Nowhere on this earth do you expect to feel as safe as in the doctor’s office. It’s where we come at our most vulnerable, looking for genuine help and understanding.

But according to some women on TikTok, this is not always what you find there and they’re now sharing the most inappropriate things they were told by a doctor. The trend started when one TikToker, @kristamackenziee, shared an incident during her skin checkup.

“He was an older man and I was intimidated by him,” the woman recounted and proceeded to talk about taking her shirt off to show him the affected area. At this point, the doctor dropped a comment that left her speechless and made her feel super uncomfortable.

Turns out, she was not the only one having experienced a disturbing comment from a medical professional. So let’s see what other women have shared in response to @kristamackenziee’s question “What is the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you?”

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them I was 15 when I was raped. I didn't tell nobody but I still went to go get checked with a doctor for std's/sti's but they didn't know that. While they were swabbing me down there I started to cry cause it hurt and I was scared. And the doctor said "don't cry now you're the one who decided to open your legs at 15"

Bored Panda reached out to Krista Wiseman, a social media content creator and mom of three girls sharing her journey through motherhood with her Instagram, TikTok and YouTube followers. Krista was also the TikToker who got women sharing the most inappropriate things they were told at the doctor's office after she posted this viral video.

“It is very unfortunate, but I think some doctors feel they are 'above' their patients because of their title and their education,” Krista told Bored Panda. “Maybe they feel they can get away with more because of that, or they feel they are entitled to speak their mind because they have worked hard to get to where they are.”

The author also said that “obviously this isn’t true for all doctors, but I’ve had many bad experiences myself and so have the women who came forward on TikTok!”

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them My husband and I had a miscarriage within the first year we were together. I was bleeding so we went to the ER. They were like 'there's nothing wrong with you'. I went to the bathroom and ended up birthing our baby in the toilet. I ring the emergency bell. They come in. And they look... they flush the baby down the toilet. I, in shock, walk out to my husband. He says 'what just happened?'. And I', like 'the doctor just flushed out baby down the toilet'. He [the doctor] came in and said 'Well what else were we supposed to do, it was already dead'.

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them So I had to start seeing a brand new doctor because I was having a bunch of issues with my skin. Turns out it was psoriasis, but we had no idea what was going on. So I got referred to this new doctor. He was an older man and I was a little bit intimidated by him at first. So the appointment starts and he's asking me all kinds of questions and then he asks to see the rash. And one of the issues I was having was in my armpit. So I was trying to show him like through my shirt. And it was kind of hard to show the whole thing. So I was like, oh, should I just take off my shirt? And this man sits back in his chair and says, yes, excite me. What? I honestly didn't even know what to say at this point. I took off my shirt and I felt extremely uncomfortable. I had a lacy bralette on and this man is just like staring at me. Anyways, after the appointment, my mom ended up going back in and giving him sh*t.

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them The doctor that I was going to for my birth control was checking it. And I had mirena (spiral), and I could tell that it had moved, it was uncomfortable, that she needed to check it better. She said, well, let's check it, come in. And checked it. She was like, nope, it didn't move. And I was like, well, how about taking it out? Because I'm having a lot of issues. And she says, no, you don't need any more kids. You're young, you have enough. Then proceeds to tell me after ab ultrasound, oh, no, you really do need it removed, because it moved. So we're gonna get you into surgery. Then, doesn't tell me or the doctor that is performing the surgery that I'm pregnant. And then, after I have already found out that the pregnancy was terminated after the surgery, calls and says, oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were pregnant.

When asked if she’d handle the situation differently now, Krista said that she definitely would if it happened again. “I’ve been making an effort to speak up for myself more, especially if I feel I’m not being treated properly.”

“When the doctor made the comment telling me to 'excite him' I think I was in shock, which is one of the reasons why I chose not to say anything. Being a survivor of sexual assault, I froze and didn’t know what I should say or do.”

Krista said that being in therapy, she learned that this response is normal. “I would hope that if I was faced with the situation again I could gather the courage to speak up and tell him that what he is saying is inappropriate, and that he shouldn’t be speaking to women that way in this professional setting.”

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them what he said wasn't really unprofessional. It was more how he handled it. Big back story. I was having pain in my pelvis for about a year and a half. Had every test you can imagine. I was referred to the doctor because he was a specialist and knew my family history. I waited a year and a half to see him. He did not review my file. Asked me a few basic questions. In total spent less than 15 minutes with me. Examined me, didn't order more tests. Looked me dead in the face and said: Oh, you're constipated. You just need to take a laxative. And left. Waited a year and a half for that. He did not take me seriously in any way, shape or form. Fast forward to another specialist. She happens to be female. She ordered some tests. I get diagnosed with endometriosis. I'm now on a wait list for surgery. So was the problem that he was a male doctor and it was a female problem, or that I was female and he didn't take me seriously, or that he just didn't care?

Most doctors dont recieve the sufficient training about womens health. So even female doctors often dont take women seriously. I have endometriosis too and most of the doctors that dismissed me were women :(

It's concerning that such a centre would employ someone with those views or not have realises what they were saying to patients.

The woman also said that she was surprised to see that so many women have experienced unprofessionalism from doctors. “I wasn’t expecting the TikTok to blow up, or to have so many responses. Something needs to change!”For anyone who’s wondering if a medical professional has crossed the line during an appointment, Krista says: “I think if a patient is uncomfortable in any way during an appointment, a line has been crossed.”

Moreover, “If someone comes forward saying they felt uncomfortable, the doctor should take accountability for the situation and apologize and try to learn from it,” she concluded.

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them OK, so when I was 18, I went to the doctors to follow up on like a bunch of symptoms that I was having. And when I was there, much to my surprise and shock, I found out that I was pregnant. I hadn't considered as an option. And I was 18. So I was understandably shock. So I because I was in shock, I started crying in an attempt to console me. My doctor said to me, don't worry, you are still really early on in the pregnancy. And sometimes this early on, people have miscarriages. And for people like you, that may be a good thing. The fact that I'm a medical professional, I thought it was her place to wish a miscarriage upon me. Anyway, this year, my daughter is going to be 10 and her dad and I are still together.

... a bit aside - accusing someone of this already is part of the problem, as this contributes to the stigma drug users have to face. They're not criminal, they're sick. And if they're not addicted, not even that.

Yeah, I'm calling BS on this one. This is inside their heads. No one would risk saying that even if they remotely meant it. And yes, if you refuse treatment, there's nothing more than can be done at some points, and they will be clear about that. That's not telling you to kill yourself, that's presenting the options. And yes I agree it's hard to get the right type of help, because medicine is very segregated. And that's something that needs to get better. But that's not saying they want you dead.

You must not be in the US, because the attitude described above is woefully common in the US and very believable. Managed care, lack of insurance and unequal payment systems mean many with mental illness, and especially addiction, get treated like a waste of space.

This is heart wrenching. And it goes to show you that medical professionals need to stay professional no matter what they feel, no matter what they think. It’s so hard not to take what other people say to heart but I’m gonna tell you something right now those people have crossed the line and they have said it to more than you. First thing arrogant narcissistic doctors do is blame patients, Especially when they can’t figure out what’s going on. It’s literally a slap in the face to every single professor who is ever taught them. I hope to God that you find somebody who can help you feel better about yourself. I think that after reading these we are a start recording appointments with doctors from now on.

This had to be reported. I hope it was. Is it just me or are all these anecdotes (bot for one, maybe?) from women only? Not surprised. There was no research done on women’s heart attacks, which they finally began to study not all that long ago. Turns out women are different and lives were saved because doctors weren’t just using the research on men. I believe this is true of other research matters, but Id have to look it up. There are books about it. Women are not seen as a fully equal person. They make laws that take away our physical autonomy, which can lead to damaging our financial autonomy and plans, pay us much less on average for equal work - What are we, 8/10ths of a person? Ugh.

One big issue is that women are sometimes emotional than men, which can cause those particular women to be not taken seriously. Displays of excessive emotion by men or women can result in complaints being taken less seriously, as it can come across that they are exaggerating. It's not just men that react that way to such behaviour, but women also.

Not defending the "doctors", but having dealt with mental health issues. Sometimes it is beneficial to "slap" someone with a strong dose of reality. Make them verbally walk through their suicide and funeral - It actually has helped many people. Dealing with mental health is a lot of work. It can be exhausting for the patient and the medical professionals need to keep the patient trying to be well. The treatment is not always kind, but should never be cruel.

If the OP is non-compliant and refuses to follow doctors orders then there are times when caregivers literally have no other option but to tell a person, "If you do not follow this course of treatment, you are welcome to go home and die". Many people struggling with mental health issues will go to the emergency room, get admitted, get acute treatment, then leave without finishing the treatment, or if they do make it through the entire inpatient treatment, ignore the recommendations and follow-up and then a few weeks later they're back at the emergency room and the whole cycle starts again. It's a terrible situation that is sad and frustrating to everyone involved.

Many emergency room personnel don't have much more than a minor understanding of how to deal with psychiatric patients, let alone patients with SI. Without a psych consult or at least a work up by a social worker an ER visit mostly means you'll be be 5150'd and get a nice 72 hour observation until you're no longer a threat to yourself or others. Not much more unfortunately. With that said. I highly doubt any of these things happened. They're highly unprofessional and even your post man, or accountant, or barber or ANYONE knows better than to tell someone they'd be better off dead or to kill themself. I hope OP hs reached out to find suitable treatment for whatever they are dealing with. If you are willing to ask for help, there are people to help, I promise

When I lived in a major urban area there was a "psychiatric emergency room" in the city, something I think should be available in any population center, because every population center has tons of people having mental health crises. The fact is the staff in the ER is trained in Critical Care and that only includes a little training in psychology, they can stop bleeding and pump stomachs and give medications, but they aren't psychiatrists or psych nurses and can't take much time away from the people who are having heart attacks or septic shock to counsel people in crisis - not that they're trained to do that anyway. But that's the US for you, the mental health care system absolutely sucks, it's underfunded and hospital space is desperately short, people with serious mental illnesses are left to the care of their families or the streets. And IMHO it'd be a different situation if the severely mentally ill had more money, the social safety net for the poor and ill is just horrific here.

When I first got married and moved into our new home, The local Doctor wasn't exactly close, but he was the only one around. On my last visit to him, before I had even sat down. He asked me, "What Meds can I give you today." That was when he found out I had a temper. I did not pay for that appointment either, much to the disgust of the receptionist.

Care and treatment for mental health is so unavailable and inadequate. So many many people need help and never get what they need. It breaks my heart.

I don't believe this one, if it were true one would think the person writing it would spell the words correctly, there is no such thing as "sewer slide" the medical term is suicide and even unprofessional professionals would pronounce it correctly.

Sewer slide is a slang term meaning suicide or a suicide pact. I am shocked how many people have jumped to the conclusion this comment is fabricated. If you click through to the original poster you will see that they have diagnoses of Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar, PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. If the person has Bipolar I they may be having paranoia, delusions, or hallucinations related to the illness which may lead them to not want to take any medications. If they were self-harming and had an infection antibiotics would be one of the first medications given.

The people who have said these things to you are wrong, and on top of that they are just crappy human beings. Having chronic mental health issues is just like other chronic illnesses: it is a combination of chemistry and genetics. It is totally physical in origin. And it is 100% NOT your fault. Being a person with a mental illness has as much to say about the quality of your character as having allergies does. You are not your mental illness. It is one aspect of your life. These so called professionals are frustrated by their own lack of knowledge and by their lack of success, so they take it out on you.

You need to find better health professionals, but that's easy to say, isn't it? I don't know if you have family, friends, or other compassionate people who can provide a resting place for you, if you do I expect they are there for you and you are using them for help. I wish you the best.

I’m sorry but this has Borderline Personality Disorder written all over it! There’s no way someone in a professional setting would risk their reputation (and possible jail time) to tell someone to “kill yourself already ”. And “sewer slide”? People who work with attention seeking mental health disorders are able to decipher between a true suicidal person and someone filled with drama. You sound like the latter, sadly. It’s sad that you felt compelled to self satisfy by conjuring up a talk tale when there are legitimate bad incidents from medical professionals, very isolated but still happen, yet .001% would be stupid enough to encourage a suicide.

Screw them! I have multiple mental illnesses. I had been trying most of my adult life to get real help. I had been told so many times, they didn't know what to do, or my favorite, I was out of their league. Thankfully I have found a real doctor and psychologist. No doctor should ever tell anyone such BS!! If they can not or don't know how to help someone, they need to refer the patient to someone who can. If they are going to be so negative and treat people so badly, they should have their license revoked forever. They are in a profession to help people, not try to destroy them.

Who in the h-e-double hockey sticks talks to someone in distress like that!? You are in the wrong profession if that is your response to someone who needs compassion and medical help.

I wonder how many people sadly listened to their suggestions especially at time when you’re already doubting yourself. They need retraining or firing.

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them 1. the doctor was about done, it was just a normal check up and he looks at me and he's like "your eyes are kinda droopy" and I was like "yeah I've been up since 6am" cuz of school. So then him and my step mother start talking about eye lifts!

2.another check up. So after they do the heart thing ig my heart rate was weird and he asked me (this is a different doctor btw) if I felt anxious and I said "yes" and he was like "no you dont" like you asked if that's how I felt and I said yes, and now you're telling me that's not right like what?

Give doctor number one a sock in the eye, maybe he’ll forget about eye lifts.

20 Women Share The Most Unprofessional And Disgusting Things A Doctor Has Told Them I went to the hospital because I fainted when I was like in my eighth month of pregnancy. And the doctors told me that I needed to put more ranch or my salads because I had only gained 13 pounds during my pregnancy and they were making a big deal that I wasn't gaining more. So they're like, don't be afraid to put in your salads. My ob-gyn said my weight was perfect

Yeah pretty sure ranch dressing contains all the valuable nutriments that a baby needs. Brilliant.
