Art Students Notice A Painting That Looks Like Jesus And It Escalates Into A New ‘Religion’
College final exams are very stressful for students, and while most are hitting the books before the exam session, others seek help from… spiritual beings. It’s a running joke that a lot of students become very religious before exams and turn to prayer to increase their chances of passing. However, students from Savannah College of Art and Design got a little bit more creative than that.
One particular building at Savannah College, called “Montgomery House” or just “Monty”, became a place of worship after students established their own religion there. The Monty, which used to be a coffin factory, is infamous for its lack of clocks and windows. Knowing this, it’s not that surprising that stressed out and daylight-deprived students find spiritual guidance in a portrait of a man who resembles Jesus, and hangs on one of Monty’s walls. Soon after this portrait appeared on one of Monty’s walls, students began sticking papers with prayers and even lighting candles next to it. This is how a new religion was born. However, the college administration wasn’t so pleased. “At one point I think the administration tried to get rid of Monty Jesus but it caused such an uproar that they put him back” Tumblr user metalheadequestrian, who’s majoring in Equestrian Studies, told Bored Panda. “I think Monty Jesus is a great example of an inside joke shared between everyone at an entire school that you’d sound insane trying to explain to people outside the school” she added.

Share on FacebookI went here and this actually happened a handful of years ago. I’ve graduate and I’m not sure that I ever actually saw the painting before it was taken down. The school removed the painting after people started leaving things around it. Also, it’s not a former coffin factory. Tour guides started telling incoming freshmen that on school tours bc the elevator is weirdly long. It kept getting repeated bc it’s funny/scares some people. The whole thing is a big inside joke and definitely not a real religion. Most people there (in my experience) are the furthest thing from religious.
Savannah is a weird town. The art students at SCAD are even weirder. If you've never been, go for st paddy's I promise it is something you'll never forget
Ok, so a school in a former coffin factory with no window... sound great to the former little goth in me XD
sadly scad has moved monty jesus to a different building but that didnt stop a student from drawing monty jesus on a electrical box by the stairs where we still pray and donate food and stuff.... good times but when they did that it pissed off a lot of student. I just graduated this year in 2018 and monty jesus would be forever remembered.
also one more thing they finally brought in windows around 2017... people didnt realize it until someone pointed it out, I was one of them.
I'd love to stay in this building, the dark is my friend. P.S Am I the only insane ASOUE fan here, who immediately made a reference?
After they toke down the painting students put up a life size picture in a frame up, then someone made a website that soon crashed and last it was drawn on a electrical box which I said earlier. There's a picture. montyjesus...fe7aca.jpg
we called him that because the amount of times I went to church very painting had him looking just like that. Long brown hair and a beard.
Load More Replies...You don't have to believe in religion, but you can't just disrespect the 84% of religious people on this earth by calling it 'shite'.
