Woman Shares What Workplace Perks Millennials Would Give Up In Exchange For These 8 Benefits
For some people, having a job that they love or a successful career is one of their goals in life. And of course, hard work and years of experience mean getting high pay and maybe some additional perks to keep that motivation. But no matter how right that sounds, it’s not always the case that those who put in a lot of effort in their workplace get the corresponding salary.
TikTok user @millennialmoneywitch decided to share what she decided to reply to a reporter who asked her “what perks millennials want in the workplace.” In the video, which now has more than 900k views, the woman stated that what workers want is not perks but “better pay and benefits.”

Jessie DaSilva is an intuitive mindset coach helping people to find, understand and follow their passions by turning them into a business or successful career path. In her blog, the woman revealed that she herself was one of those people who were taught that “hating your job is normal.”
This TikToker decided to share what she replied to a reporter who asked her what perks millennials want from their workplace

The woman was quite honest and explained that “free avocado toast and nap pods” won’t help as people need actual benefits

In her video, DaSilva was quite upset with the question she got and even admitted that “there’s no way they’re going to pick me for this story.” When looking for a job, one of the main factors is the pay that the person gets for their job. And now it has become quite popular to lure in people with many comfortable benefits such as snacks, drinks, game and break rooms, etc. But what was forgotten over time is that these are only additional perks, not something a person actually thinks of when they look for a job.

Having this in mind, DaSilva elaborately explained what millennials really want from a workplace and what other problem this situation reveals. What “millennials” or people from the ages of 25 to 40 want is a high salary, considerable benefits, vacation time, and opportunities to acquire additional skills and expertise within the company.
She “ranted” to this reporter about the struggles that millennials go through to get a well-paid job with good benefits

The problem that the woman addressed was that looking at the age of millennials, it can be seen that they are no longer inexperienced or uneducated people who are only looking for their career path. These are people who have a degree and enough experience to find a well-paying job that can provide them with multiple benefits and securities, allowing them to have time that could be spent with their families.

The coach also mentioned that because of the pandemic, people have become more understanding and pickier when it comes to jobs as they no longer want to work for low pay or have to take another unpaid internship. So what they want from their future employers is not a free cup of coffee or an avocado toast, but a higher than minimum wage with an opportunity to get a raise, healthcare benefits, and four-week vacation time as well as paid parental leave.
At the end of her rant, she does provide the reporter with things that help to attract new talent

Share on FacebookThe issue is that many Boomers look at all generations younger than them as children...no matter how old we are. Proof? Look at the "perks" being offered. Nap pods? Are we in kindergarten?
Boomers were born in the years 1946 – 1964 so unless the business owner is well into their retirement years you are trashing the wrong generation
Load More Replies...The cheap, selfish sociopathic jerks running most of the major businesses are always looking for a way of scamming people into working for them instead of sharing any of the profits. So they look for ways to replace actual wages with cheap gimmicks at the workplace that cost a fraction of what paying people a living wage would cost. And they delude themselves that it will work, too. And this has not a damned thing to do with Boomers...we have Millennial managers just as eager to rip off and exploit their employees as anyone older than them are.
Half of the issue here is cost of living increases, especially rent. Where I live property owners raise rents $100.00 a year, I know of nobody who gets raises to cover that expense, so the longer you are a renter, the less money you actually have
Yet another post on how crappy the US workplace is. US bosses need to realise that social media and globalisation makes it possible for US workers to see very clearly how things are in other countries, and wonder why they don't have these, to us very normal, workplace benefits.
yes yes yes for MIllennials AND Gen X and Boomers and humanity in general!!!
Folks, many boomers are of retirement age & more of us each passing day. I will be so glad when there are so few of us we can't be blamed for everything. If your boss is 51 as of this year they are not a Boomer. They were born in 1970. I'm a Boomer. I had just started high school then. Thus, many bosses out there now are not boomers. Nap pods & all the other "perks", blame massive companies like Google for starting that. All the things being asked for are not unreasonable in today's work world. In Canada a woman can take up to a year of leave after having a baby. It is paid for by the govt at the rate of Employment Insurance, so it's less money, but it's there. OH THAT EVIL SOCIALISM!! It's up to your employer to deal with that absence. Only six weeks is cruel. When women have to return to work while still breastfeeding & may have to leave their six week old baby in daycare, which is expensive, is insane. I can't imagine the intense worry. "Perks" are useless. It's about having a life.
While there are a few Gen Xers creeping into senior management every year, they're the ones who thrived in the Boomer-built system and see no reason to fix it because "it worked for them" and the rest of us just didn't pull hard enough on our bootstraps.
Load More Replies...I'm with the OP on most of this, but a 5% increase in salary to cover inflation... inflation in 2020 was 1.2%. If companies had to increase *all* salaries by 5% annually they'd go out of business.
In the UK the cost of housing is excluded from government inflation calculations.

This is part of why these benefits don't come to fruition, too busy arguing with each other instead of standing together and making a change.
Let me phrase this differently, since I pi$$ed off too many, and I apologize. You caught me on my IATA day. ______ Most of the world would like it. Lack of perspective is had here, due to buying the (Wall_Street-backed) fantasy that a degree makes you more imprptant and more valuable than the guy who fixes your car, pipes, and lights. No. My fam's blue collar after they leave the military. No illusions: Degrees only help in some careers, but its' not a golden ticket. It stopped being one around Reagan's second term in the US, my late sis walking out of college into $27K, no experience ---- adjust for the inflation, about $62K in 2020. Wouldn't that be great? .... And why has anyone believed this since 30 years ago? Why didn't parents saved up, instead of buying bigger houses/cars? Why? ....

Load More Replies...Late gen x here. These are fantasies only because companies are paying their CEO’s too damn much. The wage gap has blown up in the past thirty years. Just because we had it bad doesn’t mean everyone has to. Millennials aren’t kids. They’re in their thirties supporting families. To me these sound like basic human rights. Being able to support a family AND spend time with them. Being able to have a fulfilling job AND afford health care. Opportunity for growth helps the employees and the company. Job retention will skyrocket. This would require a Herculean effort from the government that ain’t gonna happen because they make their money off the backs of wage slaves. How is that ok?
