Step aside, flower crowns, your time has passed. Mermaid crowns are all the rage now!
Chelsea Shiels, a 27-year-old Melbourne-based florist, had been making flower crowns until she stumbled upon the idea of seashell crowns… “I’ve always wanted to be Ariel, under the sea. I’m a real beach bum. That was where my obsession with the sea and shells came from”, Shiels told Cosmopolitan. For a couple years, Shiels kept the mermaid crowns a private hobby, but when the mermaid trend started to kick in, her confidence grew. Just last year the 27-year-old finally revealed her dazzling mermaid crowns and the world loves them! From festivals to themed parties to photo shoots – they’re the perfect accessory to make you feel like a true mermaid wherever you are! You can buy these one-of-a-kind crowns from her Etsy shop.

Share on FacebookSome people lost their grip on reality! Saying that building shell crowns is not environmentally friendly is the stupidest thing I ever heard so far. She's from Australia, an island-continent bigger than Europe... with LOTS of shoreline. She's selling a few hundreds crowns yearly, which amounts to maybe 1000-2000 shells max. Her ecologycal impact is as big as you drinking a can of soda every week or so. Stop showering, stop eating meat, stop using plastic bottles, stop leaving your PC on when you're not at home, don't even think of turning that AC on that summer... if you really want to criticise a girl and her eco impact of using a few shells. Morons!
I did some "FACT checking" and this lady does NOTHING to harm any living creatures inside those shells. As matter of fact, - "To make her mermaid crowns, Shiels uses seashells that she sources from places that have an excess of shells on beaches; she works with suppliers in Australia, India, and Hawaii."

Apparently, emojis become "????" on BP, lesson learned.

I have made crowns like these and have to say my only problem is that they are heavy and want to slide down. Not sure exactly the best way to rectify that but they do look stunning.

My shop also makes these headbands, but my shells come from the beach an hour away from my home, and are just as beautiful! If you live in the US and want to have a lower shipping charge than having it come from Australia, give my shop a look! This piece is sold, but I have others, and more on the way! I also will do commissioned work, which this shop does not. Come on by! www.etsy.com/shop/mermaidsanctuary 13633402_1...ea7cb0.jpg
Wow that's real shady, selling yourself on someone else's article. And downtalking what she doesn't do, come on are you that desperate Judy?!

Collecting shells becomes a livelihood and that leads to killing an animal - One collector told Smithsonian magazine that the best way to get the animal out of a shell is to toss it in the microwave. Once again Vanity over Sanity! Even if these shells were 'washed up' 'empty' on a beach, most of us know these are future homes for a variety of crabs and crustaceans and other marine life. Many countries now fine travelers for returning home with such 'Treasure' in their bags. When things turn into a trend, god knows what the selfie mob will do to the worlds beaches now!!
stfu theres plenty of shells in the world, youve obviously never been to a beach.

Check your facts before spreading rumors... "To make her mermaid crowns, Shiels uses seashells that she sources from places that have an excess of shells on beaches; she works with suppliers in Australia, India, and Hawaii."
