Interested in hearing the most prevalent misconceptions, Reddit user FM596 made a post on the platform, asking everyone to share myths that are passed from generation to generation, and that people still believe in. We managed to get in touch with FM596 and they agreed to tell us more about what inspired their post. "One of the reasons I decided to ask this question was to see how many people will mention the thousand-years-old-myth of supposedly living in a democracy (in any country)," they told Bored Panda.
"Democracy was real and has existed only once. After it was violently destroyed, leaders used the word democracy to mislead us into thinking that what we have is the best we can get."
"Out of the 12,000 comments, only 12 people mentioned that myth, just 1 out of 12,000, or 0.008%. That says a lot about the level of political edification we get from the state."
Boys playing with dolls (or other traditional feminine toys) will turn them gay. Or that anything will turn people gay or lesbian.

She seems desperate to BE Thatcher as too many still believe that her brand of government worked. Growth during Thatcher's time? 2%. Guess what it was in the 70s? 2%. On coming to power, Thatcher and co followed a policy of Monetarism – seeking to control the money supply in order to control inflation. This involved higher interest rates and higher taxes. This did reduce inflation to 5% by 1983, but at the cost of a deep recession and unemployment rising to over 3 million. Unemployment was never lower in the Thatcher period than it was in 1979 when she was elected prime minister. So much for the idea that trickle down economics creates jobs because wealthy people will start businesses. They somehow end up trousering the money every time. Stupid effing Tories. That's what happened before so I wonder what will happen this time??? Lots of poor people getting poorer and comfortably off people becoming poor people. Wealthy people carrying on because none of this impacts them.

... actually, climb-up-economics WOULD work - with the lower incomes raised, these people can buy and arrange things they NEED, but couldn't because it always competes with more acute needs. They don't hoard the plus of money they have, they - actually have to - spend it. When more people buy stuff like dishwashers, and have them installed, these fields of employment/business will benefit, renedering them enabled to not delay investments, and so on and so on. After all, we gave the trickle down BS a try of 30 years +, to none of the promised effects whatsoever but quite the opposite - isn't it kinda owed to at least try? After effing up half the country to the point of permanent bankruptcy, due to shiddy wages and generally too less responsibility and too much so called freedom on the side of the already rich, pampering them any further is nothing short of a crime.
You'd get my vote DC. The idea that wealthy people kick start the economy because they'll have swimming pools installed, buy flash cars, get extensions built and employ more people like window cleaners (all examples of what they'll be doing with their extra money I've heard this past week). The rich don't stop doing these things as the economic crisis doesn't impact them. They're rich! Most aren't self-made as well, they happen but it's more rare than people like to accept. Most wealth is passed down (another kind of trickle down altogether!). The other argument is that they create businesses yet the past proved that to be untrue as employment dropped and growth stayed still. If they do create businesses it didn't grow the economy, so other businesses must have failed to have created that rise in unemployment. It benefits the individuals in governments, who tend to be far from poor.

There is basis of truth in this one. People stay inside more during cold weather. Spending more time with other people in an enclosed space makes you more likely to be exposed to any viruses that might be around. Also, studies have found that airborne viruses are carried farther by the more denser cold air. Therefore, there is a greater chance of airborne viruses touching a person rather than ending up on the ground.

People get defensive about this because you have to accept that A) Your family accidentally mislead you on something your whole life, and B) you don't have some magic Cherokee princess Native American blood. You're just white.

How do you add more? That spinach has an amazing amount of iron. Like all dark leafy greens it has some, but not a lot. Someone mad an error with a decimal point many years ago and some textbooks picked it up and for years it was taught.
That removing a gray hair from your head will cause ten more to grow back.
