The first account of the "Meanwhile in" meme appeared sometime in February 2010. A flipped image of a Holden Commodore (a very common Australian-made sedan) with the caption "Meanwhile in Australia" appeared on 4chan via /b/ board. The image alluded to the age-old joke that everything in Australia is "upside-down" (due to its southern hemisphere location), and the new meme quickly went viral across imageboard sites, blog networks and aggregator services. Since then, multiple variations with other countries and their stereotypes have been posted.

This ad doesn't tell you to accept abusive action, it says to mind your own business when others are minding their own. Peeking at you in a bathroom stall is an abusive action.

Folks, this is not about men in ladies bathrooms. It's about gender equality. So people who don't feel like they belong to the one sex or the other or who don't look rather male or female can use the bathroom as anyone else. Which means without being offended by "concerned" people or without people gaping at them. It's just about tolerance so calm down everyone.

After reading the comments, I kind of realize there might be a slight issue in understanding all of this. Unisex bathrooms would be great for those who would want to use it, but I think it's the fear of getting rid of segregated bathrooms that's the issue. Personally I would prefer to use a women's only bathroom, but I don't care if someone else prefers to use the unisex bathrooms. It's a matter of choice that should be there for us to choose. There are both men and women who are uncomfortable to do their business side by side with the opposite sex due to a number of reasons. I think establishing unisex bathrooms, but also keeping our regular segregated ones would be the best solution for everyone. Let's take a man or a woman who have been sexually assaulted by the opposite sex. I don't think using a unisex bathroom, where a person is doing an intimate thing, is going to make them comfortable.

I have been mistaken for a man in a washroom before. It was wintertime in the Northeast US. I was lucky that I was identified as "human" under all of my gear.
I'm sorry, but I can't make exceptions. We live in a world where people use this to their advantage. I wish people can mind their business, but there are idiots who will "stereo-typically" dress as a "woman" to enter a woman's only bathroom simply for their own sick pleasure. I want to be able to live in a world where one's "sex" does not matter (in certain cases), but this is not true in reality, and sadly we need to address it in a safer manner. The whole "mind your business" motto is still yet a dream because their are others who abuse it. "Don't worry about it. They know where they belong," is great, but without regulations there will be consequences. Until understanding between one another is universal, the type of mindset above is not going to work. It's why we have a government instead of an anarchy. Complete freedom may seem great, but in reality it can be a very thin line to absolute chaos. I hope we can get as close as possible to the above, but right now it's too lenient.

Thank you thank you thank you!! My mind has been blown by how this communication is missed. I ran into a man in the ladies room, a long time ago. He was dressed like a woman and for a small fraction of a second my mind thought, "Hey, that's a dude." My next thought was, "Well, where the hell else is he going to go? He won't be comfortable in the other room." And I continued exiting the room and hoped I hadn't glanced at him too long and made him uncomfortable. Sensible people can recognize this. Legislation on this subject favors predators. And to those calling out the woman who saw a man in the restroom who was looking over the stall: Obviously it would be a problem if a female was doing this. The point isn't the gender of the person in that 1 instance but that 100% of the (obvious) men she encountered in the ladies' room were threatening. She didn't include the # of threatening women. I am guessing it lower than that. Btw, assault is illegal no matter what gender or restroom.
