Hi! My name is Amarylis, I'm an illustrator from Luxembourg and the creator of The Cute Feminist. Since the beginning of 2021, I try to post one illustration a day on my Instagram account in order to empower women one drawing at a time.
I began drawing these illustrations while recovering from burnout as a form of therapy, and my work quickly became viral.

I mostly get my inspiration from the news, my daily life or when I'm in nature. When I see or hear a quote I like, I write it down in a small notepad I take with me everywhere. I also try to come up with my own quotes or recreate some quotes in my own words. The most important is that the quote or affirmation I choose needs to be meaningful for me.
Boys have to cover up too. Most schools have a shirt and trousers policy for boys and some even include a blazer. It's not a one-way street. Go ahead and downvote me, but it's true.
Of course, and that dress code sucks for boys, but males often don’t have to deal with the same issues as women do. I was sent home for wearing a plain black spaghetti-strap tank top once and being slender with breasts while a male student in my class was wearing a “wife-beater” tank top that literally said in Comic Sans “wife-beater” on the front of it. He wasn’t sent home because he didn’t have visible bra-straps on his shoulders like me (literally just extra straps of black fabric on my shoulder tops) which was much more offensive and disgusting of course. The students must be protected from any and all possible even hints of breasts, it may turn them into life long criminals. Language that makes domestic abuse sound like a normal thing is totally cool though. This was 2010. (Although I gotta say to those schools that won’t even let boys wear shorts - that’s equally as stupid, no lady is losing her mind over some guy’s calves so bad that she can’t even study, don’t f****n overheat our poor kids because you weird adults project sexual ideas onto them)

That explains why the preacher's wife stapled crêpe paper to my hemlines. Heaven knows what chaos could have erupted over my bony 14 year old knees.
I think we are missing part of the point about self control. It has to be learned. And about halfway through the education process, girls go from being "those other guys who like different stuff", to being: "I am afraid to talk to her", or "looking at her makes my pulse get weird". How popular culture treats kids messes with all of them in both directions, and puberty doesn't help.
That is not why girls cover their bodies. They do it because they don’t trust boys to behave as they should. Of course, this isn’t the way things should be, but girls have to take care of themselves. No one else will.
A problem with this sentiment is that it is usually only applied to one gender.

Agree but then you get women who find it fun to upskirt/upkilt men wearing kilts too and say "it's only a bit of fun'
We have self control. But we'll be distracted enough to crash our cars, slip on rugs, drop our coffees etc.
People can dress how they want and should be respected as people ..

All illustrations I create have a special place in my heart as they all come from my soul. Some have been created when I was feeling sad, some when I was in a very happy state, but every time with one thing in mind; the fact that with my illustrations I hope to help and empower as many women as possible.
The quotes I choose for each illustration are always meaningful for me, but can sometimes be more powerful from time to time depending on my mood or the time of the year, so I tend to have favorite illustrations that change over time.

I like to create my work in several steps as I work best when I'm in a certain mood and I tend to get art block quite easily. When my creativity is at its highest, I create a lot of different sketches without thinking of a quote in particular. Then in the second phase, I apply the final details and the colors of each illustration. Finally, when I'm not in the mood for drawing, I find a matching quote for each illustration.
With that being said, I always create my illustrations with the same color palette. My color palette is very girly, with different pinks and some touches of blue and yellows. I've had the same color palette for 2 years now but I'm now considering changing it as I am now more attracted to neutral colors. I will see how it will evolve in the following months. In terms of design, I like to stay minimalist and incorporate either women or day-to-day objects in my illustrations. I also love to add some touches of nature and plants from time to time.
My biggest wish is to empower as many people as possible with my work. But if even one single person can be positively impacted by my illustrations, then that already means a lot to me. I am feeling so blessed and grateful every time I get a message from someone telling me that my illustrations have inspired them or helped them during a though situation, and I hope my art will continue to make a positive impact for a long time.

With my illustrations, I hope to teach women that they have the power to do anything they want, and that they can chose how they want to live their own life.
For me feminism is not about being better than men. It's about having the choice to live your life as you want to. You can be a housewife or a CEO, and in both cases be a feminist.
It's also important for me to tell women, especially young girls, that being different is not a bad thing, in fact being different can be very powerful. My greatest gift is when I get people to embrace their singularities and differences through my illustrations.
I second this. I told my friends I was going through a hard time and my whole friendgroup abandoned me. I have a new friendgroup of people i fit in with much better now. my clingy ass still misses my old friendgroup but i know i am much happier with my new friends

Except almost every other body shown in the gallery is a size 2. It would be easier to believe this is sincere if all sizes were represented here. Only #43 and this drawing (#30) are different.
