It's no secret that Americans do things a little differently from the rest of the world. But, as the first European colony to win independence, they've had lots of time to form the unique identity we associate with them today. So let's take a few moments to celebrate all the quirky and ridiculous little things that make the USA what it is, even if we still fail to understand them.

When the United States broke away from the rest of the European world in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War, a cultural shift began that is still developing today. Though the lands we now know as America mostly share a history of British occupation, tea and crumpets have long been replaced by coffee and donuts. America has given the world countless gifts, such as rock music, groundbreaking cinema, and New York City - in fact, it's probably the most culturally recognizable place on Earth. Still, for those of us on the outside looking in, the United States sometimes seems like a bit of a circus.

Scroll down to see some of America's funniest moments on Tumblr and how the rest of the world reacted. Don't take it personally, though - we've still got love for Yankee Land! (h/t)

At 18 you can be married, drive a car, go into huge debt, vote, and die for your country but you're not responsible enough to buy beer. *Face Palm*

In canada we get 3 applications for free, but we have to pay for more.

That's not true. I had to pay every time I've applied in Canada. It must vary from province to province.

Not just college. When I was in 6th grade, my parents had to pay $75 for every school I applied to

It costs money to apply because it greatly simplifies the application process, just like paying $1 to join a website, it weeds-out 85% of potential applicants who would otherwise just apply to every school, or sign up for every site.

More than 1/2 the jobs at my new university didn't exist at my old one & they didn't need to! The whole damn system is a scam.

It costs money in Bulgaria but it's a symbolic price - like $10-15.

In England education is free till your 20, but you get a loan and only pay it back when you earn enough money too. College applications are always free though.

They're not free because many universities want you to be sure of why ur applying...n not applying just for the heck of it.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't just study correspondence or online, like thru Unisa?http://www.unisa.ac.za

Because studying online, isn't for everyone. Some of us require to be in a class room, to have human interaction with the lecturers.

Except that a bunch of Americans hate Bill for being and atheist and because he tells them that science is correct instead of the BAHBLE.
