Family Gets A Shock Of A Lifetime When Their Dog Returns After Disappearing 10 Years Ago
49Kviews
There are many stories of pets going missing and finding their way back to their owners, but the story of a black labrador Abby is something unique and beautiful.
10 years ago, Debra Suierveld, the owner of Abby, together with her children were playing with the one-year-old pup in the backyard of their home in Apollo, Pennsylvania. At some point, the dog ran off, and even though the family searched everywhere for her, she was nowhere to be found. After some time searching with no luck, the heartbroken family declared Abby dead.
But this wasn’t the end of this story. 10 years later, Abby showed up on a porch of a house 8 miles away from her owner’s house. She was brought to a shelter, where the dog was identified based on the information in her microchip that the Suiervelds had implanted back when she was a pup.
Debra was taken by surprise when she got a call that her dog was found and called it a miracle.
It’s unknown where the dog was for all these years, but it’s so amazing to know, that Abby back at her loving home.

I'm not saying it was Aliens but.... Aliens
Why not? everything is possible... Aliens love dogs too. <3
Wait...so they just reclaimed this pupper after all that time? She doesn't know she was lost and what about the folks that raised her for all those years?? They just split them all up? I don't like this story one bit.
Well, they don't know what exactly happened to her for that decade, but it is quite possible another family took her in. In fact, Abbey could have run away from THEM and gotten lost. I agree. This story just has something odd about it...
Well, according to the story in the link, the dog was microchipped by the original owner. If there is no information about any other family, then they would return her to the family that had her chipped. The place that she showed up at was a third party house, who contacted the police, who in turn, contacted an animal shelter. It seems that everyone did everything the way it should have been done, and the story doesn't mention anyone else showing up to claim the dog, or even reporting her missing. What else should have been done, under these circumstances?
Chess Wizard, You're right... The circumstances are pretty strange, but now that I think about it, yes, there wasn't much else to be done. Thanks for taking the time to reply :)
In addition, if another family had taken her in and took her to the vet, why didn't the vet check for a chip? Did the new family not take her to the vet at all? When I take in a stray, that's the first thing I do. She could easily have been returned to her family ten years ago had somebody just taken a moment to check for that chip.
10 years ago microchip weren't as common, and chip companies were bad about having their data scanned by different devices. (So 3 different chip companies would require 3 different scanners. ) They are getting better about it now, but some companies are still stupid about it.
So why didn't the family that found this 'stray pup get her micro checked? They are the bad ones here not the original family. And they didn't just split them up. The dog turned up at another house near the first owners of its own accord.
Well if they took a dog in and didn't have it checked for a chip, and then did not have their own info put in for 10 years....how would anyone know who had her
You are missing the point of this story. Wouldn't you be ecstatic if a dog you lost/ went missing after ten years. True someone else had to be taking care of her. But all of the details aren't in the story. May have been a perfectly happy ending.
The Dodo posted the story too lately, Debra found Abby again in a shelter!!!
Well, it could be the other way round: now she is old her "adoptive" family did not want her anymore and throw her out. One never knows...
So we don't even get to know what happened to the dog for the last 10 years? :( Great she'll already, of course.
Witness protection program
Above top secret 😉
Well I don't know about top secret, but there is what is called the Puppy Protection program. Kinda like witness protection. It is a loosely ran program where people basically take animals out of bad situations because the law cannot do anything (no physical evidence). I am sure a lot of people would consider the Program as not right, but basically the dog is stolen from the neglector and given to a family that takes care of and helps the neglected dog. Usually finding them a new permanent home somewhere else. I do not think that was the case here. Just figured I would share. Usually a number of Vets in an area are in on this program. Helping to make sure the dogs are healthy and up to date on shots before sending along to a new home.
I guess she didn't want to talk about it ....
