We are so used to seeing celebrities on the screen, that sometimes we forget that they are real people. So the experience of meeting somebody famous and getting a glimpse of who they really are can be quite chilling. Sometimes even surreal. Michael Segalov took to Twitter to find out if he's the only who had surreal encounters with celebrities. Turns out he isn't. His tweet went viral and people began sharing their own thrilling experiences. Scroll below to read them!

I worked at a hotel in Seattle that was having a convention. Bill Nye was there for it and had biked in. He checked his bike helmet with me and later tipped me a $1 when I brought it out to him.
Paul is SUPER nice. I worked in a film he was starring in ( IDEAL HOME).

I met Jasper Carrot when I was nine at a restaurant in Menorca. He was at the table next to us having dinner with his daughter. I plucked up the courage to ask for his autograph and he told to go away!!!
Ha! I met him when he gave a speech at my uni! Must be 25 years ago now. Such a nice man.
I worked in a small florists years back and was close to closing time when Anita Dobson came in for a bouquet of flowers. While she was waiting for me to make it up she made a fuss of my mother-in-laws little dog who was with me. She wanted to take him home. She was a very sweet person.
I was at a wedding at the yacht club in Newport. A friend and I bumbed into a guy who looked like Billy Joel, except really really scruffy. She said, "It's Billy Joel!" I said, "No it's not. Too scruffy." The scruffy looking guy looked really irritated. "Look, see? I bet he get's that a lot," I said. Later, I found out Billy Joel made an appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival that day. oops.
It was in the early 90's that I was at the Topsfield Fair, in Massachusetts, and I got plowed into by a man who was walking so fast I almost fell over. He grabbed me by my shoulders and kept apologizing and asking if I was alright. Isaid I was fine and walked away with my friend. Once we were a few feet away, my friend yells, OMG. that was great! I said , "What was great about some idiot not paying attention to where he was going and almost knocking me over?" She said: "Mel, that was Johnny Cash!" How I didn't recognize him, I'll never understand!
This is going to date me.... but when I was in high school I worked at Canterbury Race Track in Shakopee the year it opened. I worked in the exclusive Turf Club and got to clear the table of Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. Got their autographs and everything! Of course given it was years ago, there were no cell phones and being a teenager I lost their autographs! They were very gracious to everyone.
As a kid I lived in San Francisco, where my mom and a friend or hers found out where they were filming "The Streets Of San Francisco ". While they were taking a break in the filming the stars were off to the side not really taking pictures or interacting with anyone except the horse that was the police horse in the shot and all I wanted to do was pet the horse. Normal horse crazy little girl . Mom had other plans. She told me she would pay me 5$ to get a picture with Micheal Douglas. So not realizing this might not be the way to phrase it I walked up to him and asked if he would mind taking a picture with me like I was the important one. He did laughing about it the whole time ( only person to get a picture) but the kicker was after I thanked him I hollered "Okay mom Pay Up". He lost it and signed an autograph for mom and paid me the 5$ from his own pocket. And made sure I got to pet the horse. I was in cloud 9 for a long time after that

I collected Jojo bows in high school (Call me weird, but ya) and I was wearing one while on vacay in Los Angeles, in my senior year. Passed Jojo Siwa on the street while on my way back from the grocery store and she told me she liked my bow and was surprised to see me wearing it at my age. It was probably the most awkward conversation in my life.
I've had a few but only one I can say was a surreal celebrity encounter and it was with Philip Seymour Hoffman. I grew up in NYC and liked hanging out at the Greenwich Village Waterfront. One night I'm sitting on the steps waiting for my ex and bff to come back and this lil boy runs my way and jumps on top of me, like a child that jumps on you ready for a hug. Philip runs towards us apologizing, I told him no need being that I have a child the same age, so he sits next to me and we start to chat. I kept thinking who is this man and then remembered The Talented Mr. Ripley, kept it to myself and it was the best thing I did because we had a nice chat, he pointed out his building and told me to come by with my daughter for a play date and told me to ask for Phil. It's was super surreal and he was very friendly and down to earth. It's a shame that he is gone.
Back in the 90's I worked at a restaurant in CT that had lots of celebrities come in: Gene Wilder, Martha Stewart, Meg Ryan, etc. One slow Sunday afternoon, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins walked in. I seated them. Robbins simply placed his order, but Ms. Sarandon could not have been nicer. Put the ticket in, when she called me over. Started asking me about my hobbies. If I had a girlfriend. Etc. We started cracking jokes when I suddenly thought..."Wait, is she simply being nice, or flirting with me?" When I brought the check, she thanked me, winked and blew me a kiss. I nearly passed out.
I met Louis Theroux at Gatwick airport about 5-6 years ago. I say 'met', he actually ran past me as I was sat at a cafe table stuffing my face.
Speaking of celebrity encounters, my math teacher said he met “the chick from Titanic” (aka Kate Winslet) while waiting for somebody at the airport. They awkwardly looked at each other, waved, and then she left.
Nicest celeb I met was David Hewlett from SG Atlantis. I was waiting in line for an autograph, and had my 7 yr old daughter with me. My daughter has autism, and she became distressed by the crowd, the o my way to calm her way to pick her up. Now I'm short, and lifting her at that age meant her feet were almost in the ground, but I did it anyway. I got to the end of the line after an hour holding her, and saw the autographs were actually something like $50 each (event organiser demanded the price, not David). He saw that I started to leave disappointed, he asked why and I explained I couldn't actually afford that. He also asked about me carrying my daughter, probs because it looked weird, and I vaguely explained. He then grabbed about 10 photos, signed them all, and gave them to me. The event organised looked like he was ready to kill him, but David ignored him and did it anyway. Lovely guy.
My mom's celebrity crush was Alan Alda. He got in my university elevator with just us and I said "Mr Alda, I love the work you do to support science. This is my mom, who is a big fan". My mom stammered, blushed, lost her voice, basically turned into a teenager. Alan Alda smiled warmly and said "ah, kids these days...what can you do?"to me as if I was her parent!
I was walking out of The Gap in Santa Barbara and saw this large group of giggling girls. Wasn't paying attention to where I was going and I walked right into Rob Lowe. He's taller than I assumed. Cuter too.
I saw Tim Curry at a TSA checkpoint in HNL once. He was wearing track pants, those Adidas sandals with socks, and a very nice sport coat which I thought to be kinda odd. It later occurred to me that he was probably flying first class and some airlines back then had an implicit dress code. I like to think that in the best Tim Curry fashion, he was like "You'd like me to what?" then indignantly whipped open his luggage and grabbed the top half of his tailored suit and was like "There. Fit for the Queen."
I was in the Disneyland's hotel gift shop with my cousins when this huge secret service looking guy stood next to me. I was 11. Everyone in the store got really excited. I went to one of the clerks and asked what was going on and she said " Michael Jackson is here" and sure enough when I turned around there he was. This was around when his Thriller video had just came out. He was there with the Thriller director and a small boy who had oxygen tubes coming out of his nose. My guess was that it was a Make-A-Wish and he was taking the boy to Disneyland. Within seconds people started asking for his autograph and surrounding him. I didn't rush in because I felt like this was for the little kid and I felt bad that he was just trying to go to Disneyland, spend time with Michael, and maybe get a toy. It was like wildfire. They bodyguards soon started creating a path so that Michael and his companions could get back into a limo.
I'm telling you...Whole Foods is the place to be if you want to find celebrities that live/work in your area. I was once in Whole Foods getting vegan cream cheese for Thanksgiving. I get behind this guy yapping on his phone in the check out line..I see he has the same cream cheese. I said "This stuff tastes great, don't you think?" The guy turns around giving me a thumbs up. It's Orlando Jones.
My husband and I were driving down I-405 near Seattle. Suddenly this black Merkur Scorpio comes right up behind us. My husband pulls over in the slow lane to let them pass. He looks left and says "No Way!! It's James Doohan!!" I thought..'nah..couldn't be." But as the car passed us and sped away, we saw the license plate that said "Doo-Fame." Later a coworker happened to be standing in line behind him at a grocery store. He said it took everything in his power to resist the urge to say in a Scottish accent "I wanna put this pack o' gum in mah basket, but I don' think she'll take any more capt'n."

These are all very incredible and sweet stories! Some celebs have bad reputations for being stuck up d***s but there are MANY who are human just like the rest of us and think nothing of having a regular interaction with another person. We may put them on pedestals but from their perspective, they're standing on the same ground as everyone else. They probably have zero idea of the lasting impact they leave on people when they give their time and attention to them as illustrated in these stories.
Don't know most of the people but I still can't imagine meeting a celebrity in person... Actually I did see Ice Cube in the airport once. He was taking up a whole two couches and I rolled my eyes at him and walked away and my brother told me who he was like an hour later.

Several years ago I worked at a restaurant that John Glenn would frequent. Another hostess sat him and when she came back to the stand she said, "A bunch of people just starting taking pictures of me...". One of our co-workers said, " I think they were taking pictures of John Glenn."
I worked for an art publisher back in the days. I was working at my desk and a guy walked in. he went "ladies I'm looking for the big boss!" My co worker and I looked up and see dutch actor Jeroen Krabbé, who's also a painter, standing next to our desks. We saw quite alot of artists but he was just so charming and nice and friendly. We grabbed ourselfs together and I said "yeah he's upstairs in his office" he thanked us, wished us a nice day and walked upstairs. My co worker and I then felt from our chairs :-D He was just the kindest man you could imagine!
These stories are fantastic. I go to work > go home... so never get an opportunity to meet someone like this. :/

When I was working in Belgrave Square (posh London place) I spotted a few celebrities but the best was an older, VERY tall, VERY well dressed gentleman who I gave a second look and a smile just because he was so dapper, and he said "Oh hello darling, how are you?" I just said "very well, you?" and we both smiled and went our separate ways. Weeks later the penny dropped, it was Tom Baker (Doctor Who if you've been living under a rock for the past 50 years)!!! So, technically, he recognised me first :D
In 1990(ish) Henry Winkler was in our town kicking off the 1st Paint Your Heart Out event. Since my husband was a Forman for one of the "professional" volunteers I had the chance to meet him. I was very excited since I grew up watching Happy Days. I could not believe how rude his behavior was. All those people volunteering and he couldn't take a 1/2 second to smile and say hello
I sat next Isabelle Huppert in a theatre and recognized her only at the end of the play...
Whilst in Australia Sydney - I saw Louis Theroux on my lunch break in Oporto (my god I miss that place). He was having an in depth convo with an older woman. I desperately wanted to go and have a picture taken with him or at least say hi and have a convo myself, but I was too damn British to interpreted. So I sneaked a pic on my phone <3 - Sorry Louis!
wow thats so cool! my sister met taylor swift in september, but it wasnt like she ran into her, she just got picked for rep room, but still. there was this one time in a target i was 5 and there was this old guy with a beard and i thought he was santa. so now eveytime im with my mom and she sees a guy with a beard she calls him santa. so i guess after meeting santa once hes stalking me.
