We’re in a very precarious situation right now. With the Covid-19 vaccines looking to be ready for distribution (the UK just approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine), some people are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and relaxing now that we appear to be approaching the endzone. And that’s how lockdown rules get broken.

But the worst offenders are those who never believed in the need for any precautions in the first place. They think that their right to live a comfortable life is more important than the safety of the most vulnerable in society. Case in point, actor Laurence Fox from the UK bragged that he was protecting his rights by having a large group of people over for lunch. He also criticized the NHS.

Fox’s thread caused a lot of heated discussions on Twitter. His supporters and critics clashed online. But it was probably nurse Joanna whose response was the most powerful. In a time of opportunistic and divisive platitudes, Joanna cut straight through the BS to the core of the argument. Have a look at what Fox and Joanna said below.

Actor Laurence Fox publicly stated that he broke lockdown regulations and urged others to do the same. He also had a go at the NHS

The internet wasn’t kind to Joanna. A lot of Fox’s supporters insulted her and her views

Joanna works as a Cardio-Thoracic Intensive Care nurse and Bored Panda has reached out to her for a comment. So stay tuned for an update, dear Readers.

Unfortunately, the internet can be a toxic place. After Joanna shared her post, she got a lot of hate. “Got my point across and am experiencing a lot of hate for it. Very overwhelmed. Going to have a bath and watch Schitt’s Creek and wait for this to blow over!” she said.

According to the BBC, the UK has already ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine. That’s enough to vaccinate 20 million people (each one gets two shots that are spaced out over time for the vaccine to be effective).

The first 800k doses of the vaccine, which took only 10 months to develop, will be coming to the UK in the upcoming days. The NHS is ready to start vaccinating next week, according to Health Secretary Matt Hancock. But we’re not out of the woods yet and it’ll be a long while before regulations like social distancing and wearing face masks go the way of the dodo.
