There are things that are considered wrong by a lot of people, however, one cannot do anything about them because they don't violate the law. Keeping that in mind, I asked the Bored Panda community to share some examples of what they think should be illegal but is not. Apparently, there are many things!

Here are the responses from our Pandas. What do you think should be illegal but is not? Let me know in the comments!

I pet sit for a friend who just had to have her dog's (Weimaraner) tail docked BECAUSE of continual injury. The vet called it happy tail. The breed has an extremely long and fine tail. So when "Gary" would get excited (which was also a constant) he would wag furiously hitting it against cabinet corners, furniture etc. It was NOT her wish to have to do this because as an adult dog it would be more painful. She tried everything to get the tail healed up to & including wrapping the tail in pipe insulation. As soon as it healed....bam!! opened up and broke the poor guys tail. She hated doing it but the alternative is painful breaks, and blood which every time he injured it splattered blood "Gary DNA" all over. Like ALL OVER floor to ceiling. Now it's Happy Gary! PS: Gary was brought to the Vet every single time he was injured. The procedure was Vet recommended. thumbnail_...01fff2.jpg thumbnail_IMG_2624-60b7bde01fff2.jpg

I agree. It should. And I thought it was illegal everywhere. In the Netherlands that's illegal. Unless of course its for medical reasons. You can get 3 years in jail and a fine up to 20.500 euro. That's about 25,000 dollars.

It illegal in most places are the biggest defenders of this practice is Kennel Clubs because of "breed standards." In some places they have exceptions to this law for working dogs, like sheep or herding dogs, to decrease more serious injuries from predators.

The Kennel Club has a lot to answer for. "Breed standards" have led to animals who needlessly suffer their entire lives.

Many owners that remove tails only do it in areas where dog fighting is prevalent, and they do it because a dog has less balance without a tail and can't be used to fight. Or do I've heard. They normally only do it even they're a couple days old at most because most of the blood vessels haven't formed yet and the nerves are minimal to non-existent. Ear clipping is bad though.

And there are still places that declaw cats. For those who don't know what that incorperates-look at your hand, now imagine your hand-not only without nails-BUT YOURE FIRST KNUCKLE HAS BEEN REMOVED AS WELL!!! It's disgusting! And there are still places that de-fang and sew rattlesnakes mouths shut so they can show them off to kids in a "safe" manner. This prevents them from being able to eat as well as causes them a great deal of discomfort and pain! THESE ANIMALS ARE NOT MENT TO BE SAFE! DONT MUTILATE THEM FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR OWN GREED!!!

We have a cat, but she isn’t declawed. The reason why cats are declawed are mainly for the sake of preventing the cats from a, hurting people and pets with them, b, either not having to get a scratch post or preventing cats from scratching furniture and carpet, and c, because someone says to do it. However, it causes walking impairments to some cats until they learn a way to walk easily. I don’t like it, contrary to popular belief.

It is absolutely awful. I remember my friend telling me their dad got their ears clipped (Dobermans) and I had to look into why. There's no benefit, no point. He ended being horrible to the dogs and sees another dog they got from his ex girlfriend (on and off, hopefully forever off now) as an idiot and insulting her a lot. It's so awful. Purely cosmetic surgeries shouldn't be put on animals. It's one thing since humans can decide themselves (even if the plastic surgery industry is quite awful, for purely cosmetic purposes plastic surgery), but animals really can't. And with it having no benefit, it serves no point.

Many hunting dog breeds have their tails docked at birth because when they are running after birds etc. in thick undergrowth, and a long tail can get caught on things and cause a lot of damage. But for cosmetic purposes, I absolutely agree that this is a bad practice.

Here in Finland it's illegal. I don't understand why in the mightly country of the Brave and Free it's still legal. But actually even worse, I think, is declawing cats and removing vocal cords from dogs. THAT is animal abuse and every person that does that to an animal, should lose their fingers and vocal cords too.

Most people that do it do it because they live in areas where people steal dogs for fighting, and a dog with a removed tail has worse balance and can't fight. They only do it when they're very new puppies (couple days at most) because the vessels and nerves have hardly formed and pain/bleeding is minimal to non-existent. Ear clipping is pointless though.

I don't know why anyone would do that to ears, but Brittany Spaniels usually have bobbed tails. A primary reason is that they hunt in prairie and heavy brush, and would either get injured, or get their tails so full of burrs that they would need to be cut out every evening.

Docking tails was not originally for cosmetic purposes. It was intended for breeds that are prone to breaking their tails, to prevent injury as an adult. (Much less painful when they are days old and the cartilage is still soft)

In a similar vein - as a non-American - its always struck me as kinda odd (abusive?) how standard it is for American males to be mutilated... ahem, I mean... circumcised way before they are able to give consent, when there is no reasonable medical requirement (as long as a man has a good hygiene regime, the 'cleanliness' line o thinking doesn't hold much weight).

It’s sometimes for religious reasons, and some people do it for the “health benefits”. I don’t think there is any health benefits for that that will outweigh the risks.

I used to tkink that too, but in some cases it's for health issues... My dad's boxer had a lot of problems with his tale because it wasn't cut as a puppy, he banged it against everything, it was always hurt and they eventually had to cut it anyway... And the surgery was more painfull and complicated as an adult dog...

Some breeds of dogs have to have their tails shortened because of the possibility of walking impairment. Edit for clarification: I meant for medical reasons. I do not approve of cosmetic shortening and I would beat the everlasting s**t out of someone who does that to their animal for “cuteness” sake. F**k them.

I think that child marriage (marriage below 18) should be illegal with NO exceptions. It creates so much trouble for the kids, yet so many states still have many loopholes. Only a few have a strict ban. NO parental consent, NO exceptions, and KEEP it that way. Sometimes it is used to keep a rapist out of jail because the child is pregnant. There was actually a case, by the way, where a girl's father or mother had her married because her boyfriend got her pregnant while drunk. She only consented because she loved him, and she was happy to be a mother. Sadly, the child miscarried during the wedding, but her folks never got punished for this. Instead, they went to a different state to get consent from a judge. Man, life is wrong!

Regulation is the means by which the wealthy and powerful use government to protect their market share. The notion of a "well-regulated free market" is oxymoronic. As information technology expands, economies are increasingly able to be controlled not by regulation, but by informed choices. So Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Disney, GM, Exxon, etc., urgently convince people that they need more regulation. Absent governmental controls (like 100-year copyrights, frivolous patents, etc.), wealth and power will obey the law of entropy.

I mean, simply stating here, it’s controversial bc while it does give other small cities and states better recognition, it also was enacted bc America was founded by rich white men who did not want the poor white men “interfering”with the government. So if it was created to keep “uneducated” opinions from tainting the presidential vote, is it really still necessary in a society full of much more educated people than there were in the 18th century? Guess it really kind of depends on knowledge extents and educated opinions.

In addition, women should respect men the same way. I'm in high school and just the way people talk to each other... it's so sexual and uncomfortable without the receiver's consent. It doesn't matter the gender, it's the action in general. And before you downvote me, I am a girl

February, too. It's short, nobody likes it, and just to be a pain in the butt, every four years they add a day.

Germany’s age of sexual consent laws: The age of sexual consent in Germany is 14, and it means that a 65 year old man can fully legitimately and legally have sex with a 14 year old girl. How on earth can that be????
