Women Wish There Was Old Spice Women’s Deodorant, Come Up With A Name, And Old Spice Deliver
Interview With AuthorThere is a debate going on over whether there is a difference between men’s and women’s hygiene products or not and why oftentimes, products targeted to women are more expensive. Also, we all have probably noticed that men’s and women’s products have their distinctive smells, in the sense that we can tell just from the smell if it’s meant for women or men.
Twitter user @radtoria pointed this out, because she got tired of the fragrances of women’s deodorant. After ranting about it online, she was contacted by the deodorant brand Old Spice and they offered to send her some of their products.

Twitter user rants online that she’s tired of women’s deodorant fragrances and catches the attention of the deodorant brand Old Spice

@radtoria, also known as Victoria, is a full-time student at University of Washington so she spends most of her time studying. Also, Victoria told Bored Panda that a lot of her time is also spent with her partner, 2 kids and playing pinball.
A little more than 2 years ago, she tweeted her wish that Old Spice would make deodorant for women too, because she was fed up with weird fragrances like baby powder or gentle breeze.
She expressed her wish to smell like she is not to be played with rather than like a diaper. And you can’t argue with that.

We asked Victoria what were some of her favorite responses and reactions to this thread and her answer was, “My favorite responses (and I still continue to receive these years later!) are from the people who take the whole thread seriously and actually believe women aren’t allowed to buy men’s hygiene products in my home state. They range from sweetly gullible to totally outraged.”
Apparently, people didn’t see the issue and advised Victoria to just buy the deodorant she wants and that provoked a sarcastic tweet from her saying that it is actually illegal for women to buy men’s products in Washington state.
What was meant to be a funny tweet, at the same time pointing out the stereotypes of what women and men should smell like, became something nobody was expecting.
Old Spice said that they wanted to send Ghost Mom ‘something special’ and she didn’t know what to expect: a cease and desist letter or the ‘Eagle Fang’ deodorant

Most people were putting their money on the deodorant and they were absolutely right

A couple of weeks passed by after the last tweet in the thread and a new one was added. Turns out, Victoria got a message from Old Spice. They said, “Hey Ghost Mom, We’d like to send you something special!”
Victoria told us that when she got time to tweet, a good amount of her tweets would go viral, so it wasn’t a new thing, however, she said, “I definitely never expected Old Spice to reach out to me directly.” When asked if she didn’t feel suspicious about a company asking her for address, she answered that she felt safe, because the account was verified.
The company didn’t mention what that ‘something special’ could be, so it seemed that Victoria thought there was a possibility she was in trouble, because she put up a poll with two options: that they were going to send a cease and desist letter or the ‘Eagle Fang’ deodorant which she invented in her original tweet. Most people were convinced that it was the latter and they were right!
Victoria was very happy after receiving the gifts and the brand even sent her a T-shirt with their logo

Old Spice personalized their packaging and put on the name Victoria made up

The package included not only deodorant, but some merchandise too. The deodorant was personalized by making a modification of their existing deodorant ‘Hawkridge’s’ label. The name ‘Eagle Fangs’ was put on and the birds had fangs next to their beaks. Victoria gets a lot of questions, how the deodorant smelled like and she told us that it was fruit-puch scented. The lucky lady still likes how Old Spice deodorants smell, but since then she switched to cruelty-free brands.
They even thought about small details, like putting fangs on the eagles’ beaks to match the name
Old Spice promised the deodorant would be a permanent product if the tweet would get enough likes
Old Spice promised to make ‘Eagle Fangs’ real if their tweet got 1,789,456 likes; however, the tweet was posted almost two years ago and it is sitting with 1.5k likes, so probably the new deodorant isn’t coming any time soon.
But it is likely that ‘Eagle Fangs’ would be a profitable product because other women agreed that they like men’s deodorant more and were convinced that it works better too.
People in the comments agreed that women’s deodorant just isn’t it

Load More Replies...I love the smell of old spice because my father wore it religiously and has since passed away. Every time I smell it I am reminded of dad.
My daddy wore it. He died when I was 10 and the smell still reminds me of him and feeling safe. I like quite a few men's fragrances but old spice is total retro gold.
Load More Replies...If Old Spice works better, maybe I should since that since my "water lily" deodorant doesn't work very well. It is really cool old spice did that for her.
I've used old spice for years as women's deodorant doesn't last the day
Load More Replies...Odd? No. I hate it though, and would love to see more woodsy/musky/spicy scents marketed to women like me. I'd also love some body powder at a reasonable price that doesn't have that signature "baby" scent; after some searching, I found some with a neutral scent but $$$.
Load More Replies...I love it when companies take things like this and play along. A company with social media and a sense of humor is priceless!
The marketing value is priceless too, it’s a win for all sides.
Load More Replies...I'm a woman and I buy the Old Spice one that smells like trees. Fick the haters. So what if its marketed to men. Does it have to cost 15% more and come in pink before you'll buy it?
I use the Mitchum Clean Control Scent in the invisible solid and I've been using it for over 20+ years and it is the ONLY Deodorant that works for me and I love the smell and have no qualms tell anyone who asks me what deodorant I use or why I smell so good. Men get the best smelling things while women are sold these powder smelling, overbearing, headache giving, doesn't work all that well products. No shame in my game buying My Men's Deodorant!!
Load More Replies...It's ridiculous that scents have a gender assignment. Why can't men smell like lillies, and why can't women smell like Eagle Fangs?
It is. I hope that our society slowly moves to a more genderless one. But i honestly doubt so.
Load More Replies...My daughter has worn Old Spice Deodorant & used the matching body wash since she was old enough to need deodorant. Of course, since we're both single atm, guests are endlessly wondering why we have Old Spice products on the shelf in the bathroom. We get comments like "Okay who are you hiding?"
Men's everything is better and lasts longer. Men's clothes and shoes last longer. And those briefs when you HAVE to wear any kind of pad, keeps it in place better than any women's panties
Personally I’d like something in between. I too am tired of this baby powder gentle breeze crap but I’d rather not go with the strong spice scent. My favorite perfume comes with a lotion product- why can’t they make a deodorant in common perfume scents too?
Been using williams ice blue all my life since i used my dads... I.m 56 sexy woman!
i've been buying men's deodorant since i was 16 or so, i'm 35 now.. still not Eaglefangs cool though :D
Notes: Women's Deodorant (Floofy) Doesn't work well and more expensive. WOMEN"S Everything is more expensive and usually sub-par quality. . How about they just make different fragrance and drop the labeling, quality and cost across the board. In fact how about they do that for everything. Just sayin...
Yes, it is called "the pink tax". Rep. Katie Porter, well known for explaining things with her whiteboard has been taking CEOs of companies who market products for women to task for this. You can find videos on YouTube of her doing this & the men of the 'female products' being left speechless when she is done. She is a joy to watch with her math skills. Single Mom she has struggled and knows what it is like.
Load More Replies...I actually use Mitchum for Men 48hr Protection Invisible Solid in the Clean Control Scented or Curve Scented. It is the only Deodorant that actually works for me. I have tried the woman's one, works but not as well and yes I have tried every single other brand, to no avail. I also really dislike smelling like a woman that is in her 80's that over baby powered herself or over sprayed herself with her Perfume, you know what Perfume I am talking about Ladies. My only complaint is that Mitchum needs to come out with more Scents for the Men's Deodorant. The Clean Control is the only one that they have. I know I said the Curve Scent but that is put out only once and a great while. I'll take it though!!
I always use men's deodorant. I think that thank God I didn't forget my deodorant today would be awesome
Retired elementary teacher here. Awhile ago, a third grader gave me a hug and said, "You smell just like my grandma!" It was the baby powder scented deoderant.
I love Axe, Dark Temptation. Lasts long, and smells good on my skin. I don't even need perfume. But I've never tried any of those Old Spice variants; where I live I've only seen the classic one. I'd love to smell like trees somedays, for example. And Krakengard, Wolf smell, Eagle Fangs etc. sound great!!
I think this is great! I use Every Man Jack's sandalwood deodorant - not sure I'd want to use Old Spice and smell like my father!
I've always worn whatever appeals to me. I'm not about to let these industries, and their marketing departments tell me what I can, and cannot wear. I lean more towards the "masculine" scents.
Honestly that's the right way to live and be happy, it's good to wear what appeals....I must say you have beautiful smile Diana, where are you from ?
Load More Replies...I've been using Wolfthorn for ages. Love the smell + no white marks on black clothes.
Have to say, I don't think I've ever seen the Krakengard, or even Old Spice products here since the 70s. I would def buy something with that label on, for me or my partner, he would think it was very cool. Probably daughter would as well. Going to have to google it now. P.S. Krakengard isn't available in the UK, but Wolfsthorne is, so gonna try that one.
I honestly can't wear deodorant with any scent, because my skin is too sensitive
It's ILLEGAL for WOMEN to buy MALE PRODUCTS in WASHINGTON?!?!?!?!?!?!

I buy and use Old Spice Lavender and Mint soap. The smell lasts a while, it’s gentle on my skin, it helps moisturize and also so far my kids love it, too
I hate it when companies take advantage of the fact that women sometimes need more hygiene products than men and make all the women's hygiene stuff cost about $100 and last a week. WHEN I become president I will outlaw this business trick.

Here's the funny thing. I'm a man and always used deodorants made for women as I like the 'baby powder and light breezes' smell much more than the 'cheap cologne' effect of most deodorants made for men (including Old Spice, I'm afraid).
I have used the Old Spice Volcano for like 2 years now. I love how it smells and when I raise my arms and get a whiff.. mmmmhhmmm!!
I love the original Old Spice scent. My father wore it and my first husband did too. I use to watch my dad shave sometimes as a child. As the only girl, this was my time to be with dad. I miss him..
I love the smell of English Leather and Bay Rum. I don't know if the first is still made, but I think I'll look for the latter.
I worked in the restaurant industry for many years and all of us ladies wore old spice. More than any woman's brand, it kept us smelling and feeling fresh for far longer!
Well, I usually buy this brand for my hubs anyway, mine as well take advantage of those twofer sales Fred Meyer is always having and score some for myself.
Old Spice, my mothers father wore it and so did her brothers my uncles and then my Dad finally wore it, till brut came along and then British Sterlinfg, because he liked the big busted gal (used to drive my Mom nutz) but as he got older he went back to Old Spice. I wore that for many years but changed to English Leather Timberline until they f it up now back to Old Spice. I applaud Old Spice for taking this woman seriously and made something special for her. BRAVO OLD SPICE.
Also, I use my hubby's old spice, it DOES last longer, and because my chemistry is different from his, it smells differently on me! I love it! Wolf thorn, side I pick them, I can wear them!
I have always liked the smell of mens cologne much better than most women's cologne or perfume. Most perfume/cologne marked to women give me a headache. I love Bay Rum
‘Misread that as Ray Bum. Bay Rum sounds more appealing.
Load More Replies...I think companies should stop making gendered products all together... just make those products and let us decide for ourselves what we want to smell like. My father wore the original Old Spice products and I go for any deodorant (NOT anti-perspirant) that I like the smell of. Currently using a Eucalyptus-based deodorant that does not smell too strongly of the stuff: overpowering is not good. It would suit anyone, so long as they enjoy a slight herbal scent on themselves.
me(F) and my hubby use same dodorant, always old spice cause it is the best <3
I’ve been a fan of Nivea for men “dark wood” fragrance, I got heaps of compliments wearing it. I should buy it again.
I noticed that old spice is a ton cooler- my bro uses 'dragon's breath,' I use the unisex arm & hammer nonscented. the baby powder just doesn't work- and who wants to smell like baby butt? I haven't tried old spice, but i like my arm & hammer because I can also use perfume or scented shampoo and not worry about the scents mixing into something weird
I love smelling like baby powder or vanilla/cupcake. Those are my 2 signature scents, but Vanilla more. Then I get guys who randomly text me saying, "I was walking through the mall or wherever and got a whiff of cake and it brought me back to that night when we..." you get the picture. One boyfriend whose jacket I had borrowed, texted me that whenever he puts it on now, he thinks of me because it smells like a cupcake. I'M A CUPCAKE!
My grandma always used men's cologne. She didn't like what was in offer for women. I still recall the big bottle of cologne in her bathroom. Big, with the simplest packaging and labeling. She was ahead of her time.
I wear men's deodorant because I prefer the smell and think the smell lasts longer. Would 100% buy the new old spice deodorant
I say it's for my husband as I smell the deodorants an body washes, but it's totally so I smell like a bad ass. I even (shock!) buy men's colognes because f**k vanilla cinnamon virgin horse riding fields of flowers an pansy's. Versace men's Dylan blue btw. Mmmm
Edit. My father wore old spice in that white bottle whenever he an my mom would go out. Secretly swapped husbands fake Brut for it. He didn't care. It's a bottle of smelly stuff. But I like the smell even if my dad was a cockwad Ass clown.
Load More Replies...i hate the fragrances of women's deodorant. i don't want to smell like a baby or like food. a nice floral isn't too bad, but i like the gel deodorants and there's never a floral in that form. i'm tiny, so men's deodorant is too big for my underarms, i get it all over the sides. i wish more companies would make a nice smelling gel deodorant for chicks (finally found one by Mitchum)
I like something in between. Old Spice kinda stinks like men’s cheap cologne / vetiver. And baby powder smells like a dumb baby. I like a good patchouli or heady rose scent, or even something lemony. Schmidt’s makes the best deodorant and it doesn’t come gendered.
this is great. but if its illegal for a women to buy mens hygeine products couldnt she ask a guy to buy her some?
I've always had a thing for Old Spice, and normally would use it now, but for one reason. I no longer have any need for any kind of deodorant at all. I used a deodorant stone, and applied it enough that there are no longer any bacteria living on me. The chemistry of the deodorant stone is that once the bacteria is killed off, I no longer have any problem with any bodily oder at all. I highly recommend that you all get a deoderant stone and use it for some time. The odor will simply be gone. And just think of all the money, over time, that you will save. One thing to remember: hold the stone tightly as you get it wet and rub under your arm. If you don't, it will slip out of your hand and break as it hits the sink. Its very fragile, and replacing it will be your greatest cost. I've learned to hold it tightly, and haven't had one slip out of my hand for a long, long time. https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Deodorant-Stone-Crystal-Basket/dp/B000FVA6XU
I am a 60 year old lady who only wears Old Spice deodorant. All she is show is that she is a twit.
not available, they changed the name to hawkridge and took the fangs out of the eagle...
r/woosh!!! they said the deodorant was made specifically for her!! read the article before you hate on it

If this were true, I'd like for you to smell like freshly baked pastries instead of sandalwood and you'd prefer it I smelled like the inside of a new car instead of roses.

Its very fragile, and replacing it will be your greatest cost. I've learned to hold it tightly, and haven't had one slip out of my hand for a long, long time. https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Deodorant-Stone-Crystal-Basket/dp/B000FVA6XU

Are we all just gonna ignore the fact that it is funking illegal for a woman to buy male hygiene products in Washington?
If this were true, I'd like for you to smell like freshly baked pastries instead of sandalwood and you'd prefer it I smelled like the inside of a new car instead of roses.
