Can You Spot Who Makes This Pic So Awesome That We Can All Learn From It?

There’s one person in this crowd of moviegoers who’s determined to live life in the moment. Can you find them?

If you guessed that it’s the older woman in the black sweater at the front of the crowd, you’d be right. This photo, taken at the premier of Black Mass in Brookline, Massachusetts by John Blanding, shows a crowd of fans greeting movie stars with their smartphones held high. The woman’s contrasting approach to the moment has earned her heaps of praise after the photo went viral.

Though most of us are guilty of over-reliance on social media to some degree, it’s still a popular subject for artists. This post features work by Babycakes Romero and other artists afraid of what our dependence on technology and social media might mean for us.

Agreed, she is definitely looking with her eyes, not through a screen. She is enjoying the moment as much as the old lady, but she was ignored for some reason.

By the look and smiles on people's faces they all seem to be enjoying that moment of life while also getting the enjoyment of taking pictures and preserving the moment. Those pictures can also be enjoyed later and the happy experience can be shared with friends and other people who were not there. (Hey, I am a photographer and enjoy living and keeping memories of special moments of life .) Who knows. The nice lady with glasses is perhaps by with her son next to her, who is focusing on the phone, reviewing the photos. In my view there's nothing alienating about taking pictures of movie stars.

Holding a smartphone doesn't mean you're not living in the moment or that you're relying on social media. Different people experience life differently. Doesn't make them better or worse. Every generation has something that makes them "worse" than the last.

It's more that they are experiencing 'the moment' alone and not as one with the crowd and all the emotions involved with that. They are seeing it through a small screen instead of lifesize.

Those people will have fun showing the photos to their friends, so what's wrong with that? And they might also put their phones down at times because theres no need for 19276 photos of the same thing. This picture also just represents a short moment.

I don't see why she looks like she's having any more fun than anyone else. There's a lot of people in that group that are smiling and enjoying themselves. The only difference is she's not taking photos but there's nothing to suggest that taking photos is making any of the others less happy or in the moment.

Admittedly, there are some situations where taking photos would detract from the general enjoyment of the moment but I don't think this is a good example of that.

Thesetypes of "technology" themes are really annoying, not to mention very shallow in depth. I'd much rather see a reason explained in the photo than the "artist" talking a flat photo of people taking photos.

it seems like most people in the back are shorter and using the phone's LCD to see. Really the only people that are not as immersed in the moment as the adorable old woman are the two looking at the pictures they just took. Thought they still look pretty happy.

for those who have eyes that can see ... i respectfully offer the following Biblical admonishment written over 2000 years ago about the behavior of humans at that time.... Romans 1:25 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.

Of course the beautiful older woman...it's interesting, my mom is 87, and , we were stuck at the danvers registry...there must have been a hundred people waiting, even sitting on the floor....after about 20 mins, my mom said to me, " This is so strange. I said, what are you talking about?...she said, ITS SO QUIET. NO ONE IS EVEN TALKING TO EACH OTHER. THEY ARE ALL ON THOSE PHONES! I suddenly realised how right she was...I looked around and ,besides a few people, most were totally absorbed by their electronic devices. ...it is sad.

yeah, all these people are happy taking pictures of that guy from Nightmare on Elmstreet while she is staring into the distance dreaming of her new Iphone she'll be able to pick up at the other side of the road at the applestore when the roads open again. Only so she can go to the Spectre premiere to take pictures of Daniels Craigs bum. These kind of assumptions are stupid.
