Japanese Designers Create Nameless Paints To Change The Way Kids Learn Colors
Ima Moteki, a design duo in Japan, has just created a set of Nameless Paints that aim to completely change the way children learn and think about color. Instead of using color names, each white tube of paint is labelled with an “equation” showing which primary colors, and in what proportions, were used to make the color inside.
The “Nameless Paint” designers, Yusuke Imai and Ayami Moteki, believe that color labels are problematic. “By not assigning names to the colors we want to expand the definition of what a color can be, and the various shades they can create by mixing them,” said Imai.
In addition to rejecting labels, the paints also teach color theory. The equations on the paint tubes help children understand some of the basic concepts behind color theory and how to mix and create new colors.

I learned colors the crayola way. Mac-n-cheese, and robins egg blue. This would have made it more simple.
It's an interesting idea, but kids are learning colors way before you would let them use paints (since they are still putting lots of things in their mouths when they start talking.) I don't this paint make sense. Maybe crayons...
I want to order these and so far I find nothing. I m super excited cause it teaches you what colors you are seeing
That's actually really interesting. These basic colors show so many options for anyone to experiment with to better understand the concept of using these paints.
Of using these paints and mixing the colors*. Ah grammatical errors.
Load More Replies...I think this is a very good teaching tool getting kids to think and innovate. Too many kids today are being 'spoonfed' resulting in them not understanding what is bring taught them.
Seriously? With SO many problems to address in 21st century education someone is wasting time on THIS??? Seem like they're trying to create a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
Wow it's like people can't think about more than one problem at a time. We're so one track minded we can't imagine not only working on only one thing and never thinking about anything else! Get over yourself. Kids, especially young children who are the focus for this product, aren't going to be worried about all the scary adult stuff. This helps kids be more creative and actually THINK about what they're doing rather than just going along with it. Maybe they see that one yellow dot and a tiny blue dot make a light greenish color and go "Well what if I do the same mix with a big blue dot and a tiny yellow dot! This is a fantastic tool and, as a society we really do ignore how much creative thinking can help out in all fields. Unless you're one of those people that likes mindless zombies in which case I'm talking to a brick wall and wasted my time replying.
