“I Thought I Was Going Mad:” Pensioner Catches A Mouse That Kept Cleaning His Shed On A Trail Cam
72-year-old British man Stephen Mckears began to question his sanity when he started noticing objects had been moved around in his garden shed overnight. And they weren’t just being randomly placed, things like clips and screws were somehow finding themselves neatly packed back into a tub as if to chastise Mr. Mckears for his untidiness. Just who was this fastidious poltergeist, this organized apparition?

Baffled but determined to solve the mystery, the senior citizen decided to empty out the tub and scatter its contents around. He was astonished to find that sure enough, everything was back in its place the next morning. Something was definitely afoot.

Enlisting the help of friend and neighbor Rodney Holbrook, they decided to set up a trail camera to catch the helpful ghost once and for all. Mr. Holbrook is a keen wildlife photographer, so he has experience in tracking down mystery visitors. What they found was adorably unexpected – a cute and determined field mouse lifting objects twice its size in an effort to keep its ‘home’ clean.

“I’ve been calling him Brexit Mouse because he’s been stockpiling for Brexit,” Mr. Mckears said.
“The heaviest thing was the plastic attachment at the end of a hosepipe – and the chain of an electric drill. I didn’t know what it was at first. The kids were saying it was a ghost.”

“One day I emptied the tub out and spread the contents on the side – and the next day they were all back in again. I thought I was going mad.”

The pensioner was astonished at the mouse’s diligent behavior. “I’ve been calling him Metal Mickey but some people have been saying he’s just mouse proud,” he joked. “I’ve been calling him Metal Mickey but some people have been saying he’s just mouse proud,” he joked.
“I was quite amazed to see it – it is an amazing mouse.”

“Steve asked if he could use my trail camera to film whatever it was that was moving the objects in his shed.”
“The cute mouse was chucking things into the box – we thought it was a ghost or something at first. I thought I have to see this for myself.”

It seems that the mouse goes on-shift from around midnight to 2.30am – and has been doing its cleaning duties every night for about a month now.

“It was doing it for about two hours that night – he must have had to go for a sleep after it,” Mr. Mckears said.

“I’ve seen a mouse moving objects to make a nest but never metal objects. It’s quite amazing.”
“It’s still busy tidying the tool shed.”

Load More Replies...Lol she'd throw the whole lot outta the window.
Load More Replies...This is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen! I had no idea that mice do that. Is this normal or is this guy extraordinary? Either way, I'd love to hang out with him. :)
I think it might be normal! When I was a flatting my kitty caught a mouse once, brought it inside and escaped under the fridge. I took pity on it, and put water in a lid for it. It drank the water and pushed the lid out. I fed it too, and anything it didn't like, it shoved out. Eventually, we got it outside again...(literally hanging off my fingertip with its teeth - very, very painful!)
Load More Replies...I need that mouse. I’ll pay him double what you are paying him. 😜
That mouse obviously isn't stupid. It knows that 2x nothing is still nothing. Make him a real offer.
Load More Replies...This has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. You almost hear it saying "God dam humans can't put anything back where they got it".
I feel the sudden overwhelming need to clean up the house ... or at least my bedroom
Yeah me too..that mouse is such a good influence!
Load More Replies...Omg that poor little darling. Please don't do that to him anymore. Keep his house clean! :)
Clean and safe, what a great mouse! Watch out for nests... they procreate faster than bunnies
I bet this is how legends about Brownies/Broonies got started! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownie_(folklore)
I bet he / she was previously a Lab Rat. Some wild stuff in that mouse. He’ll live a long life!
Where on earth did you find this wonderful story? I need to hire that mouse!
Showed my daughter because she been trying to raise mice, now she has side project
All I have is a rat that does acrobatic routines on the tomato cages in the garage when we come in. I wish he would clean up in there a little bit!
Can this mouse come and do this in my house please? My cat is useless!
Reminds me of my grandmother's tale of the money stealing rat. (She would steal notes, and arrange them in a bed formation for her babies to sleep on.)
Poor Mikey! Cleaning uo your mess everyday and then you just dump it out and he has to start all over! He just wants the place to look nice. Poor guy!
I hope he is compensating that little one with some food snd water!! 💋
Well shoot if the mouse I killed in the trap that was eating my car wires would have done this instead of destroying my engine and pooping in the garage I would have kept the bigger around!
It's so strange though, I wonder why he was doing it. Obviously they do this to build nests but there's no reason for this.
Such a story, awesome I love little critters, to see this has me wanting a mouse however, they don't have a long life span, too sad, thanks for sharing !!!
I hope the owner left a treat for the mouse. I understand they like peanut butter.
Contrary to the stigma that has been instilled into us for countless generations, mice, rats, and a variety of other rodents are actually very clean, neat, and orderly in nature. They're also surprisingly intelligent, considering. Seems rather flawed and quite sad that we've branded rodents, spiders, snakes, and the like, as evil, disgusting, and disease ridden creatures.
I'd like to know if there are are other mouse stories out there. I, too, have an " unusual" mouse. Her antics are almost unbelievable.
Guess he wanted a clean work area and was tired of that big man messing it up.
He said the mouse has been doing it for a month or so, so he has just let the little guy just live in the shed, doing his thing! Hope he gives him a little food.
Looks like the pack rat I have in my garage. It would just sit & look @ me when I went into the garage. Finally trapped it & took it to the woods 2 blocks away but it was back in 2 days. Decided to let it stay for the winter & survive on black oil sunflower seeds that I feed the birds. Too cute to kill.
What a clever mouse! I hope the man is putting out some food for it!! And also I hope he's wearing gloves or at least washing his hands very very well after being in his shed!!
Bored Panda readers can say that they were informed of the first TOC mouse registered by the page, So cute!
I wonder if it is pregnant. I am in my last month and I have experienced sudden urges to clean the house too. Lol It's so cute.
They bulge out to either side when pregnant. (I used to raise the things.)
Load More Replies...I need the mouse to come stay with me about a month and clean my closet floor. Shoes are scattered all over and I’m almost afraid to go in there!
Wow. I thought this was more interesting than watching an episode of The View.
Maybe he has OCD....lol...cute video - no wonder you would think it must be a ghost - I would think that before a little mouse. So funny.
