The Winner Of 2019’s Nobel Peace Prize Had Just Been Announced
The world was eagerly waiting to hear who the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize laureate would be and now, finally, that wait has come to an end. The winner is Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, for his peacemaking deal with longtime enemy Eritrea.
The 43-year-old politician was one of the favorites to win this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. He was also recently congratulated for his role in helping create a powersharing deal in Sudan, after a political crisis that led to the arrest of Omar al-Bashir, who was the ruler of the country for nearly 30 years.
Many people thought that the prize would be awarded to 16-year-old Swedish teenager, eco-warrior, and climate justice activist Greta Thunberg. The Nobel committee refused to comment about not choosing Thunberg as the winner of this year’s prize.
Jakub Janda, the Director of the European Values Center for Security Policy, talked to Bored Panda about this year’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
According to Janda, this year’s nomination was a good choice: “It is a choice that clearly highlights what the Nobel Peace Prize is all about — bringing a political solution to intense conflict and ultimately creating peace. So that is why it is such a good choice”
“I believe pro-democracy citizens in Hong Kong would deserve the [Nobel Peace] Prize as well,” Janda revealed his thoughts about another worthy contender for the award.

The winner of the 100th Nobel Peace Prize was announced at 11 AM CEST (5 AM Eastern Time), after careful deliberation. There were a total of 301 candidates running for 2019’s prestigious award. Among them were 223 individuals and 78 organizations.
Greta Thunberg was one of the favorites to win this year’s prize

“I think what Abiy did with the Eritrea issue was very courageous and remarkable. I think a lot of people have considered that what he has done is worthy of such a recognition. The two countries are no longer in the state of war. Families have been reunited because flights are now running between the two countries. Relations that have been severed for 20 years have been rekindled,” Awol Allo, an associate professor of law at Keele University in the United Kingdom, told the media.
Greta Thunberg has a lot of supporters, but plenty of critics as well
Even though the names of nominators and nominees aren’t revealed for 50 years and we won’t know this year’s full list for half a century, Thunberg was one of the people who had been flagged as favorites to win the nomination. You can read Bored Panda’s previous articles about the teenager here, here, here, here, as well as here.
You can watch Greta Thunberg’s UN speech right here
Thunberg has been causing waves (sometimes literally) around the world for a while now, especially in the last few months, with her trip across the Atlantic Ocean using a zero-emission yacht and her fiery yet controversial speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit.
The Nobel Committee refused to comment about not awarding the prize to Greta Thunberg
Some people are very supportive of her message that world leaders ought to be doing more to fight climate change. Others believe her intentions are good, but the tone she’s taking with politicians is too aggressive to bring about real change.
A third category of people thinks that Thunberg ought to be fighting global warming in practical terms, instead of speaking empty platitudes. While a fourth group of people criticizes the teenager because they don’t believe in climate change and the current global ecological crisis at all. While finding common ground between all of these positions is difficult, it doesn’t mean that we should all start shouting and yelling at each other. A civilized discussion is possible. All it takes is some patience and willingness to find compromises.

Good! I think Greta's great for speaking up (thought I'm not a fan of her comment that her childhood was ruined. That grates on me considering she had was most likely a very ideal childhood unlike a lot of children. It comes off as very conceited and spoiled) but she has done nothing for actual peace. This gentleman has.
The lass has done nothing practical apart from drawing attention using theatrics. Thank goodness the judging panel for the Nobel Peace Prize is rational. Besides, what has the action of the lass anything to do with peace? This is especially glaring because the speech given by the lass is filled with hatred and vindictiveness. We should all do our part to save our environment, but one should never berate others when the individual has yet to do enough.
I think she has a lot of potential to grow, and while her speeches are flawed, she’s very brave to speak out to so many people and raise awareness. I would not be able to talk so openly with so many people out there. She might not have allowed for solutions for those who are already aware and accepting of the issue, but she pushed a lot of climate change deniers to inform themselves on it. I think people as ignorant as that deserve her directness and honesty, but to have the same attitude for others around the issue is pushing it too far. I say it’s impressive that she’s done so much at that age and deserved other awards, but not the Nobel Prize award. Don’t get me wrong, there are exceptions like teenage Malala who spoke out for education for girls even after she almost died from getting shot by ISIS, but young people like that are exceptions.
Have read any articles on her parents? and she does have some mental disorders which should be addressed
I found no hate in Greta's words - maybe you are mistaking passion, anger, and sadness for hate.
Mary Jo, the last I checked, the word lass is present in all reputable dictionaries. In as far as I know, not one deems the word derogatory.
Christina Uhlir, the irony is that you justifying her "hatred" and "vindictiveness" is truly what is called despicable.
Frankenfrog, I do my part, more than others. I simply do not berate others for not doing their part. I do not have that silly sense of self entitlement.
"We all should do our part to save our environment...." , but "WE" are NOT doing it!!!!! That's why her "hatred" and "vindictiveness" is justified!!!! Only those who do nothing are judging her; simply despicable!!!!
Lass. That's all I need to see to know you don't take her seriously.

And what has YOUR lazy ass done, Xavier? I smell severe jealousy
Exactly Katrina! Greta happens to be taking a merited position, but like myself at 16, and most people at that age, she's a melodramatic sullen kid.
No, she is not melodramatic or sullen, just the opposite!! She is realistic and engaged. Oh yea, Bruce, what are you all mentally sound, judgmental, apathetic people doing for the good of our planet???? yes, nothing, just criticizing those who do.
No shes not. She actually cares about the environment. And you know she will work hard on climate change for many years to come.
blugeagua, someone can be, at the same time both arguing a position that's fundamentally valid, yet also be a sullen, melodramatic kid. She also is wrong when she suggests that 'endless economic growth' is the problem. e.g. Millions of acres of deforestation of carbon-storing forestland in Africa gets deforested entirely b/c poor rural Africans have to cut trees down just to have firewood to boil their water and cook food and keep warm. Economic growth/aid/development could be approaches like selling them solar powered stoves and heaters, and that economic growth could save huge numbers of trees from getting cut down while helping these people. Growth isn't necessarily the enemy. Greta doesn't know that, b/c she's 16.
Do you honestly believe that Africans chop down millions of acres of rain forest each year to cook with? You are delusional, most Africans live in houses in towns and cities like most other people, some are off the grid but we are talking a few hundred people, the rainforest is being destroyed not for the wood but for the land, huge Western corporations use the cleared land to produce palm oil "look on most packet foods in your homes" you will see palm oil as a main ingredient, the use of it is highly restricted in Europe but not banned unfortunately, in the US it is used quite freely because it is cheap to produce due to the amount of rainforest that is cut down each year by Western companies, Gretas loss of childhood has more to do with the amount of time she has spent getting politicians to take notice of what is happening, economic growth is killing the planet just as she says, we are obsessed with material goods that we don't need
The reason there are "poor Africans" is BECAUSE of the relentless hunt for 'endless economic growth', including colonialism! Greta's analytic capabilities are lightyears ahead of yours.
hang on for get downvoted. people Don't like those who speak against her. you got good point here.
What is the good point? That she got depressed or that she grew up in a western democracy?
I agree, she's bringing much needed attention, but she's not done anything many others haven't all ready done. The difference is she is 16 so the media gives her publicity. As for the ruined childhood, I'm guessing she means the happiness of childhood, the looking forward to a bright future, is what has been ruined. When I was a kid I worried when war broke out in the Falklands for a few months, but I never worried that the planet was dying on me. I could see how that kind of worry could screw up your childhood.
That kind of worry can screw up not just her childhood but everyone else's life, future which all those "wise" who criticize her don't even try to realize.
upvote
Greta hasn't contributed one iota to anything worthy of a Peace Prize .. but neither did Barack Obama and he somehow was awarded one ....
Stop bashing her already, for the sake of our own survival, please and do what she has done, no matter if you are rich or not, more voices, the better.
She is using her childhood to do what adults should be doing. It's not spoiled or conceited. You completely missed her point. Which actually proves her point.

General Troll Warning - again!
thanks for the heads up that you are here
Its the Nobel Peace Prize and he made peace happen between his country and another..... That girl didnt deserve it
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
You do realise she didn't nominate herself for it, right? You sound so hateful and bitter
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
The girl deserved it alright, BUT this is not a competition and there is absolutely no way that the Norwegian Parliament would opt to burden a child with this prestigious prize. Let us all wait another 20, 30, 40 or 50 years for that.
She deserved it? For what exactely? Compared to what the other recipients of the price did? That would mean every teenager who is even remotely politically active deserves the price. Gathering media attention doesn't really count.
I don't think Nobel prize work that way. You should present your act in work and have result. This girl is a representative and spoke person. She's not technically result in something. Maybe influencer is more like her area. But, no, not Nobel prize.
You mean when she's completely forgotten?
Know why she didn't get it? Because she didn't deserve it. Basically all she's doing is voicing her opinion on the issue. Well a lot of other people "voice" their opinion on it as well and you don't see them getting one.
Climate change is not an opinion, it's a fact.
Is she DOING anything other than whining? Nope.
Tres D, this is a tired and incomplete explanation. Yes the climate is always changing, however, it is NEVER changed at the rate it has over the last 100 years, especially the last 30 years. It is all about the math, and the math does not lie.
climate always changed not just recently
She's just voicing her opinion on the matter. Never said Climate change was an opinion.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
Only in the way that the climate has been changing non stop since the beginning of time. Half of North America was covered in ice at one time. You know, before cars were invented. What happened?
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
She is doing something "besides whining" - she is raising awareness. There is only so much a single person can do. But if you get others to realize that we will be in big trouble if we continue like this, you can actually make a big difference. Even if you don't like the way she is doing it. Also, there are other things that she did and still does - she is vegan (which has a big impact on your ecological footprint, whether you may like it or not), and she travels by train or even by boat, even if it takes days or weeks to get to her destination. That's something most people are way too convenient for.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
I believe it's scientific fact. But I don't believe 'talk' or 'speak louder than other' will get the job done. That's why what she's done is opinion. She doesn't walk the walk.
👍👍👍
Tres D you are talking about Canada, its nothing to do with the constantly changing climate because it changes in both directions, the change Greta means is the warming of the planet over the last 50 years, it has changed as much in that time as it did in the previous 300 years, it's not a sustainable change, the earth isn't recovering because its too much in a short amount of time, as for the peace prize, I'll bet that Greta isn't interested in it, she'd rather world leaders take notice and do something positive about changing the direction we are going, because we don't have 50 years left unless we change in a big way, but we have been told this for 50 years already and we didn't listen, there will not be another Titanic because there won't be another iceberg
That's the problem: why only ONE person is acknowledged???
That guy definitely deserved it, a lot of people are nominated all the time
The Nobel is supposed to be based in large part on someone having a lifetime of deeply helpful work towards a cause, so by it's very terms a 16 year old like Greta shouldn't win. Unsurprisingly, the thought-free-far-left is saying she should anyway. I imagine Greta will work on the climate change issue for many decades, and one day it likely will be appropriate to award her some sort of lifetime achievement award - but by then the thought-free-far-left will be on to some other person who at that time is still a teenager - whom they will claim should win a lifetime achievement award at that time.
Yet Obama got it after 9 months of presidency. I like Obama, but that one really bugged me. He'd hardly had time to do anything.
No, he hardly had time for starting military offenses....
How can there be peace on the devastated planet? Greta can work on the climate change issues for MANY decades??? Are you, the thought-free-far-right sure there still be the planet?

So as some of you keep saying that a noble prize is a lifetime award, I don't know where it says that it is in anyway, if however it is then Greta would be eligible, the fact that she is 16 means nothing, it is still her lifetime, the politician who brokered peace between two nations at war, as much as I believe he deserves the prize some could say that he only did it because it was his country that was at war and that he had a personal agenda (private interest) to stop the war, as much as I admire him for what he has achieved he saved two small countries, Greta is trying to save the world while still a child, she has understanding far beyond what most people in charge of a country have, the people considered for a noble prize are there for a very simple reason, they deserve it, regardless of age or how long they have been involved, they are considered by better people than us to have contributed so much they deserve recognition for that, age is not important
Greta is a puppet anyway, I'm happy it didn't go to her.
This is not a group you want to be a part of, past Nobel Peace Prize winners that were actually horrible: Aung San Suu Kyi, Lê Duc Tho, Elihu Root, Aristide Briand, Cordell Hull, Henry Kissinger, Yasser Arafat,
And many more that were good.
👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
Obama.,.you forgot Obama.
So little about the *actual winner* in this piece.
Ahmed is a great choice! But why not just write about the actual recipient of the price? I don't see a reason for the Greta Thuneberg - addition to this article? She is a teenager without any political background or ties who spent time on a sailboat and then marched up to a microphone and gathered media attention. That has NOTHING to do with actually doing anything for peace. Yeah, it was nice, but nothing we haven't seen before. Please give Ahmed his dues instead of just copying facebook drama.
Gretta ...to even be considered is as bad as Obama actually getting one!!! And just as laughable. Time to grow up and quit being a publically traded pawn.
"I'm asking you to believe; not in my ability to bring about change - but in yours." - Barack Obama - Wishful thinking on his part, isn't it, Dean?
Why should This little girl who does nothing but complain and talk condescending my to adults get a prize? Maybe she should talk to China and India about their pollution, or pick up ocean trash or do something useful other than make obnoxious faces.
She is not doing nothing, it is you Cindy. Oh, I'm sorry, you are doing something: criticizing.
Greta has done absolutely nothing for peace why was she even nominated. Did she have friends on the nominating committee?
She's just whining about how bad adults are blah blah. She could maybe start by living in a tent not creating many carbon emissions. Or picking up all the garbage in the sea.
Why did Barack Obama aka Barry Soetero get the Nobel Peace Prize? For what? What did he do?? Nada. Zippo. Zilch. Even the Committee regrets giving it to him. Google it.
Thank god she didn’t win. She’s just a political ploy for NWO agenda.
I'm not meaning to hate or anything, but have you seen the video where Greta Thunberg was asked two LEGIT SIMPLE QUESTIONS and she couldn't answer because she didn't have a script? I mean, I'm starting to think people are using her as a mouthpiece for left-wing climate activists. In fact, she could be used to bring pressure onto world leaders and political figures. Another thing is that Greta Thunberg is only like, sixteen-ish. Can't she at least have a normal childhood??!!!! No offence, but sometimes Thunberg seems a little too much like an attention-seeking, non-rational... brat. I'm sorry, it's true.
I agree with you but people don't wanna hear it
It's not true. Humanity needs more of those "brats" to clean up our planet.
fuck you ur a grown adult wise up she is a child
awwwwwww......your childish ad hom surrender is accepted........................again
Zero emission yacht? Was it made of reeds and jungle twine the rigged with sails of spider webs and propelled by her own butt gas? I'd love to see the carbon footprint for the build of that little beauty! Complete rubbish!
👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
Also the "zero emission" didn't mean anything in the end, because the yacht's crew had to be flown in... by plane. Just like the politicians Thunberg rallied against.
Shes good but not that good.. try next time
What a boring old award ceremony. Looking through the previous winners and I stopped at "the european union." I mean wtf?!! We should all strive for peace and not be awarded for it. That's like rewarding a postman for delivering letters. Scrap this "competition" stat.
Agree 100%.
Great! I'm sorry, but she has not done anything to deserve such an award. I won't get into the whole wrongness of what her parents are doing with her, and her mental health being affected. It's nice to see younger people stand up and speak out about these issues. But SHE has done NOTHING but go viral for her overly emotional speech.
No way she should have won the prize, but she had done a huge amount to draw attention to the cause. Her being 16 has caught the media's attention. Of course it drives the dinosaurs mad, but we just have to wait for them to die off.
Her going viral, and her "overly emotional" speech, has helped to draw MASSIVE attention to the subject of climate change and brought it to the forefront of the media. There have been huge strikes all over the globe because of her - she has been an incredible inspiration.

Hi Captain Marvellous. The people posting toxic comments here are from a troll factory. They come out en masse whenever there are posts about Greta or Climate Change. I believe there are actually two separate sources, one enjoying the fall weather in Leningrad, doing Putin's bidding now that he too has begun to criticize Greta. Do not forget that the petroleum industry in Russia is one of the largest in the world. The biggest Russian oil company is Rosneft followed by Lukoil, among the worst greenhouse gas emitters in the world. The other troll group stems from the US and Saudi fossil fuel industry.
I'd like to know who is funding Greta.
since obama won this prize has lost its value
Thinking Greta would actually win is absurd. Remember, you have to actually DO something to win. Oh wait... Obama won... nevermind.
Congrats getting the nomination but the commotion is gonna die down after a while regardless of how radical it seems in the beginning. Besides, her childhood is hardly ruined and devastated, it's an insult to children going hungry or scared for their lives in war torn countries. Honestly, standing up and berating politicians? Really hardly a skill, people do it all the time. I have more respect for the people who really cared and devoted themselves in researching alternative energy sources or innovating methods to help climate change. Holding up a sign and going 'booo you terrible people' just seems counter productive and kinda useless? Idk, she really doesn't deserve the prize though, definitely not over the scientists and engineers working on actually making a difference
I agree. DO something tangible.
"the tone she’s taking with politicians is too aggressive to bring about real change." seriously? Since when would being touchy-feely and sweet bring about a change in the monumental issue of the destruction of our planet? Speaking to WORLD LEADERS cannot be like speaking to a room full of kindergarteners. And, no, I did not think she was up for the Nobel - she has only just started her career, give her time.

Please help downvote all the trolls, they have no business here
Monika Soffronow Downvote the trolls? Because thinking this young girl is overwhelmed, that she doesn't deserve this and that she's being used is trolling? Perhaps you need to look up the word troll, and stop trying to act like a fascist by trying to silence opposing views? YOU have no business here if you think that silencing others, even if you're WRONG, is the way to do things.

OK, you got it!
What western people don't know the fact is different on the ground. The border in all lines are closed 7 months ago. The border was opened only for 1 month. The border is back to the state of No war No peace where military has been intensified again. It is best joke of the year.
The prize should goes to one who deserves it. And it's not that spoiled girl.
anyone can be mad at me for saying this but there is NO WAY Greta deserved it. I'm glad she didn't win
why Boyan Slat not in the list? He clearly contributes directly to the environment.
He deserves it.
Greata sailed on a boat bought and paid for by people with money. She probably flew back home while others sailed the boat back. My belief is this. Greata was used by certain adults. She was brain washed to some degree into believing what they said. She was coached. In all honesty, I feel bad for her.
TRUMP SHOULD HAVE WON.
Why??
The Nobel Peace prize is political, not for merit. Yasser Arafat won it, as did - very nearly - Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. Essentially, announce you're going to kill millions and then say you won't do it after all (honestly or not) and you've got the prize.
Congratulations to Greta Thunberg on her nomination -- that in itself is remarkable. Huge congratulations to Abiy Ahmed! About 15 years ago, an artist in a studio adjacent to the graphic design shop where I worked introduced us to three young men who were part of the "Lost Boys of the Sudan" airlift. I learned much about that country's unrest. When I was in the hospital two years ago, many of the workers were from Eritrea, of which I knew nothing but had many questions. Everyone I asked had come into the U.S. through Atlanta, and the hospitals there offered a training program, which is how they came to be hospital workers in Denver.
A lot of people are swallowing what the hysterical media are serving up, there were a few hundred nominations from all walks of life and the panel picked a worthy winner.... Why would anyone not just see it for what it is.
@Katrina B. is just another troll. They appear en masse whenever the climate crisis or Greta is in a post here. Please, do not get fooled.
and then you realized you were the troll..................
I cannot believe how toxic this comment section is. All you grown adults are sitting here and depositing your hate on this 16 year old kid. You say she is "overly emotional," that she isn't doing anything to help, that she's a puppet, that she doesn't deserve the prize, and yet, I am willing to bet that she is doing 100x more than you are to preserve this dying earth and bring attention to this scary and all too real problem. She has inspired massive strikes across the globe and done an incredible amount to bring climate change to the media's attention. It's not that she doesn't deserve the prize: she's just not ready for it yet. She has only started gaining attention and beginning to make a change recently, and I'm very sure that in the coming years she will indeed win the prize. She's passionate and brave, and she's doing all she can. (1/2)
Chill. All she has done is bring in media attention. No, you don't deserve Nobel prize for that.
(2/2) Let me tell you, as someone born into this generation and faced with such a terrifying, mass extinction event as climate climate change, I'm so scared for my future. The fact that these middle aged, stony faced politicians don't care enough to make the difference that they are capable of creating makes me think that we are indeed going to die along with our planet from a disaster that we are capable of preventing. Greta is a ray of hope and an inspiration to me and everybody else in my generation. She is showing us that we can make a change and that we can stand up and speak against the people who refuse to help. Her, along with people like Autumn Peltier, are the leaders of this generation and the ones who will guide us into safety. She is doing so much, and she is helping the rest of the world see that they can do as much as her too.
Calm down. What most people here in the comment section wrote is that compared to people like Ahmed, she really didn't do much to warrant being a candidate for the price. There are many kids out there who are politically active. She just gathered media attention, that's the only difference. Literally just stating your oppinion in front of a microphone is really not enough to compare to what Ahmed did in and for his country.

Sorry, but fight for climate change already started far before your generation. It doesn't as simple as flip out hand, because like it or not, we are too dependant on fossil energy. The impact is not on environmental level only, but economic, social, etc. That's what young generation fail to understand. They think we ruin their future. No, old generation tried to build your future. It just has side effect, and now we are working on it. So, stop being like spoiled child who sulk when they don't get their way.

Greta Thunberg and Bernie Sanders should have a contest to see who can out-chastise each other.
Excuse me? At least Sanders doesn't just scream about problems without working out solutions. Thunberg just drones on about how shameful the situation is, but offers nothing beyond that.
Typical, she complains about skipping school and wants a medal.
Thank god the Nobel Peace commision has a set of functioning brains.. Greta Thunberg didnt stay in school long enough to learn about eh Evolution of the planet, and that the planet is 4.5 billion years ago, and it is still evolving.. When you look at places like Chernolble and see that it has mostly been retaken by mother nature.............................................................................................................................. YES WE DO NEED TO REMOVE PLASTIC from being prodcued, but as for everything else, look to the truth, and not what the "paid for" scientists are saying.. There is a TON of misinformation about "climate change" and Climate Change is NOT anything we can stop.. Remember this, Climate Change also killed the dinosaurs, and the planet continued to elvolve
There is a lot of misinformation about Climate Change and you seem to have bought all of it.
Many Nobel Peace Prizes awarded..... still no lasting peace. - "We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. TRUE humanity does not allow us to impose such suffering on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will NOT find peace." - Albert Schweitzer, German protestant clergyman, music scholar, philosopher, physician....and the Nobel Peace Prize recipient, October 30, 1953.
you should ALL be ashamed of yourself she is a child your fucking adults!
and?
fuck off troll
I downvoted you. Speaking to world leaders can not be like "angry child". That is why no world leaders take her seriously. Because she looks like a sulken teenager.
Too bad that EVERY SINGLE thing she said has been proven to be 100% false.

you are dismissed
Look it up
Personally, I think that promoting peace around the globe, is a major contribution. Dealing with climate change is an effort which all heads of state should be concentrating on. Personally, I think that Greta lacks karma. She doesn't cuddle a face that will attribute to "love at first sight", a phenomenal curiosity.
Thank you! I'm glad there are a few sane people left in this world. Besides, all that girl does is wag a finger in your face reading a script. Hardly worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. I do feel bad for her though. I think her parents are using her.

Wag your tail, troll, you can't hide it.
Very constructive...
As a high school English teacher. My vote would be for Greta!!!! You go, young lady! I hope that my daughter has your presence of mind when she is your age!
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Swedish industrialist, inventor, and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel, along with the prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature. Since March 1901, it has been awarded annually (with some exceptions) to those who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses" Nobel held 356 different patents, dynamite and gelignite being the most famous. The synthetic element nobelium was named after him. After reading a premature obituary which condemned him for profiting from the sales of arms, he bequeathed his fortune to institute the Nobel Prizes. (Wikipedia)
I wonder if Tony Stark is based off Nobel.
Under no circumstance should the burden of a Nobel Peace Prize be placed on the shoulders of a child.
You mean like Malala Yousafzai? She was only one year older. Though I agree that Abiy Ahmed very much deserved it.
Please, stop with the excuse. If she deserves it, she deserves it. But she's not. So stop like the winner doesn't deserve it.
I do believe she will do great things in her life, but this is not her time yet... Experience in life will also give her wisdom and knowledge which may eventually lead her to the Nobel Peace Prize. But even if it doesn't, she'll still be a change agent in the future.

I respect Greta so much, I'm so grateful for what she's doing for my generation and the ones to come. I was lucky enough to see her speak in my town last week and hearing her speak almost made me cry. But the Nobel peace prize is very specifically for making peace, which is just a different category than the work she's doing. She definitely deserves such an honor, but it's like giving a basketball player a baseball award

Also “Others believe her intentions are good, but the tone she’s taking with politicians is too aggressive to bring about real change.” Fuck that, conservative politicians are the problem. Now isn’t the time to pretend this is a non-partisan issue. The right wing has been fighting efforts to combat climate change for my whole lifetime. We need to be confronting our leaders that are in the way otherwise we’re going to make the same amount of change we’ve made in the last decade. Lots of awareness, but very little effort.

Of course that a black dude has to win. The world wouldn't given such prize to um... just a kid and a female kid no-less. Maybe if she were black... You can all hate me, but the truth is that black people tend to feed on sympathy from others (mostly from the white race), they're self-made victims even if a mighty white man abolished their slavery. It doesn't matter how much we've given to them, they'll never have enough. Folks, we've offer them equality, but they want superiority above all races. And no matter if you don't believe me, that's what's up with them. Racism or not racism involved.
You are right, we don't belive you. Because that entire paragraph was cringeworthy bullsh*t. Thunberg didn't win because compared to what Ahmed did in and for his country, she had no chance. Please go home with your racism, thank you.

Pretty sure it should have been Trump. But of course that's the world most inconvenient truth for this crowd.
The same Trump that this week removed troops giving Turkey free reign to bomb the Kurds an set plans to conquer parts of Libia in motion? And then wanted to help Erdogan find a "humane solution" making him sound like he was talking about humanely killing those people? That Trump?

Greta doesn't need a noble prize. She's way bigger than the stupid Noble prize. Global Warming is real and it's a real threat for human future survival. Global warming has already threatening small nation's such as Kiribati, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands etc and already shows signs of change in our global atmosphere. Increasing temp and high tights.etc.
take your soapbox and go to another street corner please

This comment is hidden. Click here to view.

Personally, I think that promoting peace around the globe, is a major contribution. Dealing with climate change is an effort which all heads of state should be concentrating on. Personally, I think that Greta lacks karma. She doesn't cuddle a face that will attribute to "love at first sight", a phenomenal curiosity.
Thank you! I'm glad there are a few sane people left in this world. Besides, all that girl does is wag a finger in your face reading a script. Hardly worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. I do feel bad for her though. I think her parents are using her.

I do believe she will do great things in her life, but this is not her time yet... Experience in life will also give her wisdom and knowledge which may eventually lead her to the Nobel Peace Prize. But even if it doesn't, she'll still be a change agent in the future.
