People In This Online Group Know Some Pretty Disturbing Facts About The World And Shared Them For Others To Learn
We don’t know so much about the world. We often hear that humans have explored only a tiny fraction of what hides in the ocean and if you think about it, we know even less about what lies in space. So when we do know something, we want to share, especially when there is a perfect opportunity.
Like when someone like Reddit user CallofDutysVeryOwn asks a question “What Is The Most Disturbing Fact You Know?” It seems that other Reddit users like reading and finding out new things and they might sometimes stumble upon something that disturbs them as they created a huge thread that has over 17k answers. In 2016, about 11.5 million documents leaked from a tax office in Panama (tax haven). It revealed that nearly all rich people on Earth are part of an enormous criminal conspiracy to evade taxes and hoard stolen wealth. Absolutely nothing was done about it legally. If you want to know more, look up Panama Papers.
Bacteria antibiotic resistance is on a whole other level. Even In the 13 years I’ve been in a medical microbiology lab; antibiotic resistant has really become rampant. It’s not going to stop either. The bacteria multiply and evolve so quickly that even the most effective “bombacillins” will become obsolete. we are going to reach a breaking point where even things like a simple cut or a sinus infection could become life threatening. Don’t take antibiotics like a Z-pak for a cold. It’s most likely viral and the antibiotics are just superfluous. If you are prescribed antibiotics finish them.
Everybody on the planet needs to understand this. Misuse of antibiotics has created a resistance that we now have several strains of bacteria that will KILL us, and we have no antidote. Never, ever take antibiotics unless they are prescribed. Do not request or demand them if you have a virus, because they only work with bacterial infection, not viral. Listen to your doctors. Always finish the course. Taking them when you don't need them, or stopping too early is what causes resistance in humans, to the point where most antibiotics don't work anymore. It's also allowing bacteria to develop that are resistant to all our antibiotics. This situation has the potential to make Covid look like playtime.
This needs to be understood (should be known already) by doctors as well! I've been to more than two doctors that prescribed antibiotics without caring much for the diagnosis! This is malpractice and it should stop! And also this could be prevented by law! Antibiotics should be available only by prescription
Not just humans. Poultry industry uses LUDICROUS amounts of antibiotics. To keep up with the demand, most farms use growth hormones and antibiotics to speed up production. More often than not a chicken is slaughtered before drugs are out of its system. They try to regulate this, but means of control are next to none. So yes, don't misuse antibiotics, but also lay off KFC and check your supplier before your next Sunday roast.
Yes and no. You probably won't die from a minor infection (cut finger etc) but you will certainly not be able to safely undergo major surgery. Most of the problem is the farming industry who routinely feed large doses of antibiotics to animals (especially pigs) to hasten growth. This then gets antibiotics in to the mammalian food chain.
Most resistant bacteria strains form in humans not in farming. That's why you should buy organic food whenever possible. The organic associations do not allow the broad usage of drugs. And yes, that also goes for vegetables
Load More Replies...Don't blame the patients, blame the doctors doling them out like candy.
I should have had tubes put in my ears as a child because I kept getting ear infections. Instead, my pediatrician just kept giving me antibiotics.
Load More Replies...F*****g scary how things have come full circle. Back in the pre-penicillin days, people used to die from infections from viruses or any breakage of their skin (like a cut), because they had nothing to sanitize the area and kill the bacteria, viruses, etc that cause infections. Now we face having the exact same thing happening because we overused those antibiotics to the point where we have now rendered them virtually ineffective against the now rapidly-mutating infection-creating organisms. We are such f*****g idiots who can’t even get/keep it together enough to properly use a miracle cure we created so it keeps working.
We also need to stop routinely feeding antibiotics to livestock - with antibiotics in the food chain, we're all being dosed unnecessarily.
Sadly my father passed away because of multi drug resistant pneumonia which he contracted in the hospital.
Do people still get doctors who will over prescribe antibiotics? I have to wait three days with high temp before I get anything for a sinus infection and I will get prescribed the same ones until they stop working to try and avoid this issue.
The pendulum has swung the other way in some places. Which is also bad
Load More Replies...Also. Always use PLAIN soak to wash your hands and body. Do not use antibacterial soap!
I was prescribed antibiotics literally hundreds of times during my childhood and 20s, occasionally for serious illness but often just for colds / flu. I never questioned it because what do I know? I'm not a doctor. I strongly suspect that this is why I now have an auto-immune disease and my immune system is trying to kill me.
I am so sorry for you. My brother has also an auto-immune disease after taking antibiotics. He's lucky it's just an annoying auto-immune disease and not a dangerous one.
Load More Replies...... and let's not continue to pretend the use of antibiotics by humans was the main problem. It's the farming industry that even uses reserve-AB's due to the classical ones not keeping 40000 chicken in one room free of infections. I wonder what we could do about this ... if there just was a realistic solution ... .......
It's not just prescribed antibiotics, it's antibiotics given to farm animals that end up in the food chain. Way back when antibiotics were first discovered, it was found that animals given them gained weight very quickly, so of course farmers were all over that. This could also partly explain exploding obesity rates in humans, especially humans who eat a lot of meat from animals raised this way.
Where I understand this to be completely true, it's important not to be completely negative about it. There are new antibiotics (totally unlike what we have been taking before) being created as we speak. So it's not all doom and gloom
"And carbon capture technologies", don't forget that. This is called "kicking the can down the road". Just stop doing the thing that makes the arms race happen.
Load More Replies...That's good, I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I've had antibiotics in my life, so I should be good when the bacterial pandemic hits ;)
Last one, I think, was the black plague in medieval times, so we're ok...
Load More Replies...During almost my entire life, doctors have prescribed penicillin like its candy. I don't think we can turn back the clock. Just keep on building up our immune systems and keep the weird plastics out of our bodies.
Uh oh. I order fish amoxicillin off the internet for tooth aches. Sorry everybody else.
I got penicillin for a severe sinus infection after I'd had 4 major attacks in a week and the sudafed relieved my symptoms instantly but I was taking it so much just trying to prevent the small episodes getting worse and the big ones to stop that I went to the doctors cuz during the big attacks breathing was so hard as it was all o n my chest
People. It is not humans who are the major reason for multiresistence! IT IS LIVESTOCK!!! Especially pig farming. They get everything, and I mean, EVERYTHING! I work with researchers who investigate drinking water quality, and in one project they needed to know which antibiotics the pigs received, which to look for in the water. The farmer crossed every possibility! In my country, there are triple the number og pigs than people. I would never touch pork in my life!
Aaand this was why I was so angry last week. I had a 'potential uti'. I had some light symptoms but it's not safe for me to wait to get the sample back from the lab so they started me on the best guess antibiotic. This is okay because of my history and the type of bacteria I usually grow. I started my meds and called a few days later to confirm they were correct and the GP staff member told me the sample came back "normal". I double checked there were no bugs in my sample and they confirmed so I stopped taking my antibiotics (didn't have a uti so didn't need them). Rang my GP to talk about something else and was told I DID have a uti and it was the right drug. Now I'm concerned I stopped the antibiotics early and any remaining bugs will have developed a better immunity to them. Sorry, this got long! As someone who is immunosuppressed I HAVE to rely on antibiotics when I get infections and this scares the hell out of me.
Finish the course and go get a multistrain probiotic to supplement the ones you killed in your gut, otherwise you'll start developing allergies.
Load More Replies...70% of all antibiotics are used on animals that are bred for food. They are kept in such a way that they can't survive without antibiotics. Chickens are so heavy that their heart, lungs and other organs can't keep up with the growth, and then they're killed at 42 days old weighing 4 - 6 lbs.
Thanks to very frequent UTI's in my youth I have antibiotic resistance, it sucks.
Question your doctors. They work for you. Remove your poisonous face diapers. Source? I'm in nursing.
You're a nurse yet you promote ignorance of science. You're a disgrace.
Load More Replies...Might help to take off your self-toxic facemask device so you can breathe and allow your T-cells and immune system to do its job preventing Cytokine storms because we now live like the Bubble Boy's buble home.
No they don't! Only if you get an infection BECAUSE of the virus you have! A bad cold can give you a bad sinus infection... Antibiotics are taken to treat the sinus infection, not the cold. JESUS!
Load More Replies...I am disturbed by the fact that the internet has given an outlet to all the idiots and attention craving people. for example, I just watched a 747 pilot debunking titk tok videos that promote dangerous behavior on planes. That's a lot of energy exertion to set things right. And this is the tip of the iceberg.
And the psychologists who debunk the supposed psych tips from tik tok etc
The effects that trauma have on development are chilling. Trauma completely rewires the brain and makes everything from forming attachment to problem solving more difficult. Intervention and treatment can bring about great healing, although it is often a difficult and long road.
Half of the homeless people in America were in the foster care system at some point in their lives
60% of all wild life has vanished since 1970 and still going down.
There is a whale called 52 Blue that only sings at a frequency of 52 Hertz, meaning it can't communicate with other whales. It is nicknamed the "loneliest whale on the planet.
The Velociraptor noises in the Jurrasic Park/World franchise are actually the sounds of tortoises mating.
For someone who had to observe and record tortoises for hours in the past...this makes a lot of sense.
If u get the wrong blood type for a transfusion, one of the symptoms is "a sense of impending doom"
I'd never be able to tell, since I have a sense of impending doom on the daily.
The way we experience life is not linear, but logarithmic. We’ve all noticed that a year keeps feeling shorter, but it’s because there’s a mathematical formula for it. It’s called Weber’s Law. Life is truly too short. Before we ever notice, it’s over.
Mummies weren’t that rare until the Victorian British ate so many of them.
There was a time when babies were operated on without anesthetics. It was believed that their nervous system wasn't developed enough to feel pain.
You could be one brain injury away into being a completely different person. Possibly miserable.
Stroke patients can unfortunately sustain brain trauma that can change temperaments, personality, language, mobility, etc. Important to know the signs of a stroke and seek medical attention immediately.
You could have an aneurysm in your brain right now waiting to explode and you'd never know
Thanks for the added anxiety but somehow I rather know than not know...strange.
Well recently I found out cobras can growl
Even if you dont have a facebook account, Facebook have a "shadow profile" on you, that collects data from all over the internet (Piecing together age, name, location, interests and the like), to get to know who you are, so if/when you create a new account, they already know everything about you.
Also…squirrels are not herbivores! They have, in fact, been known to attack and devour those adorable little chipmunks when particularly hungry.
One out of every 200 people on Earth are related to Genghis Khan.
Only 20% of the males born in the Soviet Union in 1923 survived World War 2
Unless you have a child you are the last of a lineage that goes back to a single celled organism floating in a soup.
This is the age of stars. There will come a time when no new stars form and all stars will die. There will be no light. None. Just darkness and cold. Comforting somehow.
Might not be that disturbing but blind people don’t see black, they just don’t SEE. If they were born blind, they don’t know what black is. So, they just do not see anything at all
I’ve been deeply involved in AA for over 47 years. One of the many things I’ve learned is all professions include ppl who are drinking or drunk while working. This includes airline pilots. I’m betting as I write this there is a legally drunk pilot in the air right now.
Dogs like squeaky toys because it sounds like prey that's frightened or injured.
For my fellow habitual neck crackers; studies show there is a 1 in 20,000 to 1 in 250,000 chance that popping your neck can cause a small tear (dissection) in the inner lining of an artery, which can lead to blood clots forming that can create a blockage in an artery downstream, causing an Ischaemic Stroke (a condition where the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off.)
Cloudy oysters mean they’re full of “reproductive fluids”
I learned that the amount of soldiers stationed in Alaska that are depressed/suicidal is off the charts. Kids get stationed up there that aren’t outdoor people are absolutely miserable. They don’t have the tools to cope yet.
It's not only troops, there was documentary about lives of young people in Alaska, and it was miserable. Always same people, nowhere else to go or hide, drug and alcohol abuse sky-high... I am pretty outdoor person I think but unless you're willing to risk your life camping for weeks in wilderness there's really very little you could do.

I love me some facts. The fate of the world seems grim, but only when you view it through a human-centric lens. Fact is, the world and the universe will go on long after us and hopefully something better will come along!
Yeah the world wont end, it might became too hostile for humans to survive (doubt it, we as a species seem to be very resilient parasite) but it will go on.

I have bad news for you. This sort of "everything seems to be coming to a head" scenario... is not new. It happens all the freaking time throughout human history. And it always seems like this new one is "the big one". That said, very real problems had to be addressed with each previous doomsday event, and this time is no different!
