Fed Up With Being Painted As “Irresponsible Spring Breakers,” Millennials Remind The World How Old They Actually Are
We are all probably pretty used to different generations rarely seeing eye-to-eye by now. Older people’s opinions often get dismissed with a simple “ok, boomer,” millennials get blamed for being lazy and entitled, and in the meantime, no one seems to have figured out how old Gen Z should be by now.
Apparently, the recent events regarding the coronavirus pandemic seem to become a battlefield for the generations yet again. A lot of media outlets have published catchy titles and blamed millennials for taking the pandemic lightheartedly and swarming the beaches despite health officials’ recommendations of self-isolation and quarantine. But it seems that millennials might turn the tables as they have swarmed Twitter instead of those beaches—all that in an attempt to explain that they’re actually too old to be going on spring break.
You may have seen some news outlets guilt-tripping millennials for partying during spring break despite the pandemic

There seems to be a lot of confusion between different generations. While some of them are caused by cultural differences and age gaps, some of them are caused by confusion over who belongs to which generation. Most sources agree that baby boomers are the people born between 1946 and 1963, while Generation X are people born between 1965 and 1975.
They blamed millennials for not taking the pandemic seriously
“One of the things that terrifies me now is, as this is spread in the west is, there’s this sense of invulnerability among millennials.”
Millennials aren’t taking the coronavirus seriously, warns WHO’s Dr. Bruce Aylward https://t.co/Ose4I0Whph pic.twitter.com/vuaL5kd8jz
— TIME (@TIME) March 20, 2020
There is some confusion regarding millennials, though. Most sources state that millennials, or Gen Y, are born between 1977 and 1995, while others argue that they’re born between 1982 and 2000. The generation born after them is known as Generation Z, iGen, or Centennials.
Some even encouraged the millennials to grow up

Retired psychologist Arvin Engelmaan says it’s normal among psychologists to expect a lack of solidarity between generations. “It’s a vicious cycle,” he says. “Everyone tends to forget different generations are dependent on one another in so many complex ways. We as people should seek to overcome our differences and all unite as one, instead of avoiding shared responsibility and putting blame on each other.”
It seems that it was the last straw for a lot of millennials as they swarmed Twitter to explain they’re actually too old to be going on spring break

He instantly digs deeper and says the reason for the lack of solidarity that can be observed among different generations is most likely caused by unresolved personal issues people have with their parents and encourages people to “find your peace with them. That doesn’t mean you have to become best friends. Just allow each other to make mistakes.”

Share on FacebookBesides the problem with confusing generations, I see another problem in this tweet - America is not the greatest nation on Earth. If so, they would have a health care system which would not be the same or even worse than the third-world countries...
I can't upvote this enough. I don't know where Americans get all this confidence from. To say that it's the greatest country when it's literally falling to pieces? I wouldn't live there even if they paid me to do so.
Load More Replies...I did not have the SLIGHTEST idea I was a millennial. And I could not care less if X, Y, Z, W or whatever f*****g letter of the alphabet is out there. Get your asses inside, regardless of your age, 'cause at the end the only place where your birth year will matter, will be that one on your tombstone.
Sure millennials shouldn't be used as a blanket word to describe young poopheads, but can we not use gen z either? Just say " some young poopheads aren't taking this seriously enough during their spring break" because no one entire generation should be blamed for the stupid actions of a small percentage of the group.
How about fucktards? I think that's a great word for them!!
Load More Replies...It actually depends on where you look... The United States Census Bureau used the birth years 1982 to 2000.
Ok that's a good source I guess. The one I just saw had millennial from 79 to 97.
Load More Replies...And boomers were born during the baby boom. Hence the name. The youngest one was born in like 1964. I was born in 1978. Gen x. But just a year or two away from being a millennial but 14 years away from being a boomer. Everyone older than 40 is not a boomer and everyone younger is not a millennial. The youngest is like 24. I hate the blanket terms because 90% of the time people are wrong.
And the baby boom was different from place to place. Where I am, the youngest boomer was born in 55/56.
Load More Replies...And where I live in Spain it's the elderly that don't give a s**t and still go out for a smoke, stroll or just to meet their friends and chill, despite the curfew.
It's a bit like when Millennials call literally anybody older than them a Boomer, even though there is an entire Generation between Boomers and Millennials.
Ohhh and America is not the "greatest nation". We all know America's school systems suck, they have gun problems, most of whites are racists, and they destroy the planet most. Not to mention most Americans think America is" the big one here" *points to Russia on the map*

In Ireland and all across Europe, 30-65 year olds were out with their kids at the beaches and parks last weekend, like a bunch of idiots and so now half of europe is on lockdown. My mother was out and about the last week and my father, and he has the lung capacity of a squirrel. The whole world needs to wise up before 250m people die!
The whole world needs to be compassionate towards all sentient beings, cruelty to animals - exotic or domesticated - destruction of their habitats is what brought about all those deadly viruses and bacteria. Don't forget it, please!!!!! If you don't change the way you live, there will be more viruses coming and the'll be more potent and hard to contain than ever!!!
Load More Replies...Here's a thought: Why don't we all stop using labels to dehumanize entire groups of individuals? It's everyone's job right now to practice good hygiene and social responsibility. Old people, young people, all of us. No single generation is to blame here, regardless of what name you assign to them.
As somebody from the generation of pompous brats, I'm no pompous brat. I would celebrate spring break by drawing, or maybe playing some video games... you know... UNDER QUARANTINE. Then again, I'm only going on twenty, and never been much of a party kind of guy. So, here's what I have to say... All you dumb partyers on spring break are making a whole generation look like selfish, spoiled brats. Even those like me who put his life on hold because of the quarantine; my family was planning their last vacation before my sister ships out into the military, and we're trying to hold onto money to pay for things we may need. I included, a guy researching jobs, had to put his life on hold for this, so why do you get to party on a beach? Maybe in the summer to celebrate the virus going away, but not in the middle of a pandemic for crying out loud! It's making all young people look like pompous brats! It's stupid!
And gen z speaking here: I live in a village. I play days and days Minecraft. I also paint and read. I go to art school. I am the one to do my homework. I have all a's at school. I am the one to yell: shhh I'm studying" or "shh I want to sleep, I have to wake up at 7am in the morning" I think more mature than most boomers do. Come and say all gen z kids are irresponsible idiots.
WhatEVER label you accept, young people are doing this. If it ain’t you, find a guilty GenZ and kick them to their house and lock them in!
Those, regardless of age, who are responsible and universally empathetic are alike, those who are not are "different" to put it mildly, they are those who seek confrontation, and harbor hatred against "progressives".
Load More Replies...What even does the gen x, z, boomer, or anything else have to do with this? People are partying and that's bad. Why does someone's generation change that? If someone that's gen z is an idiot, that doesn't make everyone that's gen z an idiot!
This sucks! A lot of gen Z people are very irresponsible, and millennials are being responsible. As a younger gen Z, I am personally staying inside all the time, but I can say that gen Z’s are worse than millennials right now!
As a Gen Xer, I can say that watching some Gen Z people not take the coronavirus seriously is not that surprising since too many young people (esepecially college-age) truly think they are invulnerable. As for the Boomers who think they can do what they want and refuse to be told to stay home, well, I have to shake my head and wonder what they could possibly be thinking. Everytime someone near me complains about those irresponsible Millennials out partying I promptly remind them that it's Gen Z, and only some Gen Z at that. My daughter is Gen Z and is much smarter than those dummies on the beaches risking infection for the sake of a party.
we should not lump irresponsible behavior together with a particular generation, it only dismisses those that are being responsible, and gives them less incentive to continue doing so.
Hey milennials!!! Perhaps more of the Gen X'ers and Boomers would know your plight if you post your comments on FACEBOOK where we all are.... We don't twitter much. LoL
I am a "millennial". Even if there was no viral pandemic currently sweeping the globe, I still wouldn't be partying over "spring break" because I'm a 33-year-old who feels physically and mentally closer to 83, and the last time I partied we danced to MMMBop by Hanson, which was a new release. Since we are in lockdown, however, I'm using the extra downtime to sleep, because I'm too old to think I'm invincible enough to get wasted every night. Plus I'm poor.
1985 Millennial here and I am getting tired of the generation wars. No generation is better than any other and have all made mistakes. Whether you are a boomer, gen x, y, or z; do what the health professionals have told and stay inside your house. It also doesn't matter if you are an American, Canadian, Chinese, Italian, or whatever will can all get COVID19 and it is very serious. Let's stop the political wars and the generation wars and just be what we all have in common: the fact that we are Earthlings. Also at this point, it doesn't really matter whether the Earth is round or flat.
Gen X'er here. Returned to school after retirement. ON SPRING BREAK!!!!!! whoo-hoo! -Dr M
My grandma is gen X. She is not like a boomer. She lived through at least 2 wars. Most of her brothers died, before they even reached 20's
S**t... now you all have me downloading Animal Crossing to play...
These made me cringe too. Millennial here and 34. The last time I went to a “party” was for my 25th birthday. You’re wanting the tide pod eating generation doing this stupidity.
Stop blaming the Millennials for going on spring break &spreading Covdi,-19 remember there are two millennial generations older & younger. The oldest around late 30s & the youngest in the mid 20s so maybe blame the younger millennials or the generation after Millennials Generation Z. I am a elder Millennial &am stuck at home not on SPRING break worrying when am going back to work and how am I going to buy my bills next month I have more important things worry about so stop blaming us
They are quite literally helping spread the virus. F**k 'em.

Boomers just can't figure out who they hate so they hate everyone. And Gen X is getting just as annoying. I'm right between the two and I'm ashamed of so many of them.

Load More Replies...Ah, so millennials that love to say "ok boomer" as an insult to those older than them, are now insulted because everyone thinks their young twerps and they don't like it Haha. Most millennials under 35 are still lazy & irresponsible and live with their boomer parents. So, until then you're not much different than the spring breaker, Gen Z aholes. (Millennials that fall into the responsible, unselfish category are exempt from this comment.)
literally what does it matter? they said millennials, they meant gen z, everyone knew what they meant. They should get it right, you should get a life.
They are journalists, they should now what they're writing about; so it does matter.
Load More Replies...Millennials have a pretty solid argument for being angry that the prior generations have saddled them with a massive national debt. My sympathy for them goes out the f-ing window when they go out for spring break in the middle of a viral pandemic. Suck it up, millennials. You just earned your crushing debt.
Foxxy, the Generation Z goes out for spring break, not millennials - they're out of college.
