My Paintings Are Done Using Nothing But Wine

My friend took this photo while camping in Algonquin Park. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to paint it with baco noir. This wine is so dark that it really brings out the sunset feel for this piece.

Every year tall ships go through Port Colborne (the locks) and I was lucky to be able to take a great photo of one heading out into Lake Erie. I used Cabernet Sauvignon for this piece.

I couldn’t pass up painting a skull or a dragon. I used Shiraz wine for the Dragon and Baco Noir for the skull. I was hoping that they would give enough contrast between the too. I also tried a bit of pointillism for the dragon to make it stand out more.

I painted this from a picture that I took of Jackson-Triggs Winery - Niagara-on-the-Lake. While I was there I took some of their wine to paint this picture with.

I painted this scene to represent waking up in the morning and enjoying a cup of coffee while viewing the lake. The entire painting is a mixture of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

I painted this from a cool place in St. Catharines, Ontario called the Morningstar Mill. I spent a lot of time on the mill itself as well as creating the depth of the trees in the background. I used Merlot for the Mill, Pinot Noir for the trees and Cabernet Sauvignon for the water and stone work.

This is where I work and I take it for granted on how beautiful it is. I used their Cabernet Franc to paint this piece.

I took this photo from the herb garden at my work. That bee was loving all of those flowers that day. I used Gamay and Pinot Noir wine for the background and flowers and used Shiraz for the bee itself.

I loved how blue the baco noir is and wanted to paint a close up piece of the shoreline on a lake. It was tricky trying to create movement with the water and keep the reflection of the weeds coming out of the water.

I found this wine barrel hidden amongst willows trees during my lunch break at work.The brown colour on the barrel is the Pinot Meunier and the pink colour is the Pinot Noir. The back noir is of an older batch of wine and was more on the brown side than the blue side.

These are the doors going into one of the buildings at my work place. I loved the look of them, how they are surrounded by the stone work. The merlot that I had was perfect for this since it was sitting in my fridge for a good 6 months. The lees had enough time to darken and thicken so that I could achieve those darker areas.

I painted this grape vine working its way up the post at the end of the vineyard row. I used Cabernet Shiraz to do the post and Pinot Noir for everything else.
I spent a lot of time trying to create the age lines on the top of the post.

This is a tree that I would see every day heading into my work. Just a lonely tree out in the field. I couldn’t resist the chance to paint it. I used Pinot Meunier to paint the tree and the background and I used Shiraz to add the shading in the tree and the ground.

This isn’t a very big painting (4 x 6″) but I spent a lot of time on it and tried to create detail in the leaves. I used Pinot Noir for most of the painting and went through with Cabernet Sauvignon to add the darker shades.

I follow Stephen Amell on facebook and every Friday he would do a FanArt submission. I thought that it would be a great idea to integrate his winery with his tv character. I used Cabernet Sauvignon which is one of the wines that his winery, Nocking Point Winery, creates. The wine glass tips over producing arrow shaped spills from the wine itself. He added it to the list of other submissions and it received close to 1.7k likes which was great!

This stone bridge is located right by the Morningstar Mill. I loved painting the stone work on it. The baco noir that I used in this painting was from a different batch of wine and as you can see it had a more brown colour than the blue colour that is in the current batch that I have.

I love painting muskoka chairs (Adirondack chairs). This was the first painting that I did of a lake scene. The Pinot Noir really showed that peach/pink colour.
