This Woman Creates Dystopian Face Masks That May Work With Face ID During Viral Epidemics

Face masks have become part of our daily routines amidst the panic caused by the novel coronavirus. To protect their health, people are putting on respirators which are getting predominantly hard to get, as the supplies are diminishing. With the increase in the prevalence of these medical masks, some people are trying to find ways to make them more practical. One of the issues some people face while wearing these masks is the inability to use the face recognition feature on their smartphones. The problem prompted a San Francisco-based artist Danielle Baskin to find a solution. “Just print your face on it,” she suggests.

Recently the designer posted a tweet announcing her new service which allows you to print your face on an N95 mask in order to protect yourself from an epidemic and be able to use photo ID at the same time.

As it says on Baskin’s website these masks “work with facial recognition software,” and can help you unlock your phone without taking off the mask.

However, these custom face masks are still in development and it’s not proven yet if they will actually work. Clearly, it’s not the most serious design.

As Baskin writes on her website: “Is this a joke? Yes. No. We’re not sure. Viruses are not a joke. Wash your hands when you can. And get vaccines when you can. ”

With Face ID compatibility of not, these cool face masks could still be quite useful. The designer listed some of the ways it could be used, one of them being the benefit of your friends recognizing you when you’re wearing the mask.

Yaa those dont work, you need something that has filters attached. All those doctors masks you see Asians wearing only keep their germs from spreading.

Yeah, face masks don't prevent a healthy person from being exposed. But they do prevent asymptomatic, communicable people from spreading a disease they don't know they have.
