Woman Shares Her Opinion About ‘Non-Traditional’ Women, And The Internet Claps Back

Krista Shanelle is a 29-year-old from Georgetown who writes articles about various topics, especially those involving womanhood, relationships, and social issues. Recently, Shanelle took to Facebook to share her opinion about ‘non-traditional’ women expecting to meet ‘traditional’ men, and how this makes no sense. According to Krista, she hopes to shed light on underground topics, “I started sharing my opinions on relationships for about a year, but I wasn’t consistent with it. I’ve only been doing it consistently for about 6 months. My goal is to make traditional family and relationship values popular again, at least for a small fraction of women and men. I realize that most won’t accept the traditional way,” Krista told Bored Panda.

Krista’s post received a lot of attention on social media, many people agreed with her while some said that she forgets such problems are clear power imbalances between men and women.

Both sides are thrashing strawmen. Who are these women who want a non-traditonal lifestyle for themselves and still want a traditional partner? What would such a relationship even look like? She's in a ménage à trois but the man involved wants his dinner on the plate by 5 pm like a real 50s man? There's a gender neutral term for people who want advantages for themselves while keeping their partners from having the same freedoms: a******s. Guy wants his girlfriend to do all the housework while both have fulltime jobs? A*****e. Girl wants to grow out her armpit hair but insists her boyfriend has to be clean shaven? A*****e. This isn't about feminism, it's about assholery. Everyone can be guilty of it, no matter what dangles between their legs or not.

What on earth does she think a traditional 1950's man is? I think of one who believes he runs the world and his wife because of his gender, is condescending in his affectionate tolerance towards his wife who he views as overly emotional and not a great thinker. One who is authoritarian and makes all the money and all the decisions, and just want a pretty woman to stay home and pamper him. Who wants that man?? I want a partner who I can navigate life *together* with, not just be a helpful component of him navigating his own life.

She means women who claim to want to be "equal" but still demand special treatment, such as feminists who still think men should pay for dates and who won't raise their hands to a woman, even if the woman hits first.

When in the world can we all stop arguing and just...be? With each other. As equals. And friends. Men and women, women and men. We're all the same. Years ago some stupid people decided we weren't, but if we all got together and listened to each other it would easier to sort things out, rather then bashing each other over social media.

She's just suffering from a severe case of "I'm-not-like-other-girls" syndrome - throwing other women under the bus in the hopes that men will see her as one of the "cool" girls. Her argument, if you can call it that, would only make sense if you believe in stereotypes and traditional gender roles. And even then, why in the world would a "non-traditional" woman want a 1950s man?

I'm sorry, but this is just wrong on so many levels. This woman clearly has no idea what being a non-traditional woman means. What woman wants to "describe what real manhood is?" Also, who says that man are to feminine- in my experience only other man. It's also funny how other people in the comments say that she refers to "man paying for everything" but she's not even mentioning money and paying. From her last sentence it seems that she's one of those traditional women who think that women's job is to "respect men" while men job is to "protect and provide". The idea is to respect each other, to protect each other and provide for each other, Shalom. That what a "nontraditional" women want. Too bad you can't see that.

The use of the word "non-traditional" is misleading. What IS traditional? I certainly do not think of the 1950s housewife as traditional! MAYBE my mom did? Or her Mom?? These days, it is not taken for granted that a woman wants to be a stay-at-home-mom or a housewife and it's not taken for granted that she wants to be uber-successful-career woman. I think this article is thought provoking, but doesn't cover all of the proverbial bases and we've got a bit farther to go until the pendulum stops swinging.

Don’t be a hypocrite, you can’t have certain expectations and then change views because of a person’s sex. Be true to yourself and stick with a decision firmly. What is a traditional 1950s man? What's a 1950s woman? Each answer differs by class, race, religion. So I'm confused by her ranting. Is it Provider vs Homemaker? Nowadays I see men staying at home with kids while their wives are the breadwinner, and they're just fine with it because they are a team. It's 2018, we all make our own traditions.

If in place of "chivalry" you think of it as simply courteous, considerate behaviour, whether demonstrated by man, woman, or otherwise, then yes you can expect both. Give everyone the opportunity of equality and expect everyone to treat each other with courtesy, and you don't have to choose one or the other. A man can hold open a door for a woman, as can a woman. I hold doors for anyone. So you get the effect of chivalry, but it comes from all genders.

That’s extremely weak. Does she know what a 1950’s man even is? She’s just trying to get attention by dismissing feminism with her straw men. If she cares so much about social justice, she should look into where that human-hair hairpiece comes from and why that is a slap in the face of feminism.
