People In This Online Group Know Some Pretty Disturbing Facts About The World And Shared Them For Others To Learn Bacteria antibiotic resistance is on a whole other level. Even In the 13 years I’ve been in a medical microbiology lab; antibiotic resistant has really become rampant. It’s not going to stop either. The bacteria multiply and evolve so quickly that even the most effective “bombacillins” will become obsolete. we are going to reach a breaking point where even things like a simple cut or a sinus infection could become life threatening. Don’t take antibiotics like a Z-pak for a cold. It’s most likely viral and the antibiotics are just superfluous. If you are prescribed antibiotics finish them.

Everybody on the planet needs to understand this. Misuse of antibiotics has created a resistance that we now have several strains of bacteria that will KILL us, and we have no antidote. Never, ever take antibiotics unless they are prescribed. Do not request or demand them if you have a virus, because they only work with bacterial infection, not viral. Listen to your doctors. Always finish the course. Taking them when you don't need them, or stopping too early is what causes resistance in humans, to the point where most antibiotics don't work anymore. It's also allowing bacteria to develop that are resistant to all our antibiotics. This situation has the potential to make Covid look like playtime.

This needs to be understood (should be known already) by doctors as well! I've been to more than two doctors that prescribed antibiotics without caring much for the diagnosis! This is malpractice and it should stop! And also this could be prevented by law! Antibiotics should be available only by prescription

Not just humans. Poultry industry uses LUDICROUS amounts of antibiotics. To keep up with the demand, most farms use growth hormones and antibiotics to speed up production. More often than not a chicken is slaughtered before drugs are out of its system. They try to regulate this, but means of control are next to none. So yes, don't misuse antibiotics, but also lay off KFC and check your supplier before your next Sunday roast.

Yes and no. You probably won't die from a minor infection (cut finger etc) but you will certainly not be able to safely undergo major surgery. Most of the problem is the farming industry who routinely feed large doses of antibiotics to animals (especially pigs) to hasten growth. This then gets antibiotics in to the mammalian food chain.

Most resistant bacteria strains form in humans not in farming. That's why you should buy organic food whenever possible. The organic associations do not allow the broad usage of drugs. And yes, that also goes for vegetables

It happens because people don't use antibiotics as prescribed or use them without prescription... If you don't finish the full course, bacteria is half beaten but not dead and then rise up with the immunity to the antibiotic...

F*****g scary how things have come full circle. Back in the pre-penicillin days, people used to die from infections from viruses or any breakage of their skin (like a cut), because they had nothing to sanitize the area and kill the bacteria, viruses, etc that cause infections. Now we face having the exact same thing happening because we overused those antibiotics to the point where we have now rendered them virtually ineffective against the now rapidly-mutating infection-creating organisms. We are such f*****g idiots who can’t even get/keep it together enough to properly use a miracle cure we created so it keeps working.

We also need to stop routinely feeding antibiotics to livestock - with antibiotics in the food chain, we're all being dosed unnecessarily.

I was prescribed antibiotics literally hundreds of times during my childhood and 20s, occasionally for serious illness but often just for colds / flu. I never questioned it because what do I know? I'm not a doctor. I strongly suspect that this is why I now have an auto-immune disease and my immune system is trying to kill me.

... and let's not continue to pretend the use of antibiotics by humans was the main problem. It's the farming industry that even uses reserve-AB's due to the classical ones not keeping 40000 chicken in one room free of infections. I wonder what we could do about this ... if there just was a realistic solution ... .......

It's not just prescribed antibiotics, it's antibiotics given to farm animals that end up in the food chain. Way back when antibiotics were first discovered, it was found that animals given them gained weight very quickly, so of course farmers were all over that. This could also partly explain exploding obesity rates in humans, especially humans who eat a lot of meat from animals raised this way.

People. It is not humans who are the major reason for multiresistence! IT IS LIVESTOCK!!! Especially pig farming. They get everything, and I mean, EVERYTHING! I work with researchers who investigate drinking water quality, and in one project they needed to know which antibiotics the pigs received, which to look for in the water. The farmer crossed every possibility! In my country, there are triple the number og pigs than people. I would never touch pork in my life!

Aaand this was why I was so angry last week. I had a 'potential uti'. I had some light symptoms but it's not safe for me to wait to get the sample back from the lab so they started me on the best guess antibiotic. This is okay because of my history and the type of bacteria I usually grow. I started my meds and called a few days later to confirm they were correct and the GP staff member told me the sample came back "normal". I double checked there were no bugs in my sample and they confirmed so I stopped taking my antibiotics (didn't have a uti so didn't need them). Rang my GP to talk about something else and was told I DID have a uti and it was the right drug. Now I'm concerned I stopped the antibiotics early and any remaining bugs will have developed a better immunity to them. Sorry, this got long! As someone who is immunosuppressed I HAVE to rely on antibiotics when I get infections and this scares the hell out of me.

70% of all antibiotics are used on animals that are bred for food. They are kept in such a way that they can't survive without antibiotics. Chickens are so heavy that their heart, lungs and other organs can't keep up with the growth, and then they're killed at 42 days old weighing 4 - 6 lbs.

Also, be careful with chiropractors. Some are excellent, and some are definitely not. This is a frequent injury that occurs when some bone-crackers do an adjustment to your neck.

It's not only troops, there was documentary about lives of young people in Alaska, and it was miserable. Always same people, nowhere else to go or hide, drug and alcohol abuse sky-high... I am pretty outdoor person I think but unless you're willing to risk your life camping for weeks in wilderness there's really very little you could do.
