So a few days ago, Redditor AndShesNotEvenPretty felt inspired when she came across old recipes that looked completely unappetizing by today's standards. Recently I have started noticing that some recipes give you the whole life story and then dive into the recipe with no ingredients list or indications of quantities. This silliness has peaked now. On the other hand some sites are awesome, you can skip the story and then click on a button to toggle bake/cook mode on for your phone and not have your phone screen go black while you are busy.

I have found that quite often there is a selection under the title saying "jump to recipe". Click on that and you skip all the b******t and it takes you straight to the recipe.

there's an app called RecipeBox. if you send an online recipe to the app, it automatically parses out the ingredients and instructions and displays them clearly. love it

Can I upvote this twice? I have come to hate food blogs. I tend to either immediately hit either the “jump to recipe” or “print” option, and if the page is impossible to navigate otherwise, I move on. There are thousands of peach pie recipes, Susan. I dont need your grandpa’s favorite.

There's an app called Copy Me That, copies recipes into an online recipe file for you, has links to the original blog, and you can make notes for your own use. I love it!

that is really an American thing, I search for recipes in Ukrainian and in English. And only American sites have the recipes hidden behind the story of growing this bloody tomato from seed with random extracts about authors husband's bad mood and their child's sport activities. We don't have such BS in our Internets :D

It just feels so contrived. So forced. It reminds me of singing competitions nowadays. The recipe, the voice-it's not good enough on its' own. You need a whole backstory that tugs at your heartstrings. It's easy to get burned out of hearing about a random person's memories/mom/illness/chickens/blueberry patch.

There is a website called "just the recipe.com", you find your recipe, then you copy the link and past it on JTR site and then you get only the ingredient list and the instructions

There is a reason for all that! Recipes are, fundamentally the same; combinations of vegetables, seasoning, herbs, protein etc. All those are cut up in a variety of ways and cooked using a number of methods. Bottom line is that there are only so many combinations of how to make most meals. All the preamble is what is actually being copyrighted because roast chicken portions with mixed veg and rice has been around for centuries!

Click "jump to recipe" then look for a "print" button. Most of the time it will take you to a stripped down page without all the story and ads. That's the page to bookmark.

I sometimes use the starting explanation to see if this is someone who knows their stuff. Like saying the recipe is from their grandma/grandpa or at least that they're from the area where the food is from and have liked since childhood. So many bogus cooks out there....

We managed to get in touch with the user who started this whole thread, AndShesNotEvenPretty, who was kind enough to have a little chat with us. When asked whether she expected her post to reach hundreds of people who wasted no time sharing their opinions in the comments, the user said that it was definitely cool. "But let’s not get too precious here. It’s a Reddit post. All it demonstrates is I had a passing thought that other people identified with," she told Bored Panda.

The user came up with the idea to ask this question while scrolling through the 'Old Recipes' subreddit. "It’s amusing to look back on the trends of yesteryear and realize how much our tastes have changed," she wrote in the post. "Gelatin abominations, iceberg lettuce creations, and protein loaf iterations abound, many of which sound unappetizing by today’s standards. It got me to thinking, what do we eat now that the next generations will find unappealing?"

I have absolutely no use for anyone who uses any of these "pod" devices. 39,000 pods are produced every single minute of the day (20.5 billion per year) of those, 29,000 end up in landfills (15.242 BILLION PER YEAR) You couldn't recycle these things if you wanted to, and manufactures have resisted making that a possibility anyway. Testing has shown that the water in the machines doesn't even get hot enough to do a proper extraction, grounds are OFTEN stale, and there are a myriad of ways that are just as easy (if not more so) to get a cup, that offer exponentially better end product.

People Share What Modern Food Trends They Just Can't Stand Hopefully - industrially farmed meat. It's an incredibly cruel system that inflicts massive amounts of suffering to animals _and_ humans and does great damage to the environment and atmosphere, all for cheap hamburgers. I think we'll look back on it and treat it like other barbaric systems of the past. My hope is that plant based options continue to grow in popularity and people who still choose to eat animal flesh now and then opt for less damaging ones.

People Share What Modern Food Trends They Just Can't Stand Sloppy, wasteful, revolting food concoctions made for the purposes of entertainment. I would hope that in the future someone would be scorned and derided for doing something like covering your entire countertop in spaghetti and chocolate sauce. I would hope that future historians look back on phenomena like that and think something must have seriously been wrong with us.

People Share What Modern Food Trends They Just Can't Stand Meal prep delivery services. It seems like a step in the wrong direction when it comes to wasteful packaging. Every ingredient is individually packaged not to mention perishable ones need extra packaging.

I don't know about this. I occasionally used Hello Fresh and the ingredients were always fresh and very tasty. Everything came in paper bags, so not more packaging than what I would normally buy. My objections are in the price and the estimated prep times.
