It's no secret that Americans do things a little differently from the rest of the world. As the first European colony to win independence, they've had lots of time to form the unique identity we associate with them today. Let's take a few moments to celebrate all the quirky and ridiculous little things that make the USA what it is, even if we still fail to understand them.
When the United States broke away from the rest of the European world in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War, a cultural shift began that is still developing today. Though the lands we now know as America mostly share a history of British occupation, tea and crumpets have long been replaced by coffee and donuts. America has given the world countless gifts, such as rock music, groundbreaking cinema, and New York City - in fact, it's probably the most culturally recognisable place on Earth. Still, for those of us on the outside looking in, the United States sometimes seems like a bit of a circus.

I think you're absolutely right about being able to be #1 and still have flaws. However, unfortunately, the US isn't really #1 in ANYTHING anymore... We're not world leaders in energy, education, health, or really anything aside from having a massive military.

That one moment someone calls you a Brit because you don’t act like an American. Anyway, this is unfortunately true for 98% of Americans at least. People get so strung up on the “America First” ideology and believe that it’s the best country ever. Canada, taking into consideration how pacifistic the country seems to be, has beaten the US in combat before. That speaks volumes. The US never was and frankly will probably never be the best.
