Recently, Mister Global, a male beauty pageant took place in Thailand. The event was founded in 2014 and since its first edition over 60 countries have sent their representatives to compete for the Mister Global Title. This year, 38 beautiful men decided to test their strengths in the pageant. The final was held in Bangkok on September 26 with the “Inspiring Gentleman” theme. However, this event is not merely a beauty contest, even though one of the main requirements of contestants is to be 'good looking' as the spokesperson of the pageant, Kitti Kamjunsa, told Bored Panda. "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness, and we have been promoting this cause ever since we started in 2014. This year, we added a new motto "Inspiring Gentleman" because we believe that the contestants and titleholders should motivate others and be inspirational people. During this year's pageant, we did a fundraising event to support an organization that takes care of elephants in Thailand and it was successful, " Kamjunsa said. When asked what makes Mister Global different from other pageants the spokesperson explained: "Basically every pageant system is identical but what makes Mister Global different from the others is that we are part of the Top 5 Grand Slam Male Pageants. We have good quality contestants with inspiring stories to tell and great support from our national directors from around the world. We have also garnered much support from our many fans that follow us on our website and the official page. Most importantly, we are true on our advocacy of Environmental Awareness and charity cause."

The pageant was won by Korea‘s Jong Woo Kim, who is a 23-year-old police administration student and model. Jong Woo Kim is set to become an inspirational role model for young men all around the world. He will also become a Global Goodwill Ambassador and participate in environmental and charitable projects.

Same as every year, the most attention goes to pageant's national outfits showcase. After all, the representatives get the chance to demonstrate their countries heritage. "For us, we are really surprised that it went viral around the world and we welcome many positive comments. However, the creative costumes segment is nothing new in any pageant system as it has always been a part of it. The winning costume is not about the size or design but the story and culture behind it," Kamjunsa said. The national costume contest was won by Myanmar, it's safe to say that most of the contestants made their homelands' proud by rocking well crafted and intricate costumes. Right - for those have who their knickers in a twist saying that it's wrong to have a Boer dressed as a Zulu... he's not. I can see at least seven different cultures represented by what that guy is wearing. It's actually a pretty smart way to incorporate just about everyone who lives in South Africa in one image.

His costume looks very functional. It's not as extravagant as the others, but looks like something he'll get a lot of use from. It's like I'm looking in a book about his country and see this pic.

Nice Lion costume. I like that they kept the Lion Head simple-ish and not overly flashy/inlaid with decorative horns/jewels/eyelashes so as not to overshadow the human.

This is Manchurian dress as opposed to Chinese dress - a Chinese Changshan would only have two splits, a Mandarin collar, and no hanging seal from the belt.

Honestly, as a Puerto Rican. I think they did macrame but not with rope like that, and I also feel they got lazy with this. If this costume was made for like a contest. Lord forgive me, but its f*****g terrible. And im kinda annoyed 😅

Yeah no brazilian wears this as well. This national costume gimmick only works with small countries with only a few cultural group. If we did the same contest for brazilian states we would get a lot of different costumes and if we did the same for indigenous people in Brazil we also woukd get lots of diferente costumes because guess what, huge country many cultures.

Since there's a lot of people here that doesn't know nothing of nothing and still wants to give an opinion, I'll tell you: there's no such thing as a Brazil, there's Brazil's, and his costume surely represents the country the same as if were an indigenous or an african one. Brazil is not a monolith and that homogeneous image created by some regimes during the history of the nation having Rio de Janeiro in the center is totally dumb and biased, and was used to destroy local ethos and cultures in the name of positivism. A lot of rebellions started because of that, from Antonio Conselheiro on the Northeast to the separatist war in the South. So please, stop this nonsense and stop hating people from whatever place in Brazil for not having the same cultural background as you. THIS IS BRAZIL! Brazil is the Italy, the Africa, the Portugal, the inumerous indigenous nations and all the other ethos that live within the national cosmos. Don't be ridiculous, the gaúcho culture is Brazil.

And before you guys come argue that his clothes are not 100% faithful to the original - none of the represented by the other nations are, that's why they're adaptations.

Its from rio grande do sul, its supposed to be a gaucho and the colors are the colors of the state flag. But in all honesty this is so close to the border that it looks more like an Argentinian or Uruguayan gaucho, most people dont wear this type of dress at all.

"would you have done better? I don't think so lol" that's not the point of criticism. Assuming you're not from Brazil and you see your country in this list and do not recognize the outfit I truly believe you would react similarly. It's supposed to represent your country, after all. The criticisms are fair. If it's supposed to represent whoever the model wants to represent, then it's another story, however.

A lot of Brazilians saying "omg I'm Brazilian and I have never seen this..." First of all, yes you have. This is fro the south, very easy to notice by the flags. Secondly, Brazil is a huge country that seems like 3 or more countries part of one, so it's quite hard to choose one thing in specific to represent it all...

"Oh, you get to dress up in a costume that represents Brazil? That's awesome! You can make an amazing Carnival costume that will awe everyone, or a touching homage to our natives culture that really displays your body..." "Hmm... no. Instead I'm going to ignore everything that everyone would like to see, and dress in a drab suit that references my very insular and largely unknown southist culture, because to me, the most important thing about Brazil, is always stresing how much the South is different from the rest of Brazil..." And that's how our contestant finished only two places ahead from the guy that just wore a flag, and they guy doing the worst Superman cosplay ever.

What does Brazil look like after all??? How can you represent a country so mixed in so many levels?? Dictating that Brazil should be represented by carnival outfits, samba and indigenous garments is excluding everyone else. I am actually happy to see someone wearing southern traditional outfits. For those who don't know, Rio grande do sul is also part of Brazil. I would actually be happy to see someone wearing a traditional outfit do Cangaço, Bahia, etc... variety for a change. You are welcome.

While superman may be "native" to USA (its "birth" country) it is not "native" in the same way that all the other costumes are. I feel that using an indian (as in native american) would've been a much better choice.
