Did you know that hippos attract mates by peeing, elephants only sleep two hours a night, and male bees are locked out of the hive during winter?

I’m a writer and illustrator living in the Netherlands, and I draw sad animal facts. I’ve spent the last three years researching and illustrating sad facts about adorable animals and sharing them online.

First time a male is loyal to a female and the female isn’t 😂🧐

I call b******t. Almost every bit of "animal monogamy" ever claimed has been disproven by DNA testing on populations of said animals supposedly demonstrating monogamous behavior.

This is prob the female instinct to do what's best for babies

It's probably to do with the instinct to raise and feed young.

Looks like the Brothers Grimm were actually correct with their fairy tale "The wedding of Ms. Fox."

I think this is for practical reasons - the female needs healthy males to breed and protect their specie

Wow, oddly I believe this to be fairly accurate with people as well.

I think humans are the only species with dominate males. Black widows, most sharks, praying mantis, even female love bugs are bigger and stronger. I want to say females need to be more hearty when they have to eat from their own work and make babies, where as when men feel they have to provide the natural order has decided to shift. I bet if men would have let women be philosophers, maybe us six foot guys could find a 6'3 woman. I love mountain climbing!

First of all: what the f**k are you on about in that whole latter part? Secondly, you are not thinking of a whole lot of mammals, such as lions and many primates where a male is dominant. Throughout the animal kingdom, it's generally inconsistent as to what sex is "higher ranked" or if there's even a hierarchy at all. Thirdly, how nature works isn't some sexism argument.

Not true. Cats have definite preferences for various people, and I know for a fact that one of ours likes men because of their deeper voices. Plus, mine come running when I talk to them.

But they have learned what tones we can hear, so when they trust us and want to communicate with us, they actually use those tones! Elephants are incredibly smart animals (and very very interesting)

Just think about it: these male birds can puke on a female and the female will STILL mate with them. Meanwhile, you're single and scrolling through sad animal facts on bored panda.

Well, have you seen their crowded living quarters? I'd want some alone time too!
