Oh, the sweetness of sheer unapologetic laziness… Is it just a lack of willpower? Maybe it’s a state of mind, a hedonism-inspired lifestyle, a rebellion of modern kind. All jokes aside, calling someone “lazy” is somewhat an insult, especially in societies where hard work and productivity are valued highly (we’re looking at you, America!).

Having said that, a 2019 Pew survey found that a majority of Americans think people are lazier now than they used to be. But we can all discuss what being dubbed lazy actually means.

For some it's a lack of physical activity, for others it may be lack of will to do even the most routine and boring tasks. And while it’s totally normal to have a brief episode of idleness, if it lasts too long, you’re suddenly playing dangerous games.

So today, we’re diving deep into real-life examples of people succumbing to their laziness, by choice or accident. The result is an uncanny collection of pics that may make you laugh, infuriate you or give you a moment to reflect on your own lazy side.

Super frustrating to see this. My dad is a paraplegic due to a car accident. We both nearly died, no exaggeration. This type of c**p happens all the time. I’ve seen two healthy 19 yr old dudes park in a handicap parking space at the bank. Most folks excuses are, “oh I’ll only be one second”. NO ONE is ever just one second. The laziness & sense of entitlement is brewing rampant across the globe. This is not something unique to one race or moral beliefs. It’s a complete lack of common courtesy.

Laziness can lash out at us at every corner, especially at times when we need to be at our most productive. Think of work deadlines, important meetings and calls, bills to be paid and things to be done. Sometimes it’s little things that we can’t force our bodies to push through– from household chores to dragging ourselves to the gym.

And while we all have brief moments of idleness (which may feel pretty indulgent!), at some point it becomes a genuine problem. So to find out more about what’s actually happening in our minds when we’re lazy, how to cope with it we reached out to two experts: Christine Mitterbauer, a licensed and ICF-approved career, and life coach and serial entrepreneur, as well as Dr. Audrey Tang, a chartered psychologist, media spokesperson and author of multiple books, including "Be A Great Manager Now", "The Leader's Guide to Mindfulness."

Dr. Tang argues that laziness becomes a problem when you are either no longer contributing fairly to what you are receiving and requiring others to take the strain (with little thought to their wellbeing and efforts), or it is standing in the way of your own achievement of personal goals and desires.“In the latter case (and sometimes in the former) - this can speak to a lack of motivation, and, sometimes, the lack of desire to do anything can be a symptom of depression. In which case it can be helpful to ask yourself why this is happening,” she explained.

So here are some important questions to ask yourself, according to Dr. Tang: “Think of a goal, have you got it?” and next, “Think of all the things you need to do to achieve it.”

“Small manageable chunks, with focus – you should be achieving that in no time – go you!”

“Seems straightforward, doesn’t it?” Dr. Tang asks. “And this is a goal you’ve had for some time, plus those steps are probably quite easy…”

Dr. Tang invites us to think about everything we did yesterday–”how many of those things contributed TO your goal or simply distracted you from it (Netflix binges, scrolling mindlessly through social media, any psychodramas you got caught up in)?”

Walking over is sometimes necessary. At our local church, some of the gravestones actually form part of the path to the rest of the churchyard. Vehicles and dogs should be left outside/on the road.

Slate markers are among my favorites... rarely seen nowadays and it's always a treat to see beautiful craftsmanship on such a fragile medium. They're subject to delamination, and so many are damaged by well-meaning but untrained people attempting cleaning. Number 1 favorite: field stones painstakingly etched with initials and date. They are labors of love.

I mean realistically all sorts of heavy machinery are consistently driven over graves every time a new grave has to be dug or the grass is mowed. Might be a little uncouth, but it's not actually damaging anything. Also, let's maybe cut the grieving some slack.

Those stones are property of families that purchased 'em, and the city (or cemetery association) was paid to maintain them.

GAAAAAAAH! As a headstone hunter-genealogist documenting and restoring old burial grounds, can verify this damage occurs almost everywhere I've worked. People allow cows to graze around old burials, kids get drunk and tip over stones bigger than their car, groundskeepers mow over inscribed rocks and chew up granite and slate with weed eaters. It makes me pig biting mad.

When I visit our family plots it looks like I’ve done the same thing. In reality, the cemetery has just chosen not to pave the access road for this area. If you look at the cemetery layout the roads exist and if you ask at the office they will point them out and tell you to use them, but you have to look closely to discern the tracks when you get to them. It’s their way of preserving the green space. So, while it may look like someone must have driven over graves to reach the graves they’re visiting there, they didn’t. I’ll admit that the optics have always bothered me. As a kid I thought my aunt was fooling when she explained the “roads” when we visited. When I inherited the plots, I discovered she wasn’t. So, I now use them, too, optics be damned.

This really pisses me Off. Because I have to use a wheelchair I cannot visit my mothers or fathers grave. The footpath gets to about 30 yards away and the gravestone is over grass/mud/puddles. It's four years since my mum died, two for my father. I have only got to see her grave once as I need two people to take me there. I have never seen my fathers gravestone. I could if we did this mind. But I wouldn't as it's Despicable behaviour. These people make me feel sick 😡

There's a woman who comes to the park just outside my home that was formerly a graveyard and puts bread and birdseed on the old gravestones and markets for the birds. When I attempted to politely talk toher about being more respectful, she got her husband and he got violent. The council refused to do anything except talk to her about not feeding the birds bread, which she said she'd stop. She didn't, of course. She also claimed to "Love birds," but apparently has no clue of the harm she's doing. Don't get me started on how the pigeons and gulls (which are aggressive and scare other birds away from the park) defecate on the graves when they flock there for free food they don't even need (she does it multiple times, every day, year-round).

While I do find these people lazy and disrespectful, I will just add this, being from the funeral business... How do y'all think the cemetery workers get to the graves to dig them? They don't dig them by hand anymore, and the dirt has to go somewhere. While we avoid the headstones, graves can and do get drove on with dump trucks and backhoes consistently.

Unsure why you are getting downvoted for this, unless people think graves are public property... they're not. Burial plots are purchased, markers are purchased, and the obligation of upkeep falls on the cemetery association, city, or church owning the site. Vandals can, and should, be held accountable. Also: This particular case may be optical illusion of sorts with road just covered by snow.

According to Dr. Tang, our brains are amazing since they are capable of so much. “And yet we often apply their energy and drive ineffectively due to habit, laziness, or simply because we don’t know any other way.”

It’s important to realize that it is not the big choices that we make that shape our lives the most – “whether to buy that house, whether to take that job, whether to get into a relationship with that person… because they are clearly defined and they have an exit strategy,” she said and added that “it is the little choices you make every day that really make up who you are.”

Am I Crazy Or Is This Acceptable?

Am I Crazy Or Is This Acceptable?

We share a laundry room with the people upstairs (the laundry room is right outside our door). This pile of dirty clothes has been sitting there for 5 days, this is nothing new. My bf is making me feel like the crazy one for having a problem with it. Advice please?

There is definitely a problem with this. You don't clutter up communal spaces with your c**p.

It's illegal to do this in the UK, sadly it doesn't stop idiots from doing it.

Pint glasses, disposable plastic cup, and beer can imply someone threw a party. Oh theres a shot glass right there too. Someone over indulged.

If only they had thought to put the name of a city in a time zone -1h away (e.g. if in Paris, the sign says London). Then this would actually look classy.

Surely the answer is that you take their shoes in exchange for the skates and then when they turn in the skates they get their shoes back?

In fairness, the road worker wouldn't have had the authority to cut down the bush. And I doubt the paint equipment would have been able to duck underneath it.

It actually took much more effort to paint the plank than to move it. This is not laziness, this is malice.
