This Premature Baby Who Had No Visitors For Five Months During Hospital Stay Gets Adopted By Her Nurse
Each year thousands of children enter the foster care system and many of them have a hard time finding a stable home. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Children’s Bureau there were over 690,000 children in the foster care in 2017, and less than 60,000 of them were adopted.

Gisele who was born at 29 weeks to drug-addicted parents has been adopted by the nurse who cared for her
Two years ago, Gisele, who was born prematurely and was diagnosed with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome as a consequence of being exposed to opiates in the womb, could have ended up in the foster care system too, with no guarantee of finding a loving family to take care of her. However, the little girl was lucky enough to meet the nurse Liz Smith who decided to become her mother.
Liz always dreamed of becoming a mother. She knew that having 13 nephews and nieces is not enough for her, and she wanted to have a child of her own. However, her fertility treatments were unsuccessful and she had to give up on trying to get pregnant.
While many people encouraged her to consider adoption, Liz was reluctant to the idea. But her mind was changed almost immediately when she met a beautiful blue-eyed baby at the Franciscan Children’s hospital she worked at.
Liz felt an instant connection with Gisele and after finding out that no one visited her for the past 5 months she spent in the hospital, Liz stepped in to take care of her. Each day, after a long day at work, Liz would visit Gisele and help her to recover.
While the hospital provided the best care possible, the kindhearted nurse knew that for this baby to recover, she needs a stable home and a loving parent. Luckily, Liz was willing to provide it to her.
After more than a year of being in foster care, Gisele was adopted by Liz in October 2018. Liz, who now is 45 years old and a 2-year-old Gisele is one happy family.
Despite not having a child in a traditional way Lizz hoped for, she now advocates for adoption and encourages other people to consider this path to get the family they dream of.

Share on FacebookFor some reason, this reminds me of the young 8 year old boy that got tired of being in and out of foster care because his mother couldn't be bothered to get her sh*t together to take care of her kid, yet refused to give him up for adoption. So he sued his parents for divorce and won. He was adopted by the foster family that helped him through the legal battles. He's now grown up and a fantastic person thanks to a foster family that cared enough to rescue him from neglectful parents. Congrats on the family being official. Here's hoping to a bright future for the both of you!
The heartbreaking thing i experienced at work was twice - the toddlers got hold of the methadone - it is sweet and syrupy and supposed to be kept in the fridge. They died both times. Hard to say after working with them for years, but young children are safer out of their parents drug using environment. Remember being proudly shown a 2 month old happy baby - a few weeks later it had passed away.

Yes, I thought so too. They were perhaps always meant to be.
Load More Replies...I knew someone who was at a park or something like that was close to where an "Adoption Fair" was going on. A little boy walked up to a her and hugged her and wouldn't let go. He told her that she was his mommy and I guess she felt a a strong connection too that she eventually adopted him even though she was single too. She has never regretted her decision!
I read this article a couple of days ago and wondering how to share in BP. How incredible is this story! I melt my heart to know that this little girl was backed up in terms of growths and exposure to learning new things and feeling love. This little girl was only seen by doctors who went into get her vitals and then left. I wonder what she thought... like oh! new faces! Some cuddles. Not long ones. They seem nice... The one day a lady walks in and starts giving her real affection! This little girl is beautiful! I cant believe after the 5 months the parents were still allowed to see her even after leaving her for 5 months. At least not she has a safe and secure home! <3
I kind of get what you're trying to say but in my personal experience, this wasn't the case. My son was in the NICU for six weeks with about 20 other babies (that's how many were generally in the unit). The nurses and doctors adored those babies and the nurses especially took extra time to cuddle and hold them when the visitors weren't there. I got there by 7 every morning and nearly always, my son was being held by a nurse. The same with the babies whose parents weren't lucky enough to be there the entire day. The nurses were angels.

What a beautiful story. So heart warming :) So glad they found eachother! So sad no one visited her for 5 months.
As someone who was adopted, this tugs at my heart strings. God bless her! The world needs more of her kind.
Its so great when the system doesn't fail. I attempted to adopt a child several years ago I was fostering and the system failed him...and me. Two weeks prior to it being permanent they came and removed him from my house to reunite with his drug addict and HOMELESS parents. The father of which wasn't even biological. The mother had lost three previous children to the system. A month later I saw his parents still homeless on the street and hopelessly addicted. I tried to find him in the system but no one would give me any info. My only hope is by now he is in his 20s and I hope he still remembers me and how I tried my damndest to love him and give him the life he deserved. (and yes I'm still looking for him) So Tyler if you're out there...... I've always and still love you.
This is such a sad story. I feel so sorry for you and Tyler. I do hope you two can meet again. You must be such a loving person. I wish I could do something! 😢😢😢

As a father myself, I'm always happy whenever I heard or read this kind of story... Thank you for what you did, Nurse Smith... The world needs more people like you..
Addicts of drugs, alcohol and other destructive behaviour- use a condom or dont f**k, if you cant be bothered caring for the result of your intercourse. I think such trash humans need to be put in jail. This girl got lucky, but how many other kids continue to suffer?
All that matters in the end is that they're together. You don't need visitors when there is a giant gift for mom and new daughter
It breaks my heart that there are so many children that don't get adopted... When someone decides they want a baby, I wish their first step would be to decide whether they want to procreate or adopt. So many people never even think about the possibility of adopting, they jump straight into trying to procreate. If everyone who wants a kid, would give some thought about adoption, and only a small percentage decides adoption is actually right for them, we could make a really big difference.
Make sure the deadbeat parents get the bill. That's the least they could do for the kid.
Such a heartwarming story. Lizz and Gisele look like natural born mother and daughter. Gisele is growing into a beautiful little girl just like her Mom! thank you, Lizz, for being such a wonderful human being in both your profession and personal life.
Ita amazing how alike they look in one of the photos. Lots of love. I am also I the process of adopting a girl.keeping Mt fingers crossed.
It's just narration. Please, let's spare this sweet hearted article of political shite.
