“Love thy neighbor” sounds lovely. On paper. But it’s an extremely hard idea to follow when your neighbors act like weirdos that can’t help but get up all in your business.
Drama between folks living next to one another can (and does) arise over pretty much anything and everything. Christmas lights that are up too early. Tomato plants that some confuse with pot plants. And who can forget the classics like getting angry that your neighbors don’t mow their lawn as often as you do?
The ‘Best of Nextdoor’ Twitter page does what it says on the tin and collects the most off-the-hook examples of neighborhood weirdness from the ‘Nextdoor’ app that’s meant to be a place for neighborly concerns, updates, and complaints. Jenn Takahashi from California is the mastermind behind the entire wholesome and lighthearted project. Her efforts since 2017 have amassed her a whopping 422k ardent supporters on Twitter, 57.8k fanatical fans on Instagram, and over 29k followers on Facebook.
What started with tweeting out posts shared with Jenn by her friends eventually snowballed into a huge community that sends in funny ‘Nextdoor’ tips.
The ‘Best of Nextdoor’ Twitter account is quite the celebrity-attractor on the net—it’s drawn in some big names from all around, according to SFGate. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, model Chrissy Teigen, and actors Angela Kinsey and Rainn Wilson are just some of her more notable followers. And who can blame them? Stars have neighbors, too.
If he had said that the plant was a Labia Minora the imbecile probably would have believed it too.
For the founder of ‘Best of Nextdoor,’ the project isn’t about the cash—it’s about the laughs. Or rather, sharing them with as many people as she can. She greatly enjoys making people’s day better and welcomes all of the positive feedback. So if you enjoyed her content, be sure to drop her a line and say ‘hi.’
Last year, Jenn would get around 50 submissions to look through each day and would narrow those down to the very best. Her rule of thumb is to look for peculiar stories that have funny and lighthearted elements to them. Anything that borders too much on the gritty side of realism is out of the question.

To me that is actually a lot. Don’t see many Aussie flags at private residences/businesses. They are mainly at government buildings like schools, council offices, universities etc. They come out of the woodwork for Australia day though.

Put mine up the 2nd week after Halloween. I have Jack and Zero so I leave the Halloween tombstones out and put lights over them, put a Santa hat and red robe on Jack and put a few deer out.
Yet everybody was happy back in the spring when all the houses in quarantine put their lights back on because everybody was getting depressed. Now we are still in the pandemic, this year has sucked, and some people like to put their lights back on in order to have SOMETHING to smile about, but the same people that thought it was a fun idea in the middle of like april now think it's a bad idea the last week of November.
I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building, if I was able to I would put my lights up when it damn well suits me. And I always start decorating for Christmas after Halloween. If you dont like it dont come to my damn house, you dont pay my bills and you are not going to come and help me put the s**t up or take it down. Why cant people just learn to look the other damn way, someone celebrating when and how they want to has no effect on others lives. People are just petty. And i think people are dumb to wait because it never takes away from Thanksgiving in my house and while everyone is killing each other in the stores I am done by December 1st getting to actually enjoy the holiday. I usually wait till black friday to get my tree but I am going to get it tonight so suck on that scrooges.
I don't mind lights. Half the year is dark, so we need more than one month with lights ... I do wish the super christmasy stuff would wait until Christmas though
I'm ok with lights. How can seeing twinkly lights make someone mad? There is a house about 6 houses down diagonally from me that still have the porch posts wrapped in orange lights. I'm ok with it. I love Halloween, though.
yep we've got about 5 people in our neighborhood with them up so far and my mom is playing christmas music nonstop
OH MY GOD, it annoys me so much how our neighbors will put up their lights in October and keep them up until May. Our newer neighbors put up some fake cobwebs for 2019 Halloween and they've been there ever since.
Lights should only go up after Thanksgiving and be took down by the end of December.
In the UK we don't have Thanksgiving. Most lights on houses start to go up on Dec 1st, I like to wait until the week before Christmas. I get bored with them if they go up too early. Tradition says decorations should be taken down on 6th January, 12th night, because that is when the Church commemorates the coming of the 3 Wise Men/3 Kings, so it's the end of Christmas.

24th November, I was seeing Christmas decorations up. I did think to myself, maybe people are trying to get over 2020 as soon as they can, But isn't this a little too much.
it is a bit early but we have never needed Christmas more than we do this year after the holocaust that was the tRump administration. I'm putting mine up early too!

Usually, I'm not a big fan of not giving November it's full glory by decorating for a holiday that lives in the next month. This year, don't care. If it is giving folks some snippets of happy in this sucky year, twinkle lights for all!
I'd agree if this were in Canada, our Thanksgiving is in October. But if we're talking American Thanksgiving in November then I say whatever floats your boat lol. Some people here get annoyed if people decorate for Christmas before Remembrance Day on November 11 because they say it's disrespectful to the troops. The way I see it though, is that the troops now and in the past have fought for exactly the freedom to do this. I also live near a military base and if you were to ask a soldier, I doubt very many of them would care when you decorate.
When sunset is at 4:30 pm, people should be allowed to put their lights up.

Yes, we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, but I can't argue if someone likes pretty lights. Sometimes I'm tempted to ask what they're celebrating, but I don't, and definitely wouldn't this year.

I hate seing stuff decorated too early. Keep inside until Advent please, and out of public spaces til at least then too.

Once joined such a group, but after reading how stupid my neighbors are I unsubscribed. I won't be able anymore to look anyone of them in the face and not laugh out loud for the next decade.
I have a rule wherever I live. I NEVER get to know my neighbours. If something goes wrong such as a falling out, you have to spend the rest of your time avoiding them. Nope, polite smile and a nod is enough for me.

I got booted from next door b/c of a crazy woman who got mad b/c I said I don't eat at Chick Fil A and that I didn't think we needed yet another fast food place in town. She threatened to report every post I made (b/c I "wasn't letting people have their fun" by expressing an opinion apparently)and she did. They don't have any real admins so no one to look at her threat or why she kept reporting me for nothing. Just booted me out b/c I had a high rate of reports.
Most of what I see in Next door is "Suspicious car seen parked out side taking pictures, driver is male, dark skinned", with a reply "Blue Honda? He's my real estate agent". And lots of "Lost cat, last came home last week" along with "Coyote sighting, he must be finding food around here". (hint, keep your cat inside if you don't want it to become prey)
I signed up for Nextdoor. It’s almost entirely missing pet posts. I think they talk about other stuff but you have to subscribe to each topic, and I don’t give a shït about those people and their opinions on gardening and baking or whatever. But I will help them find their lost pets if I can.

What happened to all the BoredPandas with a sense of humor? Our Nextdoor group has many ridiculous posts that never fail to amuse. They invariably are greatly appreciated. Many of the ones here are meant to entertain but instead have elicited stunned commentary or continued the rude trend of using the perfectly normal name Karen as an epithet.
I just joined Next Door a month or so ago. About a week ago, someone reported that the DNR had killed Penny, a wild turkey that was known to hang out by our Burger King. Such an uproar. There are still posts about it. People put up a cross, flowers, candles and such as a memorial by the gas station. Fascinating stuff. I have only posted one thing on Next Door and it happened to be asking about that turkey (which is when I found he was generally called Penny). I haven't seen anything interesting on there before or since. Oh, except one where someone asked if people had noticed all the cats parking on American Blvd. She meant "cars", but it was such a hilarious typo with equally hilarious responses that I doubt I'll forget that particular thread for quite a while.
There was such a fuss that the printed it up on the state's largest newspaper.

Funny - A woman from another part of the state joined my town's Patch page. There is very little communication between residents on the site. This woman starts complaining because several beaches were closed to everyone but town residents, due to COVID. Her accusations were nasty, saying town residents are the worst behaved, etc. The entire thread disappeared in a few days. It was tiny. For other reasons, the town government decided these beaches would be open to town residents only, 7 days a week, permanently. This is a small beach with very little parking. It makes sense to limit beach cowds. There are large beaches with lots of parking nearby. These are better equipped to support large crowds; there is an admission fee to pay life guards and the cost of maintaining the area. Nobody is denied beach access.
Nextdoor does not bring out the best in people. Whoever named and created the neighborhoods in Boston clearly doesn't live there. The names were especially a problem. My neighborhood had the same name as a small, apparently less desirable town. When I contributed to posts, people actually made fun of me, accusing me of not knowing where I belong. The site organizers said they couldn't fix it. Took two years to permanently get off their mailing list.
"Liberals" can't help it if trumpvoters keep flaunting their stupidity.
