !!
This is a disability restroom and the door is cut low so if someone falls and is hurt, someone can get in there faster to help them. I worked at as school for special needs that had them.
Actually that's so the PCA of a disabled person can step outside while they're on the pot, and give them the illusion of privacy while still being able to see if there is a problem. I imagine abled bodies people don't see it that way.
@Shadow_Phillips this is a disabled toilet a) the door opens outward so that a wheelchair can get be rolled in and the door closed behind the wheelchair b) enlarged space c) the toilet is equipped with supporting bars so that disabled people can use them to support themselves to sit down or get up ro to go form their wheel chair on the toilet d) often a the personal assistant will be in attendance .. if you know what a battle a PA will have to perform to get a wheelchire bound person onto an ordinary toilet then this is a luxury e) to the archtect above is your client ordered the doors for the purposes you mentioned I would refuse the assignment and report this client to the authorities
Load More Replies...Goes along with just not putting toilet paper in the handicapped stalls.
For an architect, you're egregiously uninformed. This design enables access from the outside so that someone assisting a handicapped user can then close and secure the door, or enter if required.
1. Could be to assist any mishaps by a disabled ... 2. Discourage use by non disabled
What should be illegal that humans have to live like rats. Everyone should have some sort of
Ah yes, you'll find these down the hall from the break room with no chairs.
I think there are other ways they can discourage people from entering. Some things are private and it's not good to be seen by other people. Why build a toilet if you don't want people to use? I understand that there are nasty people out there, but this is somehow degrading. I think there are better ways to discourage people, maybe have a turn stile gate that requires one to insert coins to gain access. Maybe there are better ways but this one, I don't find it right
Or discourage Public Sex happening within so that the offenders would be visible to Security without warning.
I often have nightmares where, oddly enough, there are toilets with similar doors, aka leaving barely any privacy. Never knew what those dreams wanted to tell me but now I'm sure: they warned me to clean my bathroom more often!
In psychiatric hospitals the doors are like that so you can't hang yourself.
So then why build toilets of u don't want ppl to use them??? How Dof is this!
Hmmm maybe we should have these over here. Way too many times have a walked into a stall only to find some hideous mess waiting for me. I really don't understand why some people feel the need to totally wreck a toilet area? I mean, what in the hell are they thinking??!!
This door does seem to be useless. Why a door at all, when all one has to do is look over it.
Should be illegal and property owner made to install regular regular door.
In some schools low doors are used so that students don't ingest/inject/smoke drugs in the stalls (especially boys' bathrooms). Needless to say, not appreciated, probably not legal, and not effective. Cameras in halls, outside the building are much more effective.
In my opinion it's not the case at all. I've seen these kind of toilets they are usually for children in the lady's room.
What a waste of space and fixtures, but I guess it would look fine as a decoration but still :/ I guess it's a plus for the owner because less men to hire for cleaning on a long run and no need to mind the fixtures if it breaks or not because it isn't used in the first place. Man, they found a plothole in the NBC. Great study and clever tactics, terrible moral.
In reality this is made to discourage stallsex. For real. There's a rather large niche of people that loves banging on public places like mart stalls.
Id just leave them to bring there there own toilet paper but thats just me
That is one of the weirdest things I've read this week. Why not just not put in toilets if you don't want to clean them?

Looks like some wooly aphids. Woolly aphids are sucking insects that live on plant fluids and produce a filamentous waxy white covering which resembles cotton or wool. The adults are winged and move to new locations where they lay egg masses. The nymphs often form large cottony masses on twigs, for protection from predators.

I went through all 6 pages of these submitted 'finds' and am totally gobsmacked by the variety of life and living creatures, oddball products and other weird stuff people out there know about. Great stuff!!!
A lot of fun trying to guess what they could possibly be. I too would have love to see more of them. I also love a lot of smart a*s answers. Good for a chuckle or two. :)

This was absolutely amazing. I had no clue what most things were and they were very interesting.
great collection of things we would never have been able to identify but now we know, more please.
#13 very cool. Living in the US, I am a little envious of Europeans who have such cool architectural finds crop up. But it must be a pain to municipalities to plan a road, building, or other infrastructure and start digging and find some antiquity and then have to stop everything to have the archeologists come and have a look and then dig up and relocate the find. Still really cool. We still occasionally unearth pottery from some of the 1st colonies or tribes and dinosaur fossils but nothing as cool as digging down and finding an intricate mosaic tile floor that someone laid down piece by piece cutting each piece of stone by hand.
Every single time i get over a 100 like they wont let me comment anymore
