Mother Cat Brings Her Ill Kitten To The Hospital, Medics Rush To Help Them
Recently, photos taken at one Istanbul hospital’s emergency room made a round on social media. The snaps that were shared by Merve Özcan on Twitter show a mother cat bringing her sick kitten to the human hospital. The paramedics can be seen surrounding the poor mama cat and petting her.
Luckily, the Turkish people are known for their love and respect for stray animals and they provided the cats with the necessary help. The kitten is now fine and no CAT scans were required.

People on Reddit praised the paramedics and hospital staff at the Istanbul hospital for their kind actions. Some also remembered stories of their own where people helped animals in need. “This happened in my hometown with a birthing cat. She had problems and walked up to the hospital and started to meow. They helped her and she is now the pet of the doctor who called the vet,” one Reddit user shared.

My sister lives in Turkey. She says the entire neighborhood takes care of the cats because they keep the rats off the streets! Win win! (Except for the rats...)
Probably a lesson held over from the Black Plague. The whole reason the Black Plague took so many lives was because not only were people unaware that it was the fleas on the rats, not the rats themselves, that carried the plague, but there was a fear of cats in Europe at the time because it was felt that cats were familiars for witches..so many of the cats were destroyed leaving the rats to roam free, unhindered. It may be that the people of Turkey know that keeping the cats around keeps humans healthy as well.

This cat is so damn smart lol Turkish people really love the animals, waaaay better than Australia, they killed and hunted the cat for souvenir. But I'm sure this is all make believes, unless you are living there so for tourist you can't see much. Here's the article that show you it's not what it seems. https://forgottenanimals.org/news/istanbul-stray-animals-deceitful-fairy-tale/
I know it's been standard forever, but cow's milk is not good for cats. Just give them water with their food.
From experience, I can tell you that it is a terrible idea to give an adult cat milk unless it's had it regularly in it's main diet all the way from infancy to adulthood. Explosive diarrhea is terrible to clean up.
I actually agree with you. A cat's stomach isn't designed to digest cows milk and it can cause them to be very sick. Goat milk is a better alternative if possible.
Load More Replies...I have so many questions - first being - how did the cat know to go to a hospital? I know cats can smell illness, but did the cat think "hey, sick humans go here. I will bring my sick baby here"? (The "more info on Twitter" link didn't help me because I don't know Turkish.)
I suspect from what I've been *told*? That the cats were so comfortable with the idea tha thumans are helpers to them, the cat figured, Hey, Lots Of People, more help!

I’ve been to Istanbul. Beautiful city and yes, full of strays. But if you care for animals then you would have a program to neuter those animals so they don’t keep reproducing thousands more strays.
is there anything really that wrong with thousands of adorable kittens?

ALL MAMAS AND BABY KITTIES IN THE 🌎!!😻🐈
Maybe she went there because it was the first place to find with automatic doors? Many cats open doors within the flat. Easy to teach, if they stay and pay attention. I thaught it to my last two, but only one got it - the other ran away (he always did when they were very young...) and found an alternative solution in crying in front of doors to get them opened.
Speaks highly of a culture that an animal knows it will find care among humans and speaks highly of that culture that knows that souls come in all shapes, sizes and species.
It says something of a culture wherein an animal knows it will be taken care of by humans and speaks highly of those humans who know that souls come in all shapes, sizes and species.
Has anyone seen the movie "Kedi"? It's about the stray cats in Istanbul.
We should do this in America but we are to afraid of animals and that is a down right SIN.
Cats must have a sense of whom to trust. I am such a big fan of these creatures. Thank you to the caretakers. May they have all the blessings of life upon them and their house.
That is truly amazing that she knew where to bring her baby. Truly amazing
Wonderful people!!! Thank you for your kindness to animals!! Bless everyone 💞
I am glad that non vets will still help a stray that comes in, it doesn’t happen all the time. Congrats
My next vacation will be Turkey 🇹🇷. A country thar respects animal life is the place to be. Museums respect cats and life. It is true that during the the 13th century the the Roma Catholic Church held cats as the devil's helpers. The cathedral of Lausanne Switzerland 🇨🇭 cats were set on fire 🔥 and thrown from the Bell 🛎 tower, so we're women that this church ⛪ designated as witch 🧙♀️. This church has always controlled its members. A lot is based on superstition to keep the people in the dark. Only the priests and some nobles could read, the rest of the population were kept illiterate all better to control them.
An amazing, touching story🤗. Humans definitely came through for sweet mom and kitten. But Motherofdogs is right.. What if she has other kittens hidden outside? Hope not😒💞.. But Congratulations to everyone who helped them🌹🌹
I just LOVE this story ❤️ The mother cat knowing where to go to take her kittens is so amazing 😕 Thanks Soooo much to ALL the staff. Turkey is obviously a wonderful country especially for pets♥️

This Mama & the baby looks super cute. Also thanks to the people who cared for her & her baby with kindness & compassion.
This is such a moving story. I wish people in the USA cared for cats the way they do in Istanbul!
In Santo Domingo, they'd both killed. Compassion it's very rare around here. I only hope that they don't get separated. People tend to separate animals but not other people.
Well, I am British (hence, European). Absolutely, historically, over the ages, and ages, and ages there has been a firmly held fear that black cats and witches are in cahouts together.

What doesn't add up? Cats found in hospital, looked at by human doctors but redirected to the vet (ANIMAL doctor) to make sure they're ok? Are human doctors experts on cats now too? What do we need vets for then?
