And in some more extreme cases, it gets passive-aggressive, to say the least.
The corner of Reddit known by the name which screams sarcasm, Thanks Management, is a safe space to talk about hard things. According to the subreddit’s description, it’s a place made for “Showcasing notices from imperious middle managers, owners, landlords, school administrators, mean bosses, and overall pedants. Bonus points for misspellings, exclamation marks, threats over petty bullshit.”
And they mean it. From evil posters put up in the staff room as if nothing happened to the implementation of very questionable tools that are supposed to boost productivity at the expense of people, these are some take-notes-kids examples of how not to run your business.

Rudeness can manifest in many forms, from passive-aggressive behavior, micromanaging, anger management problems, to favoritism towards one person, bullying, and many more. The mean behavior can also be used as a way to display one’s power and show superiority over others, and in this case, as well as others, you'd better run far away from it.
In such cases, setting boundaries is key. Everyone should learn to distance themselves from a manager who’s mean to them and, at some point, stop taking in all the negativity. In other cases, if you are sure that your boss is incompetent, it’s just reasonable to become a leader on your own.
Management will notice your initiative eventually, and you will likely earn some extra points just by keeping the mean person out of the loop.

Seriously, that begs the question: why 3 am? Did the boss forget to ask the day before and suddenly remembered at 3 am? Did someone call the boss at 2:55 am to say, "I can't come in"? Did a client in Australia need something for their next day?

If a person was in an "On Call" status this would be fine. Otherwise not.
That was my first thought as well. It will could be that he/she was an airline worker with paid "stand-by" role and then it is a perfectly sound reason for firing. Obviously, if this was just a regular job, then it is just unacceptable.
Load More Replies...30 years ago, I was working in a tanning salon. My supervisor called me at 1:30 am at Sunday night and told me ... obviously drunk ... I had to do her next shift (10 am to 5 pm), because she felt "sick". I told her to take an aspirin and drink plenty of water before bed ... then her hangover might not be that bad. Then I muted my phone and slept until noon ... she had called 23 times ( ! ) and then left a really rude message, basically saying, she was going get me fired. I let my boss hear what kind message she left me, while she was really drunk. I was not fired ... and she received a written warning.

That was like my old general manager , he used to text the whole entire staff (40+) the weekly rota at about 2 am on the Monday and wonder why it was only the management team that turned up. there was a celebration the day he left and I was allowed to finally do a monthly rota and take staffs availability into consideration

It’s just not fair to allow yourself to be treated badly and purposefully disrespected day by day by someone who has no reason to do so.
