Imagine you and your partner have been trying for a baby for two years, and you finally get the news. You are going to have a beautiful baby boy. The excitement and anticipation must be off the charts! This was the case for 29-year-old Chris Urena and his wife recently, and so it was time to celebrate with a pregnancy photoshoot.

However, Chris’s wife wasn’t too fond of the idea. So, Chris decided to go for it himself, being a man of, let’s say, generous proportions.

“It was funny how it came about. I’m a photographer myself and I try and take as many pictures as I can, but my wife doesn’t really like being in pictures,” Chris told Unilad. “When I mentioned doing a maternity shoot, she said she didn’t really want to do anything too revealing, and she didn’t really want to do it, and I kept asking her. So I started talking to my other photographer friends and decided ‘you know what, let’s just do it with me.”

What started out as a joke quickly began to spread, as the idea got shared around Facebook among Chris’s friends. Then he knew, it had to happen. “I was excited. I’ve done lots of maternity shoots with women and wedding photos, so being on the other side was hilarious. My friends made it so much more fun, they kept picking up on my ‘sultry eyes’ and most of them couldn’t keep their composure on set, so there were a lot of laughs.”

“I did it for my wife, but I did it because I’m really excited. Me and my wife have been trying to have a baby for two years, it’s been negative after negative after negative, and then one day I found out she’s pregnant, and I am just elated.”

After a series of similar images making a splash recently, it seems that the ‘man-ternity’ photoshoot is becoming quite a trend. And why not? It’s a fun, memorable way to commemorate a beautiful occasion, and it’s getting bigger guys out there, feeling good about themselves. Plus it’s hilarious to look at!
