30 People Shame Those Who Refuse To Wear A Mask Due To Their Own Stupid Reasons
Covid-19 continues to rage across the planet, yet some people are still hotly debating about whether or not to wear a face mask and if they’re at all effective. With tempers rising, some concerned citizens have taken to posting photos online and giving others darn good reasons why you should wear a mask.
From guards who wear masks half the day to 95-year-old grandparents who don’t complain about having a hard time breathing, these people are doing their part in slowing down the spread of the coronavirus. Scroll down, have a look, and upvote your fave reasons why there’s no excuse not to wear a mask.
Bored Panda reached out to Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, and spoke to him about mask-wearing, how safe it is, and which groups of people tend to wear masks more. Scroll down to read his insights.

"I have seen more mask wearing (probably around 80%) in general in Northern California where I live and work as we have recently surged in COVID-19 cases in California and in the US. However, mask wearing still has a lot of regional variation in the USA, depending, unfortunately, on political affiliation," Dr. Chin-Hong told us.
"More Democrats wear masks compared with Republicans based on a recent poll here," he stressed that some Americans see masks as an affront to personal freedom.
"This is because of the powerful metaphor that some of our national leaders have presented by not wearing them consistently, and even demonizing masking. It is astonishing—and sad—that masks, a tried a true public health and medical intervention has become politicized. It is also interesting to know from data and personal observation that men wear masks less frequently than women and it gives us an opportunity to try to understand more."
Ha ha! Not a chance with mine either. I get enough injuries just playing with my cat.
Load More Replies...I actually like the fact that the kitty was masked and included in the family photo. That means it was truly a family member.
Me too! This family obviously cared for their cat very much.
Load More Replies...man holding the cat has biggest balls, if flu didn't kill him, i bet the cat plotted to :D
So when did the cat in that photo decide to murder his entire family? Because we all know that's the aftermath, right?
Awe...glad his 9 lives were being protected during that flu thingy 100 year's ago!!
*NEWS REPORT-Y VOICE* for the first time in an ever, a cat has descended from heven instead of hell. eVeRy0nE hAvE a PaRtY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk to them about it. Your cat shouldn't need a mask IF ITS AN INDOOR CAT. He or she might be willing to comply.
I don't think that's a mask, it's the cat's markings. You can see its nose.
I've never seen an employee of a shop collapsing because of a lack of oxygen. Only customers drop to the floor due to a temper tantrum.
We also wanted to double-check if there aren't any downsides to wearing masks for extended amounts of time. "There is absolutely no medical reason not to wear a mask for an extended period of time. In the health care setting, we have donned masks for extended periods long before COVID-19. When your surgeon operates on you, she or he and the staff in the operating room wear them for hours with no problem," Dr. Chin-Hong said.
"If there was a problem with too much carbon dioxide, do you think the team will be alert enough to operate on your body? We have also used masks on many patients with lung disease such as cystic fibrosis with no problems. The only reasons not to wear a mask to protect yourself and your community is if you don’t have a nose or a mouth."
He continued: "For general community use, fit is more important than mask type just like trying on a pair of jeans. If you feel claustrophobic wearing a traditional mask or if others need to see your facial expressions (e.g., for the hearing impaired) you can try a face shield or a transparent mask. Don’t give up finding the right fit. Plus they come in cool designs now too!"
According to the expert, surgical masks should be changed once every day. "An alternative is to keep a stash of 5-7 and 'quarantine' the masks that you are not using (each in a paper bag) as long as they are structurally sound. Keep the clean side clean at all times (the part next to your nose and mouth) and handle the mask by the ear fasteners if at all possible. If you have a cloth mask, you can wash it regularly in warm or hot water. You can just wipe down a face shield daily."
Wearing masks is becoming compulsory in some countries again. For example, France has made wearing masks in all indoor public spaces mandatory from Monday, July 20, and plans to fine anyone refusing to wear one 135 euros (that’s nearly 155 dollars). Some countries are thinking of following suit.
However, there’s some good news, too! The Guardian reports that Oxford University and a Chinese team have both reported that they provoked immune responses to the coronavirus in vaccine trials. There’s still a long way to go yet but there are hopes that a working vaccine could be developed by the start of 2021.
But hold your horses because even if the vaccine could be created so quickly, it would still take a long time to make it available to everyone worldwide. So let’s be cautiously optimistic.
Let’s hop back to mask-wearing. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone cover their faces with cloth in public, with some exceptions. The CDC points out that children younger than 2 years old shouldn’t wear “cloth face coverings,” nor should anyone who has trouble breathing or is unconscious.
You can read the CDC’s considerations in detail right here.
Johns Hopkins University states that there are 14.7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections worldwide; 3.83 million of these are in the United States, according to the latest numbers.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that researchers found that men are more likely to refuse to put on a mask because they “shameful, not cool” and see it as a sign of weakness.
You'll probably never see this but congratulations on your new son. May you both be happy & healthy for all time.

I guard a marijuana shop 12 hours a day 5 days a week standing outside in all this gear. You can put on a mask for 10 minutes.
Obviously you do your job well but you'd think the patrons of a marijuana shop would be a little more 'chilled'.
For those of you not in the UK, Jason is a very funny comedian. Look him up on YouTube.
But you just know these fucking assholes don't wear condoms or sunscreen. But I'm sure they were sunglasses because they think it makes them look cool. Masks are 100% customizable. I wear one that has a dog's nose and mouth on it. It's fucking awesome. It makes people smile and pay me lots of compliments. That makes ME smile! Turns out I wear a mask to BE selfish, haha! :-p
Also Karen, stop being dicks to service and wait staff. We're just as scared as anyone else, but here we are trying to tell you how to plug in your iPhone.

If anything, this pandemic has made everyone way more annoying. Pro mask, anti mask, everyone, they all are beyond annoying.
Allow me to counter with we wouldn't need pro-mask people if anti-mask people would just grow up an wear one. So getting rid of the anti-mask group would get rid of both.
Yeah, pandemics tend to be annoying. And people trying to save lives are sooo annoying, aren't they?
If you think *everyone* has become more annoying, it's probably because you became more irritable.
This pandemic has done a great job of showing who's a selfish ass and who actually has compassion for others plus common sense.
When you get to my age people are generally annoying regardless of masks. It just becomes like a constant background irritation.
I'm a hairstylist and I have asthma and a permanent weak right lung from having pneumonia and bronchitis so much when I was younger. My doc told me that I technically don't have to be nor should I be at work, however, I need the routine. I already get hot as hell cutting hair and wearing a mask, not to mention for 8 hours, makes it 10x hotter. I would very much prefer not to wear one because one of my biggest pet peeves is being hot and sweating but I WILL wear one and continue to wear one for the safety of myself and others. When I'm shopping in stores and it's hot, the back of my ears are hurting and I have a pounding headache, I will still wear one. People need to stop bitching, get over themselves and just wear an effing mask. If people would just do what is asked of them then we'd probly get through this a lot faster.
I was born with asthma, work in a hot restaurant kitchen, have to get out in triple digit weather to deliver pizza, and I still wear my mask. I also at one point had a collapsed lung. My reason for wearing a mask is far more important than my discomfort. I wear a mask to protect my aunt who is on dialysis, my father who is a kidney transplant patient with spinal stenosis, and my other aunt who has cancer. I also wear a mask just to protect my fellow human beings from a very dangerous virus.
If you live in Florida/Texas/California, I’m sorry that you have to deal with the dangerous insensitivity. Most of all, I really hope that you and your loved ones stay healthy and sane.
Thank you for your support and I do happen to live in Texas.

On one hand, it's a political issue and that's bad enough. On the other hand, it's a common sense issue which is just as bad. There are people who refuse to believe the medical experts, who refuse to believe that wearing a mask protects others. It's tragic.
There are people with severe anxiety problems -- severe as in: part of an active treatment program, diagnosed by mental health professionals, and unable to work because of this mental illness -- whose condition is worsened by a mask. Face shields are less confining and often less intrusive. This a tiny, tiny part of our population. Like people with support animals, the person has a serious mental illness. (Next time you see someone with "support animal", tell them you are sorry they have such severe mental health illness they need a support animal. Ask if it helps decreasing anxiety when leaving home. Remind them that like a wheelchair, a support animal is an indication of a disability. ) I say this as a person with severe mental illness, as defined above. Thankfully, I do need either accommodation. There isn't any other medical condition worsened by wearing a mask, that I know of. Comments or corrections?
Thank you for bringing this up. I'm part of this group and I constantly feel under attack. Unfortunately, the face shield is not an option for me. I have had people get nasty when I say I can't and then get the well my so and so has ptsd and they mask.
"People with asthma are more at risk for COVID-19 complications because they already have damage to their lung tissue or over-reactive airways." We are more likely to get pneumonia and develop more serious complications. Respiratory illnesses are hell; I go to great lengths to avoid them. First responders and medical care professionals wear masks for their own protection, but follow more stringent standards -- learn how to protect yourself! I am alone, family is far away; staying healthy is a priority. Wearing a mask IS a priority - it is part of understanding my health risks and weaknesses. Using mild asthma or anxiety as an excuse is ridiculous. Those of us who face these chronic illnesses everyday are frustrated by your ignorance. Worse, you are increasing my chance of getting sick! ........ if nothing else, consider "love thy neighbor"

Maybe if people showed some compassion for people the country wouldn't be the absolute shit show that it is today.
You may consider me "out right aggressive," but I am well informed and knowledgeable. Why would I be compassionate to those whose actions contribute to the worsening of the pandemic? Are you part of the problem or the solution? Your argument is weak, a manipulation of words to support your beliefs. Are there any other reputable sources who agree? Do you show compassion to others whose actions put all of us at risk, like drunk drivers? If you or someone you love gets ill, will you still be compassionate to those who put you at risk? Do you expect compassionate care from those follow the guidelines? Do you know what if feels to be unable to breath? Yeah, you would consider me nasty, but do you know how many people thank me for speaking out?
Eva Sawyer: Oh, please. The way people have stretched that "breathing problem" issue deserves no respect. In so many cases it's just a convenient excuse and needs to be called out every time. My sister-in-law has had asthma her whole life, spent some time in oxygen tanks as a kid. She wears a mask, and I will add she wears an N95 mask when there are raging fires in her area, which has been the case the last three years in a row. Wearing an N95 mask for days didn't trigger an asthma attack during those fires, it kept her from having one. I also have a brother who is on meds for supraventricular tachycardia. He wear s a mask all day because he is a welder, and has been doing that job for 30 years. He at least has to wear an N95 mask if not something more complicated than that. He hasn't passed out either.I am going to say this and never back down: if they can wear a mask so can the majority of Americans. Don't give me that lack of compassion nonsense.
It's completely embarrassing to have such a bone-head running our country (US). Now he's changed his tune and is saying masks are patriotic. I can't wait to see what the trumpnuts are going to say to explain their "change of heart". November can never come fast enough.
I know a HEAVILY immuno-compromised person- chronic asthma, as well as few other things, and she wears a mask EVERYDAY, because she knows it will help to stop the spread of Covid-19. How is it hard to understand? Mask= Less likely to spread your germs to others.
Someone should make a meme where its says: if someone can wear a mask so and so, then you can wear a mask so and so! That would be awesome. Just an idea.
Until every business implements a mandatory mask policy and enforces it without exception, we're going to have a problem. The vast majority of "anti-maskers" are dumbass Trumpers who'll insist that Covid-19 is a hoax until the day they come down with it themselves.
And to the dumbass Trumper who downvoted me .. go put on your fucking mask.

For people that wear masks you are safe right? So then why worry about the ones not wearing a mask? You have a mask on so your good to go. Nothing to catch. They are the ones taking a risk so don't worry about them.
Completely wrong. The people who wear masks are keeping others safe from their germs. The non mask wearer's can still effectively spread their germs to the mask wearing ppl. So to prevent spread both sides need to wear the masks.

The virus isnt airborne so unless people are sneezing all over each other, a mask does nothing. Also, if your mask works, why do I need to wear mine? Posting some devil's advocate questions I have received from people who don't wear masks. Honestly, I dont have a good answer
OK, I am going to explain this in the simplest terms I can. Covid spread by airborne droplets from the respiratory systems on the infected. IF you wear a mask, your droplets stay with you if you sneeze or couch or talk. This virus has a 2 week or so incubation where you don't know you have it, but can still infect people. Your mask is not to protect you, it is to protect those around you, some of whom are medically fragile. I don't know how to explain how to be a good person to you though. If you can't find it in yourself to wear a mask for a few minutes while you get groceries or takeout for the good of other people, I don't know how to help you.
It does protect you, in addition to protecting people FROM you. The virus spreads by airborne droplets, and masks do block those droplets to some extent.
As much as I appreciate your explanation, these people still won't get it. They read the words and it doesn't stay in their brain. There are sooo many images showing how masks work, yet people like this STILL don't get it. They still think the mask is protecting them. *** A MASK PROTECTS OTHERS FROM YOU. *** That's the bottom line. Wear a mask or stay inside.
So to look objectively, if you had (for example) cancer & there was a treatment that had the potential to save your life but also had the potential to do absolutely nothing, you'd choose not to have the treatment? As others have said, every breath you take releases moisture droplets in the air. Human body temperature is 36.5–37.5 °C so your breath is almost always hotter than the air. Everyone coughs occasionally too, we try to cover our mouths but we're not always fast enough. I choked on my own saliva once (I guess I was hungry) breathed it in somehow & immediately had a coughing fit. Shit happens. Wearing a mask for a few minutes when you go in a shop to potentially (or definitely) lessen the chances of this virus spreading is no hardship. You don't come across as an anti-masker & I guess you were just expressing your thoughts but really, is it really a problem to cover your mouth & nose with a mask for a few minutes when necessary?
Why is AlphaPuck getting downvotes. He(she?) is just asking how to respond. Are there any anti-maskers who now wear masks? What changed your mind, was it something someone said, experience? I've downvoted AlphaPuck a few times for other comments, but this one is a good question. What can we say?
For some reason people are a bit downvotey today. Must be something in the WiFi signal :)
It's a good question couched in a faulty opening statement.
Also, think of it like when it's cold outside. When you talk you see the air (like dragon breath) and those are the droplets. So the mask traps most of those little suckers inside of yours and my droplets are inside mine.
Don't know why you are down voted, your questions are excellent. All you can do is repeat until blue. No pun intended. Nor poetry. The explanation Carra gives is pretty complete explanation. But she is correct, it boils down to how can you make people care about people they may not even know.
I think maybe some people don't understand what "Devil's advocate" means.

To mask or not to mask is the only choice? Never ask for a deeper context... and believe in simple solutions. - But have the awareness, that most of the viruses and bacterias are in a complex communication with our body. That means, always wearing a mask, always making hands disenfected can cause serious harm to you immun system.

It isn’t about whether I can wear it. It’s about whether you get to demand that I wear it. If you try to take my right to choose, I will defend my right to choose with whatever force I deem appropriate.
How do feel about stop signs? Will you "defend your right to choose with whatever force you deem appropriate?"

The CIA/NSA/Mossad are very happy with the results of their people control experiment.
Are you kidding? If not, perhaps they could everybody to vaccinate their children.
