“No Vacancy” is an ongoing series of photography depicting abandoned hotel interiors that have sat vacant for five to thirty years. Photographer Samantha VanDeman travels across the USA, mainly the states of Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, New York and Alabama, shooting the abandoned hotels frozen in time.
According to the artist, her photos are never staged. The staging would take away the element of wonder which is so crucial in photography and art itself. Sometimes the rooms look unusually set in the photos, but it is because urban explorers have gone there before and moved the stuff around.
Samantha VanDeman fulfills a sacred mission of an artist to explore and save precious moments, which cannot be saved in any other means only art. Her photographs are great reminders of how fragile and temporary is human life and it’s doings.
