The UK’s Messiest Bedrooms Of 2020 Have Just Been Revealed And They’re Leaving Some People In Shock And Disgust
Have you ever looked around your bedroom, realized how unbelievably messy it got, and thought to yourself: "Man, why am I like this?" If your answer is yes, well, these 16 photos might help you feel a tiny bit better about yourself.
The company called Bed SOS held a photo competition with a goal to find the messiest bedroom in the United Kingdom. "Competition by Bed SOS to find out who in the UK has the messiest bedroom. The winner will receive a free bed worth up to £400," Bed SOS wrote in the post announcing the competition. Apparently, the company received over 300 entries from across the country. Of course, the quarantine might have something to do with it.
The winners of the competition have just been announced, and let us tell you, the photos are not disappointing at all. So, without further ado, Bored Panda invites you to look inside the UK's messiest bedrooms of the year 2020.

"Claire from Farnham says she doesn’t dare enter her son’s bedroom. And with the mountain of rubbish, we don’t blame her."
There is NO way I would allow a room in my home to get this filthy, son or not. The roaches and other critters this attracts will NOT remain only in his room! God have mercy on his future wife! Gross.
"We received more than 300 entries from across the country, and the top prize was awarded to Sara from Northern Ireland, whose messy bedroom would give Oscar the Grouch a run for his money!"
If you look closely you can see that all of this is on a table with an open drawer.
"Mollie McAllister from Northamptonshire sent in this photo of a former tenant’s bedroom. Safe to say they didn’t get their deposit back."
"We understand sometimes it’s hard to keep on top of tidying, especially if you’re out and about with a busy lifestyle. However some of the entrants of our recent competition really shocked us with their levels of messiness!" Bed SOS writes in their post announcing the winners. "So, we wanted to help one untidy entrant by providing them with a brand new bed to create a new look for their bedroom (and hopefully inspire them to keep it looking fresh)."
"With a carton of beer as well as a full pizza and garlic bread scattered across the floor, Havering lad Luke’s bedroom seems to double as a dining room."
"Vishal from Northampton shared this shocking image of a former tenant’s room that took 52 black bin bags to clean! With the bed being the only place free from takeaway packets, we dread to think what the room smelt like."
I have depression, my room has never looked like this!
Load More Replies...Anyone seen my car keys? I think I'm pretty sure I put them in the Big Mac carton so I wouldn't lose them... or maybe it was a milkshake beaker. What? The McNuggets 36 box? Uhm... yeah, could be...
I'm more concerned with this person's cholesterol level based on their food and drink choices.
ate any fast food recently 🍔🍟🌮🍕🥡🍱🍜🍛🍲🥣🥣🥣🥗 sorry i found tooo many emojis to go with this comment
"Another pink-themed mess from John in Liverpool, at least it looks like your daughter is making use of all of her toys!"
Bed SOS also shared a few simple tips that should help people with keeping their bedroom nice and clean. "Having a messy bedroom can impact your quality of sleep, and also increase stress levels. To keep your bedroom from looking like a jumble sale, here are five easy tips for you to stick to," the post reads. The tips include eliminating the floordrobe, investing in smart storage solutions, clearing out unused items, creating a cleaning schedule and making your bed.
"Sarah from Studley exposed her teenage son’s messy bedroom by sending in a whole gallery of photos – not sure he’ll be inviting his friends round anytime soon."
"'This is a clean day for me!' admitted Audrey from Derbyshire when she submitted her picture. We’d hate to see her bedroom on a messy day!"
"Olivia from Manchester says that she’s 'waiting for the house to be refurbished at the moment so there’s no room for clothes', fair enough, that is quite the floor-drobe."
the cat looks not too jazzed you should see my cat in my messy room SMASH CRASH DESTROY!!!😫
"With so many lovely clothes and a dresser full of haircare products and cosmetics, it’s clear that Nicole from Manchester cares a lot about her looks. But she could do with bringing the same attitude to her bedroom…"
"'This mess only took my toddler five minutes!” says Sel from Norfolk – hopefully it will be just as quick to tidy it up!'
"'I think it’s time for a little declutter!' says Anneka from Shropshire… we think so too Anneka!"
This one isn't as bad, they are just too lazy to fold their clothes...
"Angela from Staffordshire is sick of her kids’ mess, she says ‘When they move out, we’re setting fire to the room and starting again!’"
Oh dear. If the kids are old enough to know that this is wrong, just grab a roll of bin bags and clear out their stuff. Hide it in the attic if you really can't let go of it, but it's time to teach them a lesson...and some life skills....
"Grace from Bradford admits that ‘this is actually cleaner than usual!’ – we can’t even imagine what it usually looks like!"
"Zoe from Plymouth shared her daughter and daughter’s boyfriend’s room… you might want to let them know it’s time to empty that bin, Zoe!"
"Toni from Cheltenham shared this photo of her daughter’s room – at least most of the mess fits with the pink colour scheme."
I thought I was messy until I saw this post, now feel sick after seeing those rooms. Thank god we can't smell them too.
Yeah, my place is not at all spartan or organized. I have stacks of books, art supplies, and unorganized shelves. I also rarely dust. ... But I never have food containers just stacked up, clothes on the floor, etc. ever.
Load More Replies...I don't understand why someone would want to compile a list like this. For one thing, it's disgusting and really not nice to look at. For another, these people obviously need help. There's nothing about this post that I would class as entertaining.
Yeah, I just felt sad this isnt really entertainment or informative
Load More Replies...This is what depression looks like to me. When you just stop trying. So sad..
No doubt some of those people are depressed and I feel bad for them... But I'm sure a significant proportion of them are just incredibly lazy and had their mums clean up after them all their life before they moved out.
Load More Replies...Please make this list into a very satisfying "Before and after cleaning up a messy room " post . Please! This is hard to look at and gives me anxiety.
For the ones where they sent in a picture of their kids room. Why do they let their room get that bad? I my mom would have heart attack if I had a room even 1/3 rd the mess of those rooms.
As a kid, I was never allowed to make messes like these. Plus, Saturday was dedicated to cleaning. No choice. Just did it or face my mom's wrath.
Load More Replies...All of these people should probably join “Unfuck your Habitat“. They have cleaning and tidying tips for mentally ill and disabled people as well as regular people who can't get on top of their mess.
Have any of you seen the tv show Hoarders? These rooms are neat and tidy in comparison
Yeah, but these look like they are hoarders in the making.
Load More Replies...I believe there's a whole jungle and even an elf forest in there...
Load More Replies...Well, i feel better about my room now! I assume people submitted their own stuff, and they are just like this. If they are depressed, then I'm really sorry. Been in that neighborhood, not fun
This are borderline hording... why is it celebrated by winning a contest?
😷 eww. Bad smells. My bedroom is large clean and tidy up. Empty the floor.
I admit, I'm not a neat n tidy person (books everywhere, I tend to have a floordrobe) but these are horrifying. They look like my mother's bedroom (food packaging, medication boxes, soiled clothing, dirty tissues and personal hygiene products all over the place with nowhere to walk). It's nauseating and the smell is unbelievable
This entire gallery is f*****g disgusting. How can people live be like this and be ok with it?!
Pffft lot of these dont count they missing the unofficial final touch of disgusting rooms worldwide.... take out food boxes
My sister was like this growing up and now her place always looks like s**t, and she has kids. Just set their houses on fire and make them start over
Ok. This is so close to hoarding trash. I feel sorry for these people. I mean I am not the most organized person nor the tidiest but these people most likely suffer some form of depression or anxiety disorder. If they live in flats they are one step away from becoming hoarders who jeopardize their life and health as well as their neighbors' . I mean, in my building we have one such person people hate her and judge her I just feel sorry and wish she could sort it out. There is simply no procedure , no help for hoarders in my country. And they themselves usually refuse any kind of help.
As someone with depression, I can say that it’s really easy to let a room end up like this without help. There have been many times where I’ve been overwhelmed by my house after my depression symptoms lightened. I’m always too ashamed to ask for help because of the commentary I’d receive. Many of these comments are an EXCELLENT example of why people would have issues asking for help even though it’s obviously needed. I’m by no means saying it’s healthy or acceptable to live like this, just that compassionate comments are seriously lacking.
OK I think there are two levels of messy here there is the toys/clothes lazy person mess and there is the trash etc... hoarder mess... the hoarder mess is worse than anything else!
How can they move about in the room, and what's with the clothes on the floor? You have so much time now, to pick up, tidy away, etc. This is disgusting!
What disgusts me so much is that they sleep in these rooms!! They must NEVER change the bed linens! GROSSSSSS
We should go back to the days where everyone had 2 outfits, one for going out and one for home
It drives me nuts when my boys & SO leave stuff laying all over the place. Seeing this makes me feel much better about the effort I put into keeping the clutter to a minimum. It may not be perfect but at least it's not all of that up there!
When our daughters were about 7 & 9 or so, I got tired of trying to get their room decent, so I decided to let them live in it until they WANTED a neat room. It ended up in at least a foot of toys, candy bags with sticky partly-eaten candy, clothes ,etc etc. In the long run it made neatniks out of them both. In the short run, they spent 6 weeks with their beloved Nana in another state and I cleaned it up. Their babysitter brought his girlfriend over to see " the messiest room in the world" but he did NOT know about the cleanup. LOL
I mean, I just leave my clothes on my bed if I change during the day, if I go out, when I come back I leave my backpack on my bed as well and after supper as a rule (not from my parents) I kinda de-stress cleaning my room while listening to music and then I chill out. Obviously if we have guests over I will clean up before they come! But man these rooms are really bad! =O
I thought I was messy, I have piles of papers on my desk, the classic clothes on the chair thingy and a weird assortment of things in my drawers (hey at least you can't see them) but I went through half of these photos and I cannot continue, especially the kids. Parents, teach your kids PLEASEEEEEEEEEE.
I understand how a mess like this can be created. I was in a really bad place when I was with my ex and I lived like that and didn't realize how bad off I was until much later in life. I do sympathize but why would you reward someone for living like that when the new bed will just become part of the mess. I agree, the parents of those kids need to stop being a friend and be a parent and the adult 'contestants' need help
That's nothing, even seen Katie Prices "mucky mansion"? that's a shithole.
I'm frequently asked to photograph property by estate agents that make these look clean and organized! Usually the vendor says something like, "Just let me know if I need to move anything..." The worst room, though, was a bathroom decorated completely in jet black, with bare floorboards. Completely, totally, matt black, over every square inch... except it wasn't decorated. It was mold...
I'm a tidy person but I have at points gone through such awful periods of depression where I have given up. I would go to work and come home and just wish for sleep, never eat, never do cleaning, I would just shower enough so that I didn't smell going to work. I think this article is maybe a bit judgemental.
Not going to lie, when I was a young teenager, my room was similar (no food/actual trash) with clothes and random stuff everywhere all over the floor... But I grew up and it's no longer like that. This post gives me anxiety just looking at the mess. How can people live like this? My goodness.
I feel this in my soul. I'm a neat freak who color codes the closet and vacuums daily. My "quarantine" started in January preparing for them having major foot surgery. Eight months later my anxiety and depression are at an all time high and my room is a disaster. Which makes me anxious and depressed. Ugh the vicious cycle. Please send tots and pears
It LITERALLY takes 5 minutes to fold laundry & put it away, 2 mins max to bin things, 5 minutes to dust. There is no excuse for this level of disgusting laziness.
I don't like this at all. Especially with the parents submitting them for the kids who don't know what's going on with them, when I was a teenager my room only got messy when I was not in the mental state to clean it. I'll bet you at least a few of these people are depressed, and then the parents are going and submitting their room to this contest where total strangers just look at it and talk about how disgusting it is. Parents, if your kid has a really bad messy room like this, please check in with them. They could be just fine, but it's better safe than sorry with these things.
My room is very messy (#depressionsucks) but I do not eat nor drink in the room with the exception of a singular reusable water bottle. One day I'll do something about it.
Had an ex-flatmate who used to live like this. Her room would stink of rotten food. When I tried to talk to her about it, her response was "I just don't give a f**k". She'd clean it once every few months, when this woman came over for an hour. Turned out the woman was from Child Protection Services, and my flatmate lost her kids due to neglect abuse. (something she NEVER told me about).
Apart from the landlords, what sort of person admits to letting their home get into this sort of state?
They were giving out a new bed for the person with the messiest room.
Load More Replies...I know that in a lot of cases, when depression is the cause of the mess (and it's nigh on impossible to get the motivation to start cleaning), people can get stuck with this, but when it's your children and they are just lazy, the parents need to enforce rules more.
What because kids can't get depressed? I think that a fair number of these are depressed kids actually
Load More Replies...Show how materialistic people are . . . so much stuff they don't even take care of it. Considering that most of the stuff is disposable cups, wrappers and bottles, that's not really working here. Are parents not teaching kids to take care of their things so they can take care of the world? And yet organized people are ridiculed. Priorities are all screwed up . . .
