OK, I know "mildly interesting" doesn't sound as exciting as "nature is f**king lit" or "nature is metal" but this subreddit also features lit and metal pictures of Mother Earth.

Since its creation in 2012, r/MildlyInteresting has become one of the biggest communities on Reddit. It has over 18.7 million members, with thousands browsing the sub at any given moment.

As Bored Panda showed in our previous article, nature is one of the most popular themes in this colorful corner of the Internet—whether it's a random fact or a unique photo, the surprises keep on coming. Continue scrolling and check out the most recent ones.

Spending some time in nature is really beneficial even if you come back without a cool photo to upload on r/MildlyInteresting. The fresh air, the sun on our skin; sometimes a short walk outside is all we need to feel refreshed and revived. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The University of Michigan, for example, conducted a study that revealed students who regularly went for a nature walk actually had a better time retaining information.

In a world where we are surrounded by screens, taking the time to unplug and go outside can do wonders for reducing stress as well. Nature has a calming effect on our brains, even if we are going outside for just five minutes each day. Plus, outdoor exercise, like going for a walk, hiking, and so forth, gets the blood flowing and heart pumping, another way to lower stress levels.

It is a woodpecker, the feet of a woodpecker is not made to sit or walk on, but to hold the bird in a vertical position against a tree trunk, So when on a flat surface it is very uncomfortable for the bird.

Studies also show that getting between 15 to 20 minutes a day of sunshine will allow your body to produce vitamin D, which helps strengthen bones and reduce the risk of cancer, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

Furthermore, research has shown that going outdoors can help boost the immune system.

Maybe the little owl did something wrong and the fairies turned him into a mushroom!

Some of the health benefits of nature are due to people getting more active when they are outside.

But research shows that even sitting still in nature (as with Japanese “forest bathing”) can improve health.

Patricia H Hasbach, PhD, a licensed psychotherapist and ecotherapist in Eugene, Oregon, said nature also provides a break from hours of mentally tiring “directed attention” — time spent focused on our work, our computer screen, driving.

“When people interrupt directed attention with even just brief times outdoors, they tend to allow for more involuntary attention,” Hasbach explained. “This becomes quite restorative for when people have to go back to directed attention.”

These benefits, however, only show up if you put down your smartphone and give nature your full attention, whether it’s a breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon or a tree near your apartment.

This is in Dunbar on the East Coast of Scotland and that is Bass Rock in the background which is famous on its own. Its one of the biggest gannet populations in the world, used to have a jail under where the lighthouse is. https://outaboutscotland.com/bass-rock/

Tideway. Do be mindful of them when going out at low tide. They are passageways by which the tide flows in and out, and might cut you off from the land if you pass them carelessly and get the timing wrong. They can be deep and torrential and dangerous when the tide comes in, even if they looked inconspicuous when you crossed them. If you want to be safe when exploring at low tide, check where the safe areas are and stick to those places.

Yeah, my mother lives on an island in Maine, and there's another a small uninhabited island adjacent to it that's accessible by a sandbar during low tide. If you walk over there and explore for too long, the tide comes in and you're either staying for another six hours or wading/swimming to get back to the big island.

I've been there! Stumbled across it on accident and almost got stranded on the beach when the tide started coming in! It is in Dunbar, Scotland

I mean, if you didn’t realize the tide was coming in, you could always wait on the bridge until it went back out enough to walk to safety, right?

If you look up Bridge To Nowhere on the net you will find the pictures of it when the tide is out. Its apparently in Scotland

It's not. When the tide is out, the sands at Dunbar are vast. This bridge allows you to cross a stream that remains even when the tide is right out. The stream is too deep to want to wade through. So it is a VERY useful bridge. I have crossed it 100 times.

I'm a bit confused about a bridge on a beach. Dealing with water is part of the deal, surely?

Would you rather wade across the waist-deep, freezing cold stream that this bridge spans?

Nope. If the tide is out, it goes from A to B. Otherwise, why on earth would the engineer have put the bridge there?

And when the tide comes in, it provides a safe place for poor planners. I once got very close to a dangerous situation as a kid when my friend and I were frolicking on a sandbar and the tide came in fast. Parents didn’t know where we were... no cell phones back then. We were on the Maine coast, in the winter, wearing jeans. The water was painfully icy and the jeans made it even harder to move. I learned a lot that day.

Well, that is presumably because the engineers wanted to avoid it being submerged in salt water twice a day, and rusting quickly. You can see how high the tide gets. That is how *high* tide works.

Nope. I go there to walk my dog, not to freeze to death in the icy water. Are you seriously suggesting that everyone - older people, children, etc - wade through freezing cold, deep water to access the beach? And then get hypothermia walking your dog for 2 hours in the Scottish weather and wind, whilst soaking wet? You would literally die of cold!

All fruitful trees produce twins and triplet fruits. That's why farmers select and leave on the tree only the good fruits and drop the others in an early stage, so they can have a good harvest.
