Man Has 4 Cops Show Up To His House Because His Parrot Screaming ‘Let Me Out’ Sounds Like A Woman

A family in Florida heard something alarming coming from their neighbor’s house: what sounded like a woman’s voice screaming for help. Fearing the worst, they called the police to investigate. A home security camera caught the moment when several officers arrived at the suspect’s house to find a much funnier explanation than the twisted crime scene they were prepared for.

The video shows the officers approaching a man calmly doing some mechanic work in his driveway. In response to their questioning, he just laughs, offers to show the cops the source of the screaming, and comes back a minute later with Rambo, his beloved yellow-naped Amazon parrot, perched on his hand.

This Florida man was working in his driveway when the police showed up

He laughed when he realized who they were there to see

The culprit was a parrot, who owners say can usually be found screaming to himself

The man told officers that he’s had the 40-year-old bird since childhood. With a bond like that, he must be so used to his feathered family member’s antics that he forgets that Rambo’s vocabulary might alarm some people. In an interview with local news, he added that he taught Rambo to scream for help when he was a kid to annoy his parents. He probably didn’t realize at the time that he had created a monster.

Amazon parrots, a family that encapsulates several species that are mostly green, are among the most popular pet parrots due to their talent for picking up speech. A profile of the species warns potential handlers that the birds, which can live for at least 50 years, love acting out to get attention. They also have excellent memories and bad habits stick with them, so owners are advised to be careful what they say in front of their parrots. Whoops!

Rambo the yellow-naped Amazon parrot even earned a story on local news

His owner confirmed that the neighbors have been introduced to Rambo and calmed down

We can’t blame the concerned neighbor for suspecting that something was seriously wrong and calling for help, but thankfully, it was a harmless misunderstanding. Rambo, of course, seemed delighted to show off his vocabulary to the officers, and later, to the local news team that came to give him his 15 minutes of fame. The parrot owner even mentions that he took the troublemaking bird around the block to introduce himself and personally clear up any suspicions later.

I'm sure the neighbours were relieved to find out no one was in danger after all but fair play to them for not ignoring it. Better safe than sorry.

Reminds me of the time the cops got called out to our house because the neighbor thought we had human bones laying in our front yard. Turns out my sister's German Shepherd, who had a habit of roaming the neighborhood, found some deer leg bones in the trash of a house down the street. She dragged them home, over the fence and laid in the front yard gnawing away on them. As soon as the cops saw them, they knew what they were. But I told the neighbor: A) they weren't human bones and B) if we had human bones, we certainly wouldn't lay them in the front yard for the whole world to see. She wasn't amused by that last point...LOL.

...and that was the last time anyone saw your neighbor, but the screams of wild parrot can still be heard to this day.

Does it seem weird to anyone else that the deputies just let him go into the house alone...what if it had been someone yelling for help? Perfect time to shut them up.

Good work from the neighbor and the cops, though. When you hear "let me out!!" screams from next door, your first reaction shouldn't be "it's probably a parrot".

My friend's mom had an African Grey. He always yelled " ALBERT!" (that was her husband's name). He sounded just like her yelling at her husband, which she did quite often.

Sounds like the woman who bought a gorgeous Macaw for $100, the only caveat was the shop would not refund her money if she decided to return the parrot. He had lived in a brothel and picked up some spicy banter. Her first daughter came home from school and the bird whistled and said, "Looks like new talent! What a pretty lady, she'll fetch quite a price!" Then her second daughter came home, and more of the same. The woman was concerned when her husband Phil pulled into the driveway and came into the house. The bird said, "Hi Phil! Is it Wednesday already? Big spender, girls, big spender!"

You have to be really careful what you teach parrots to say. They'll hear a random word or phrase, decide they like the sound of it, and it becomes their new favorite thing to say constantly. A lot of people think it's funny to teach parrots to say obscene words, but parrots live a long time and often have to be re-homed when the owner dies, gets married, has children, etc. It can be really difficult to find a new home for a parrot that says rude or obscene things.

It's always funny and relieving when the "screaming victim" turns out to simply be an adorable and naughty parrot.

I had neighbors who had birds. The husband was curator of birds at zoo. They had one bird who could imitate...a telephone ringing (old school house phone) and a child screaming in distress. I ran into the backyard many times looking for the injured child!

For those of you saying the parrot must have learned this by hearing it from someone, that can be completely false. A friend of mine had a parrot who would scream “help” all the time. My friend’s husband thought it was hilarious teaching the parrot to scream for help. They loved and cared for him for many years and they never hid anyone in the basement.

Parrots can live really long, some species even over 70 or 80 years. That was the main reason I've gave up on buying a parrot as a pet. They are very loyal to one owner and can take it really hard if the owner dies or even some changes in the environment, such as a new person, boyfriend, child etc...

I love Rambo's story, but it would have been better--and more of a relief for the public, and hopefully, for the neighbours, too--if his human had him say the phrase to prove he actually does say it. :-) Might stop a few heart-attacks in the future!

This is actually pretty sad. Parrots will "act out" to "get attention" because they're suffering. They are very social animals, yet most of them are locked inside a cage, completely alone for most of the day. And when they try their hardest to communicate with humans, people think that they're being naughty...Or that it's funny.

I call bs on the neighbor. You can't tell those repeated calls were from a parrot? Really? My money is on them being sick of it and calling the cops as an attempt to get back at the owner and at least inconvenience him. Which I can't say I wouldn't do if I had to listen to a parrot go on and on...
