The Hypnotizing Beauty Of Russia’s Historic Metro Stations
Underneath the streets of Moscow, there’s a whole other world of amazing architecture for visitors to discover: the Moscow metro stations. David Burdeny, an architect-turned-photographer from Canada, believes that he was the first photographer ever to be allowed to shoot the public transport stations after-hours when they were closed to passengers.
The Moscow Metro, which opened in 1935, was designed to be one big Soviet propaganda project. The opulent design elements were intended to forecast a bright future for the empire, as the guiding design principles were “svet” (light) and “sveltloe budushchee” (bright future). Many of the underground stations feature busts of Soviet leaders like Lenin or wall murals with standard Soviet propaganda elements like the Homo Sovieticus. All done up in the classical Russian architecture style, the stations sure do look stunning.
Burdeny’s photo series, “Russia: A Bright Future,” will be on display at the Jennifer Kostuik gallery in Vancouver until Nov. 8th, so if you’re in the area, be sure to swing by! If you won’t be visiting Vancouver, check out this post about amazing metro stations – Russian metro isn’t the only one that’s stunning!

Share on FacebookTwo little mistakes: Avtovo (А́втово) and Nowoslobodskaja (Новослободская) :-) And yes, in reality the light is much warmer :-)
[[ The Moscow Metro, which opened in 1935, was designed to be one big Soviet propaganda project ]] Actually it was designed to be one big public mass transportation system. Get over yourself.
Novoslobodskaya, Avtovo... Tons of spelling mistakes in the names if Metro Stations. Russian subway is not the only beautiful in the world but the most efficient and technology wise one. Trains arrive every 2-3 minutes, names of the stops are announced, clean and affordable.
From the very beginning, the metro in Russia was not only utilitarian, but also an architectural project. The best Russian architects were involved In the creation of its stations. This tradition is also maintained now. 20003451-5...1de58a.jpg
We have a very clean subway! we are proud of it, for us it is a monument of architecture and we carefully treat him!

They are palaces when beauty meets elegance, it's only Russia the blessed land of greatest and the knowledge. Sadly we are kept away from it here the West lands of Hawks, vultures and an enending evil beyond satanism.
Too bright compared to reality. Lights are much warmer there. Rough Photoshop job.
