People Can’t Believe This Apartment Is Only 22 Square Meters (236 Sq. ft) After Seeing These Pics
Urbanization is increasing rapidly, as more and more people flock to big cities from rural areas to find better opportunities for themselves. This is putting a lot of pressure on housing, and people are finding themselves cramped into tiny apartments as prices go up.
A Little Design, an interior design team from Taipei City in Taiwan, have come up with a brilliant example of maximizing small spaces in a 22sq.m (236ft. sq) apartment. Taking their cues from their client, who travels abroad a lot for work and needs only a good sleep and a hot bath at home, they prioritized things like a mezzanine floor for a bed and desk, and clever use of empty space by making it flexible for different needs.
Every inch of the living quarters in the tiny home has been considered, and the white and oak color scheme makes the interior feel bright and spacious. I would certainly love to live in a small apartment like this! This kind of smart, space-conscious design is only becoming more relevant in today’s mega-cities, and this provides a practical example of what can be possible.

Urbanization means that living spaces in cities are becoming increasingly cramped
However, ‘A Little Design’ made sure that every inch of space is maximized when they worked on this 22sq.m (236ft. sq) apartment
Taiwan-based design team included floor to ceiling storage
So there are no spaces wasted
A mezzanine creates more usable space upstairs
Here’s how it looks from above
A ladder gives a trendy and practical touch
Giving access to the bookshelves that the client insisted should be a feature
The client works abroad a lot so only really needs a good sleep
Looks cozy!
Everything is withing reach distance when laying on the bed
The apartment has a fully functioning kitchen, they even fit in a washing machine
Limited space calls for innovative decisions, so they had to play around with the tables
They can be re-arranged into various positions
Client likes to take hot baths and the design team managed to fit one in
These are the floor plans
Awesome concept but damn is that tight living quarters, I swear if you have a guest over, you let one fart slip and you will be able to smell it through out that whole place with no where to run.
"I"m sorry, this space just isn't going to work for me. I was wondering if you had something more fart-friendly?"
Load More Replies...Anyone else is concern about getting drunk and falling off the bedroom?
I think if you're drunk enough you won't even be able to climb the stairs :)
Load More Replies...Am I the only one who spent several minutes trying to figure out why they had a wall separating two bathtubs? With a window in it? And a sink on both sides? And... two toilets?? Wait, that must be.... oh. Yup. Wall length mirror. *embarassed laugh*
Presentation is done very well, but there are a things that bother me. Entrance/kitchen: Seems unusual to ave an entrance door that opens outwards. Never seen in my country. Space for shoes and jacket is missing, just walk aout of the rain straight into the kitchen. Small kitchens can be awesome, though I would try to find a fume extractor solution. I prefer the first kitchen (stove not beside the wardrope). Laundry machine OK if it is a washer-dryer, otherwise laundry rack in the living room all day and night. Bathroom: 22m² and they chose a bathtub. Luxury, but nice to have one. No shower curtain, no hanger for wet towels (both easy to add), I'd also prefer a DRY place for toilet paper. Not sure about the window that leads from the tub to the living room. Living room: Area beside sofa accessible only from above (top plate to be removed, only lightweight stuff or seldom-used stuff), otherwise wasted space. Tiny table is simply awful. Even IKEA sells better solutions.
Which country is that? Here in Finland front doors usually open outwards.
Load More Replies...This subject is kinda old. I've already seen it few years ago... However, the idea is brillant. In most asian countries, the square meter is very expensive.
What about round or rectangular meters that aren't square? :)
Load More Replies...Don't have more than one cat either, there's nowhere to put a litter box.
Load More Replies...I definitely coul not live in a place like this. Our apartment is not that big, but it's better than this tiny home. One of the things that bother me most is that the entrance leads straight into the kitchen and there is no separate space for shoes. It's disgusting to me to walk in with your dirty shoes right into the area where you prepare your food. If would be better if the kitchen and the wardrobe switched places.
Where I live, there have to be at least 2 doors between toilet and kitchen for hygienic purposes.
I would adore living in this tiny home! Just for me though, not anyone else. That would just get annoying in such a small space.
Целых 22 метра! А вот если у вас квартира 8 квадратных метров https://varlamov.ru/2126756.html As much as 22 meters! But if you have an apartment of 8 square meters https://varlamov.ru/2126756.html
This doesn't seem particularly small, just nicely done. I've rarely lived anywhere bigger!
What s the floor to ceiling height? Is there a layout plan with dimensions? I would love to replicate this to my studio unit, please help me to accomplish that. THanks.
What is the ceiling height? can you share the layout plan with dimensions, i would want to replicate to my studio unit . Thanks
Incredibly clever designs there but that is Not very small at all compared to some ancient UK cottages! 😊
Honey I want this apartment so bad
thank you very much for sharing...... million thanks for the designer/architect/construction team........ simple & best design seen ever in my life for an apartment in such a small area....... will try to replicate it as much as possible.........
I'm sorry, I just moved out of a 600 sq. ft. apartment. These might be ok for students or temporary homes, I don't think it's health to live in such a small place
like people living in such small apartments have any other choice.
Load More Replies...I am fascinated by tiny living spaces. I can see why a person would choose one. An entire community could be built using them for personal space around shops, a gym, a library, a movie theater etc. I believe it would improve social and mental health.
Brilliant! I Love, love this design. One has to be minimalist to live in a space like this though.
I used to live in a 150 sqft apartment, so yes I can believe that this one is 250+ sqft. However, the tiny a*s apartments out here usually are not that generous with the ceiling space. In that 150 apartment I would be like 5-6 inches away from the ceiling fan when I stood under it..... no way for a loft unless I liked crawling.
The the floor-to-ceiling mirror is opposite the toilet? Well that’d be nice checking yourself out while sitting there doing your business (I don’t want to see my face when I poop)
Also, I wouldve made a cabinet underneath the bathroom sink. Where do you keep your dry/used towels now?
Load More Replies...I would like it with two big changes. Take out the tank water heater, move the washer/dryer into that space and hang an instant/tankless hot water above it. Then put a full size refrigerator in the kitchen where the washer/dryer took up space. I would also like some kind of bars to the ceiling on the half wall next to the bed!
We need more spaces like this in a market of McMansions & overpriced everything! It's gotten so you cannot afford to even rent a dump. This proves small, efficient, and affordable spaces are the future. Now if someone would start building them...
Perfect for a wannabe hermit who doesn't want to do the traditional damp cave route. ( Me.)
So, anyone else notice this "article" was clearly nothing more than an advertisement.
The tiny home movement has been around for a while, so while it looks nice, it isn't a new concept. Plus, they seem to have forgotten a stove. And a fridge that could fit more than an apple...
Moving to America drove me crazy because, in America, you get four walls, a floor, and a ceiling to make up the room, except I was used to situations like the one above where you get built in compartments in every wall and the floor. Not this go to IKEA to buy a big shelf and now you don't have space left in the room.
I feel like I'd be bumping my head into everything all day long... Other than that, it's not bad at all.
What is the hight? This is average area fo garsoniere so nothing special.
Single, celibate, short people only!! That tatami takes the Chill right out of Netflix and Chill. So, no couch snuggles, head on up to the bedroom and have some very mellow missionary. Cause no matter who gets on their knees, your head's gonna hit the celling. 0/10 Nobody gets laid here.
Plenty of space for a living room orgy, tatami is just practical for that (easy to clean)
Load More Replies...I love it, I'd live in a place like this if they existed in Canada, Winnipeg city
@Ellen: It may be a combo unit, like they are putting in some of the newer RV's.
Load More Replies...This apartment has pretty high end finishes but this is one solution to the housing crisis in large cities in the US ... small, simple, and smartly designed accommodations. I went back to see what the exterior views were but they were non-existent. For me, outdoor views and space is just as important as the indoors.
What I want to live in. Simple, low impact and I bet complete utilities are well below $50 per month.
I could totally live in this apartment happily. I'm rather minimalist, so it would be perfect.
This makes me all the more happy to live in a city where I can rent an 810 sq ft, 1 bedroom apartment.
And that's why I will never live in a place where space is at that much of a premium. This claustrophobe wouldn't make it for one night in a place like that. My husband also travels on business four to five days a week, but he values his private spaces and the natural light our house has. He'd NEVER go for something like that.
No one else is concerned about the fact, that you have to get to the bathroom through the window above the bath (from the stairs)?
