I refuse to do the elf on the shelf thing. And to the parents who complain about doing it, it's your own fault for starting it in the first place.
Agreed; I think sometimes it's well-meaning grandparents or other relatives who start it, and the parents don't have enough backbone or imagination to get out of it.
Agreed! I don't do elf on the shelf
I'm not familiar with this Elf on a Shelf thing.. What is it? Is it an American thing?
It's an attempt to make kids behave. It's supposed to be one Santa's spies. Parents move them around the house because they go to the North Pole and back
It's also creepy. There was a list of what people thought about the elf and many expressed a sincere desire to (in one man's words), "Shoot the little M-Fer."
Teaching kids to be paranoid about a spying tattletale who'll report to the authorities is NOT a good parenting technique!!!
I wanted to ask exactly the same question I think i am missing the point in this...
I am an American and I believe it started fairly recently (though I could be wrong) as I only started hearing about it within the last several years and it's kind of popular now. It's not just about kids it's kind of a kitsch thing to do and also a joke like thing people do. It's all in good fun and people get really into it. No harm.
yes is a new tradition because this started in the 2010's and now everyone doing it
Was about to ask the same.
Yeah, it's an American thing... Even though I'm American and nobody did this when I was little. You can check it online. This all started in 2005 when the picture book "The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition" came out... So yeah, it seems the authors made it up and now it's become a sort of tradition. Blearg.
This elf on a shelf thing is creepy! Brrr... I'm surprised the Hollywood horror houses haven't harvested him for some jump scares yet!
Right? He could be Annabelle and Chucky's long lost son that is seeking revenge on the family that separated them and made him do stupid stunts for love or some shit hahahaha
